I purchased a kitchen table and 4 chairs for our dining room which were supposed to be delivered in 3-4 weeks maximum in SEPTEMBER. Initially I had some qualms over where the furniture was made as I try and avoid purchasing anything from China and was assured by the salesperson that the product was made in North America. After 4 weeks had gone by I call the store to get an update as to where my furniture is as I had not heard back from my sales rep or anyone else from Decorium for that matter. After leaving multiple messages for my sales rep, they finally return my call and tell me that they are waiting for the purchasing department for an update. Another week goes by and I call back AGAIN as nobody has called me back and ask to speak to a manager. After being put on hold for 20 minutes I finally get a store manager who gives me the same speech as my sales rep. Finally, the store manager tells me that because my furniture is coming from CHINA that it will take roughly another 4 weeks until the furniture arrives. At this point I am furious because I was DELIBRATLEY MISINFORMED about: Delivery dates – It’s been 12 weeks now and I still have not received my furniture and 2. I was DELIBRATLEY MISINFORMED about where the furniture was made to make a quick sale.
I ask to cancel my order at this point as I am livid about being DELIBRATLEY MISINFORMED. The store manager (a very rude man) then informs me that there are essentially no cancellations and that everything is subject to a 50% restocking fee. Upon looking at my receipt I notice that I have DELIBRATLEY MISINFORMED again, the invoice clearly states a 25% restocking fee. At this point I am boiling with anger and ask to speak to the owner. Surprise Surprise the owner is on vacation for 2 weeks and will be able to speak to me after they get back from vacation. It’s now been 4 weeks since I initially had this problem, I still have not received ANY of my furniture and despite leaving 5 messages with the owner I have still not heard back from anyone at Decorium.
I get the sense that the owner of Decorium is out to make a quick sale and then hire rude management to fight with their customers. After reading all the comments on this page it looks like my experience was not an isolated incident and other people have been SCAMMED by this company before. The real kicker is that a week ago I killed a Sunday afternoon by looking for a couch and found the exact kitchen table and chairs at another store for roughly $1000 less than at Decorium. After reading so much negative feedback I wonder how Decorium manages to stay in business. I wish I had researched my purchase before I had the unpleasant shopping experience at Decorium. I hope that people will read this post and seriously consider shopping somewhere other than Decorium. In the GTA there are many furniture companies worthy of your business that value their customers. Personally I will make sure that everyone I know will NEVER set foot in this store.
