My wife and I recently purchased a 3-storey townhouse. The top two floors (and connecting staircase) were covered by carpet that had clearly suffered through pets and smoking from the previous owners. The final project plan was to get someone to remove the carpet, install new hardwood, and cap the staircase with new treads/risers. In addition to all this, we wanted to refinish the remaining elements of the capped staircase (stringers), as well as refinish the entire main staircase, and have both staircases match the newly installed hardwood. We also wanted new posts and iron pickets.

Enter SB Hardwood Stairs and Flooring… after a number of quotes from different folks, we decided to choose Simon and his team. They seemed very down to earth, they saw our vision and told us what we could and could not do, and the lines of communication were always open. There was quite a lead-time before the project started (~6 months), but it was definitely worth the wait.

The team was ready to go every morning at 8am sharp, as they said they would be. They worked through the house with care and attention to detail. In places where some issues popped up, they took the time to make suggestions and guide a decision on a workaround. The job was finished on time and within budget. After the job was completed, we noticed one doorstopper was missing. While it’s something we could have easily taken care of, Simon told us that it’s not something that should be missed, and personally made the trip out to take 30 seconds to install a new one.

We are so happy with our new floors and staircases. We have already told Simon that we will be calling back his team to take care of the flooring on the main level when we decide to pull the trigger on the adjacent kitchen renovation.

Simon and his Team (lovely Dad, Paul and Ziggy) did an AMAZING job renovating our "Scarlett O'Hara" style staircase.

Excellent work, clean and tidy. It was a pleasure to work with Simon, his lovely dad and Ziggy. What a great group of guys. They were on time and schedule.

Our 20 year old carpet needed replacing, and we got a quote from Simon. The stairs were the main issue, as they have 2 landings, and run from the basement all the way up to the first floor (3 stories).

Simon assured us that he could refinish the existing handrails/newel posts, install new stairs and landings, and match the stain to the flooring we chose.

Simon was booking 6 months in advance, but we decided to go with him as we had other redecorating to do first.

It was worth the wait! Simon, his dad and the rest of the team did an outstanding job. The new staircase is beautiful, and the custom stain matches the flooring we chose (white oak) perfectly. Simon also replaced our old baseboards, and touched up any paintwork.
Note: the baseboards Simon provided are primed, not painted, so we got our painters back to paint them. Not a big deal (we had just repainted), but worth knowing.

Simon was very responsive, and always answered our e-mails and
phone calls promptly.

The results are outstanding. We are so pleased with our new floors and staircase. I would highly recommend Simon and his team.

I can't say enough about what a fantastic job Simon, his father and Ziggy did on our stairs! They are a highly professional team. Work started on time each morning and the place was left very clean at the end of the day. They are masters at their craft - the work was done meticulously, with great attention to detail. So very pleased with our stairs and can't wait for them to do the hardwood in the bedrooms. Simon ALWAYS replied to my messages promptly, and answered any questions I had. I'm so glad I found SB hardwood via Homestars. I'm including before & after pic's - we had the carpet replaced by hardwood in the master bedroom & upstairs hallway, & the stairs totally refinished in custom stained oak to match. As well, handrail & posts were stained to match & pickets replaced. Simon, Bogdan & team did a great high quality job. I'm going to schedule to have the living room & dining room done next, & wouldn't think of hiring anyone else.

Simon and his team were very professional, and were able to work around our team finishing our basement, who were behind schedule. Simon was able to match the stain for our stairs to our hardwood, and was even able to pick-up extra wood for us from the store. The stairs and floor look great, and we've received so many compliments!

Simon and his very dedicated team did such an amazing job on the rebuild/redesign of our main stair case. They were on time and on budget with our project. Simon, and his team did an amazing job upgrading our stairs with wrought iron and re staining the existing stairs. This is the second home SB hardwood has renovated for us and we have been very happy with both jobs. Simon's team including his Dad and Ziggy are craftsman with stairs and hardwood. They can do almost anything with wood and they are always willing to make changes that make us happy. The results are always exceptional. Each day they cleanup thoroughly and they work very quickly (10 days for 2 flights of stairs including 175 pickets, all the stairs, railings, scraping, sanding, staining, painting and finishing). It is a pleasure to have such polite people in our house!! Thanks guys!
