Living room furniture

I ordered a sofa, matching chair, ottoman and dining chairs in Sept 2010. I was told at the time that the sofa, matching chair and ottoman were made by a Quebec manufacturer and the dining chairs were made by a different Quebec manufacturer. I try to buy Canadian products as much as possible so even through there were some other sofas and chairs that I saw at other places cheaper and I like the design better, I decided to order the ones from Decorium because they were Canadian. Big mistake!
I was told that it would take 8 - 12 weeks to recieved them because they have to be made. So that was fine, other places have similar lead times.
I did receive the sofa and dining room chairs the end of November, but to my surprise, when they were deliverd the box of the dining room chairs clearly stated MADE IN CHINA. I was horrified but I had already paid for them for I accepted them.
I called to see when the matching chair and ottoman would be delivered. This began my epic adventure because every week I was assured that I would have them the following week. I had arranged to Friday Dec 17 off work for the delivery but on Dec 15, I was told by the salesperson Nuno, that he had just received notice that the company had just send a notice that they had run out of material and had to order some more in so it would be delayed until the first week of Jan.
I asked him why they were just informing him now and he stated that is what furniture manufacturers are like but I told him that there should have been someone at Decorium who follows up on these things to ensure that shipments are deliveries are scheduled properly. Needless to say I was very upset because I got rid of my old furniture because I was told that it was coming the first week in Dec. So because of this I had to cancel by Christmas and New Years entertaining because I did not have enough chairs for guests to sit on.
I still didn't know that this was just the beginning of my frustation with Decorium. In Jan I had to call every week at least a couple times a week to get an update on the delivery. Every time Nuno would tell me that it was leaving the factory that week and to expect it the following week. I asked how long does it take to ship it from Quebec and eventually he told me that it was coming from Michigan. I couldn't believe it because it obliviously not told me the truth about where it was made as well.
I spoke to Louis, the sales manager and he was just as useless as Nuno, but he was also very nasty and certainly should not be a sales manager. In any other company he would be fired! I also spoke to Georgie, the General Manager who was at least nicer and promised to call me as soon as it came in, but I did not hear from him any longer. I also told him how Nuno was not truthful to me about the country where both the sofa and dining chairs were made, but he did not seem to care at all about that.
I did not get my chair and ottoman until the end of Feb, that was over 3 months late.
So be aware of this company that the sales people will say anything to get you to buy and that the customer service and follow up service is the worst that I have even seen in any stores that I have bought from.

They understood our needs

My wife and I purchased a beautiful dining room set and a smaller sofa for our den. We were delighted with the selection of quality products and different styles than most other stores. We were treated by our saleperson like royalty! We were so happy with the shopping experience in this world where big promises usually equal big disappointments. Decorium exceeded our expectations by miles and we will back FOR SURE!

sectional sofa and accent chairs

One of the worst experiences, terrible service from the floor manager, store owner and customer service. Will never come back to the store and advise everybody to stay away!

We have purchased a sectional sofa and 2 accent leather chairs in October, 2010. By the end of December we have not heard back and called to enquire. We were told that the sofa and 1 chair have arrived but the 2nd chair was still with the manufacturer. We came and picked up the sofa and 1 chair. At home we have realized that the room did not have enough space to accommodate the sectional couch and 2 chairs. I have called the store and asked to return the chair we have picked up and get a store credit for both chairs. The store manager has advised me that I will have to pay 25% restocking fee on both chairs - even on the one that was still at the manufacturer. I have left at least 10 messages with the store owner but he would not return any of my calls. Finally I demanded to talk to the owner rather then getting his voice mail. The owner was very rude and told me that since the chair has already left the manufacturer there was nothing he could do and I would have to pay a restocking fee. The 2nd chair has arrived a month later and.... was a different colour and a different leather quality. The customer service did not return my calls for 2 days until I threatened to lodge a formal complaint. I was then asked to mail in the pictures of both chairs. Upon reviewing the pictures, the customer service representative has told us to bring the chairs back and get the store credit to be used within 30 days. You would think this was the end of it. That's what I thought. Big mistake! The sales person who has sold me the chairs called to tell that she saw the chairs and that they were a disaster. However, the customer service has called me to tell that she looked at the chairs and could not see anything wrong with them - that they looked identical. Only after I informed her that I will go to CTV news with the chairs and the pictures she backed off and allowed the store credit.
Terrible experience and terrible overall service. Everybody including the store owner were rude and did not care. We will never go back to the store and I advise others to stay away. It is overpriced and provides the worst customer service.

Kitchen Table and Chairs

I purchased a kitchen table and 4 chairs for our dining room which were supposed to be delivered in 3-4 weeks maximum in SEPTEMBER. Initially I had some qualms over where the furniture was made as I try and avoid purchasing anything from China and was assured by the salesperson that the product was made in North America. After 4 weeks had gone by I call the store to get an update as to where my furniture is as I had not heard back from my sales rep or anyone else from Decorium for that matter. After leaving multiple messages for my sales rep, they finally return my call and tell me that they are waiting for the purchasing department for an update. Another week goes by and I call back AGAIN as nobody has called me back and ask to speak to a manager. After being put on hold for 20 minutes I finally get a store manager who gives me the same speech as my sales rep. Finally, the store manager tells me that because my furniture is coming from CHINA that it will take roughly another 4 weeks until the furniture arrives. At this point I am furious because I was DELIBRATLEY MISINFORMED about: Delivery dates – It’s been 12 weeks now and I still have not received my furniture and 2. I was DELIBRATLEY MISINFORMED about where the furniture was made to make a quick sale.

I ask to cancel my order at this point as I am livid about being DELIBRATLEY MISINFORMED. The store manager (a very rude man) then informs me that there are essentially no cancellations and that everything is subject to a 50% restocking fee. Upon looking at my receipt I notice that I have DELIBRATLEY MISINFORMED again, the invoice clearly states a 25% restocking fee. At this point I am boiling with anger and ask to speak to the owner. Surprise Surprise the owner is on vacation for 2 weeks and will be able to speak to me after they get back from vacation. It’s now been 4 weeks since I initially had this problem, I still have not received ANY of my furniture and despite leaving 5 messages with the owner I have still not heard back from anyone at Decorium.

I get the sense that the owner of Decorium is out to make a quick sale and then hire rude management to fight with their customers. After reading all the comments on this page it looks like my experience was not an isolated incident and other people have been SCAMMED by this company before. The real kicker is that a week ago I killed a Sunday afternoon by looking for a couch and found the exact kitchen table and chairs at another store for roughly $1000 less than at Decorium. After reading so much negative feedback I wonder how Decorium manages to stay in business. I wish I had researched my purchase before I had the unpleasant shopping experience at Decorium. I hope that people will read this post and seriously consider shopping somewhere other than Decorium. In the GTA there are many furniture companies worthy of your business that value their customers. Personally I will make sure that everyone I know will NEVER set foot in this store.

sectional

Do not be tempted to go to this store. The prices are outrages, the service is too pushy, not proffessinal, no customer care, a bully of a store manager that i would fire on the spot with his attitude and a store owner that couldnt care weather you come back to shope or not. I guess business is great for him but remember Mr Owner You cannot be always on top. You will come down and will want customers to come back to your store...too late, the damage has been done.
I purchased a sectional sofa along with cabinette for our dinning room at what i was told is a great special price however, if between now and delivery date should the price comes down they will honor it and credit me the difference. I still didnt recieve the items and sure enough there were further reduction on them. I went back to the store and asked to speak to the store manager that told me in a rude manner that i will not get the special reduced price as i bought it few month earlier and did not matter if i am still waiting for them to be delivered. I asked to cancel my order but his reply was that he will not return my deposit as there is 50% stocking fees even though their sign state 25%. when asked for the store owner i was told that he doesnt care to speak to me. Can you imagine? I spent over $7,500 and he doesnt care to speake to a loyal repeat customer.
I walked away with tears in my eyes and promised NEVER EVER TO come back to shop at that store where customer care is at ZERO...Shame on them!!! there are many store in Toronto where the prices are reasonable and a good product and Not scamming people by lieing to them that is made in the state when it clearly stated made in China. Buyer be aware!!!

bedroom, living room

At the time of the sale we were told ONE delivery charge for both items; they called us to ask if we wanted our bedroom set delivered (we were still waiting for our other furniture; we accepted and they failed to tell us they were charging us for another delivery! We went to complain today and manager was arrogant (cold like Russia), didn't care about our complaint, just kept showing the fine print on the invoice! Not only did they loose a customer for life...hopefully those reading this will look elsewhere to spend their money...NOT HERE! Robbin money from a customer, that's what it is...beware of this scam! Our sales rep was there, and felt bad for us, but nothing he could do, he's just staff.

Mattress purchase

We bought a king sized mattress from Decorium and were told by 3 employees (the sales person who helped us, and 2 different delivery coordinators) that the delivery people would remove our existing mattress and box spring (as well as garbage) with the delivery of the new mattress. Upon delivery, we were informed that they would not be removing our existing mattress, and after 45 minutes of arguing with the manager of the store they refused to take our mattress and box spring. Delivery guys left, and left all the packaging materials on our front lawn. As a furniture manufacturer myself, I called the owner of Decorium to complain about the service we had received (and at least get a refund on the delivery charge). After 3 messages, the owner still has not called me back. I am shocked that a furniture retail store, that relies so heavily on word of mouth and service has such abysmal customer service. I have never before gone up the ranks of a company to its owner to complain...and then to have that owner not call back a customer is shocking to me. Avoid this store. The owner of this store certainly doesn't care about your business once you've given your visa. There are 100's of stores to buy furniture and mattresses in the GTA...this is one that doesn't deserve your business.

Refurnish living, dining and bedroom

Decorium hit a home run for me again. I've been buying furniture from Decorium ever since I moved out of my parents house. They sell the styles I like at 1/2 the price as other stores like Martin Daniels or Deboers. I love the new look I was able to accomplish in the house. I renovated and couldn't wait to furnish. Thank you for the great design advise and delivery went smooth as planned! The delivery guys really worked hard and tool special care to make sure nothing was damaged clean.

A satisfied and loyal customer,
Greg S.
