0 customer service

I don’t even know where to start. The customer service is the worst I have ever seen. They don’t answer phone calls, return calls from voicemails and most times won’t even respond to emails if they do it is weeks or months after you send an email. Our warranty guy has either blocked my number or has his phone off 100% of the time and his voicemail box is full so you can’t even leave a message. We have lived in our house for 19 months now. The poor quality of materials are already degrading in this time. They chose to use flat paint on our interior walls even though it says eggshell in our contract. If you so much as brush your leg again ya the wall it leaves a mark not to mention the majority of the walls are 1 coat of very watered down paint. Most walls are see through and the paint is actually falling off the walls in some places. Of course excel won’t do anything to rectify those problems. On the outside trim the paint is cracking and also on very thin. We had multiple issues to be fixed after our 1 year warranty walk through. This was done in February it is now September and we are still waiting for trades to show up and some of the fixes can’t be done in cold weather so once again we have ran out of time to get things fixed. I have wrote multiple emails
To customer support about this and they won’t even return my email now. The sad part is the house next to us was built this year through a different builder. They did some damage to our front yard landscaping I emailed their customer support and got a response in 20 min and they were at my house the very next day to fix the damage they didn’t receive any money from me and they still responded that fast. That is how customer service should be especially after the largest investment of your lifetime. I will never recommend excel to anyone I know. It has been a stressful and painful experience.

Duplex homes

I am from Calgary NW-If you upgraded your basement ceiling with excel homes check your ceiling height as soon as Possible. I paid 2649+Gst to upgrade my basement ceiling from 8 feet to 9 feet but they make my basement ceiling 8 Feet 8 inch even though i don't know until i brought another basement development company, Actually they try to rip you off. which is unfix-able defects I think they did that intentionally even though they don't want to give your upgrade money back... Please never ever go with this builder also their customer service is worst in the world. They don't follow rules and regulation.

VERY POOR WORKMANSHIP AND TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

I have had the worst experience with Excel Homes and will never recommend this poorly managed company to anyone! Their poor workmanship is unimaginable and a nightmare to live with, they have provided terrible and unacceptable customer service experience as every person I have dealt with in this organization somehow managed to ignore me and my concerns! The worst of it all is when they come to fix a deficiency they will simply damage other components and can not even fix the initial issue! Very frustrating process, given that this is the biggest investment of my life! They have made the process of owning a new home nothing but stressful combined with lots of uncertainty and anxiety.
I will be providing public reviews on multiple websites including the better business bureau later on as I feel if I do now they will start to treat me differently and as the result ignore all of my concerns all together!

Within a few hours of possession I found more than 30 different deficiencies and defects, and that does not include the paint touch up that is required through various spots all over the house! The whole house needs to get repainted because so far I have found at least 50 different spot on the walls that requires touch up or has thin paint! I noticed some of the exterior issues 2 weeks prior to possession date so accordingly I sent an email to the construction manager and the sales manager but they both ignored my email and none of the deficiencies were fixed prior to taking possession! The quality control representative who did my possession date presentation did not even do a walkthrough with me to give me the opportunity to inspect the home and find those deficiencies with him! When I asked him if we should do the walkthrough, he simply said "it is not required!" On the possession date they presented me with a dirty house full of stains, residue and dust! I asked them multiple times to clean it but they just kept making empty promises and it was never cleaned in the end! I called the customer experience manager on June 26 and addressed my concerns to her via voicemail but she just ignored my message as well! I took possession of this home on June 22 and up to today's date(July 30) no deficiencies have been fixed and I still have not been able to move in! They have now attempted to fix some of the exterior defects but not only they did not fix those issues but have damaged other components! I am very frustrated and feel like I have thrown away my hard earned money building with Excel on my first home!

I have been beyond stressed and frustrated throughout this process, at the same time I have been carrying a sense of uncertainty to what will happen with my new built home which has many different defects and deficiencies as Excel has not been accommodating at all! They have very, very, I insist very poor workmanship! No sense of customer service and are keen on making empty promises and excuses for their wrongdoings! Avoid building with Excel homes at all costs!

Once They Have Your Money They Don't Care

We bought out home in 2018 and have yet to have our contract completed. We signed to have sod laid within a year and are waiting to this date. Our house overall is just very cheaply done and does not stand the test of time. It looked very nice when we took possession which is why I gave one star but after we moved in it looked like we had been there for years. Even a brush against a wall will take away paint and create dents. We have been told false truths a number of times on when they would come to finish their job but it never happens. I would not recommend this company. Once they have your money and signature you are the bottom of their list and they do not care if they complete what was originally agreed on. It has been a very disheartening process to build our first home and have been yanked around so much by a big company that is only out there to make money. I would not recommend Excel to anyone looking to build, there are many companies who put more care into their work and their customer service. The homes from others may be slightly more expensive but the headache of Excel is not worth it!

Garage floor

The garage floor was built incorrectly as it was the lowest pad compare to my neighbours. It gets flooded in the winter and rainy days. Floor is like 2-3 inches below the back alley. Been in contact with the rep for 2 years now but they only did was a 1mm concrete top up as the left side corner has sunk. Rain water seeps into the retaining wall joint and pool inside the garage. They said the City grade is too high. The City said the floor is built to low. They are pointing fingers. Wanted to bring the issue to the Excel homes CEO or President but people in customer care and reps filters the issues and does not want to let their bosses know about it. What a nightmare! I don’t recommend this builder.

Service or lack there of

We took possession the end of December and were told as it’s winter excel will not be pouring our driveway as it would not be covered under there warranty, however as we are in the middle of June and still do not have a driveway my wife and I are extremely unhappy, every attempt to find out when the driveway will be poured has been ignored. This is only our most recent issue, the house in general was thrown together by terrible trades. Large spots on the walls that were not painted, paint of floors, carpet and windows. The carpet is lifting all over the house and it was not measured correctly on stairs. The floor boards are separating along with a number of other problems.

Poor construction quality and after possession service

Bought our new home from Excel homes in Walden, Calgary. It’s been 5 months (got possession in Nov 2019) and our garage floor and driveway already have huge cracks going all across the length and breadth. I am assuming the ongoing Excel Homes construction next door has caused this due to poor construction quality. I immediately complained this to excel but their response is that it’s normal even though 99/100 driveways in the Walden area have no cracks. The other 2 things you will frequently hear from them is that every home in different and it’s home owner damage. I am fed up of hearing this and would take immediate pictures and show them as it’s happening. But they won’t own this at all. I am attaching all pictures here showing the level of damage in 5 months and pictures of ongoing Excel Homes construction next door. Judge for yourself but would not recommend that you choose them for your next home building project.

Product

The sales people were great, but once they had our money things started going downhill. Firstly, during our walkthrough before possession, there was serious oil panning in one of our bedrooms.. it was loud. The man said they wouldn't do anything about it because it was legal essentially. I did bring this up with warranty and they agreed it was actually pretty bad and fixed it. Next, a tile was chipped and they tried covering it up by filling the hole with a glue type substance. I only found it because the substance popped out when i was putting a sealant on it. Then the front step kept sinking and they tried blaming us for it. And it turns out they forgot to put a cement column on one side to hold it up right. Because of this, our wooden stairs detached from the porch... this they didn't replace or fix.. even though there is now cement all over them from when they fixed the step. They also didn't replace the grass they promised to replace after tearing it up to fix the step, and left a large broken wooden spike in the ground that we worked to pull out after it was apparent they weren't coming back. Also.. our cement walkway is deteriorating and we have only lived here for a year and a half. In regards to the wooden stairs and our grass.. we called weekly and sent numerous emails with no response from them. Now we are past the warranty period and I think they have just been ignoring us this whole time. The house and layout is very nice, but when we upgrade our home in the future.. I doubt we would buy from Excel again. Very disappointed in them.
