We were impressed with the professionalism of PLANiT when we first sat down with them to discuss our basement project. Price quoted was in range with the other companies we looked at. We were happy to go with PLANiT, as everything was organized and well communicated with us during the planning and design phases, especially by Don and Arnold. Arnold had some great ideas for designing our wine room and creating some more storage space for us. The construction guys that came in were also respectful and courteous. We are overall happy with the quality of the basement.

Despite all those positives, we are disappointed to give a poor rating. We are now in week 27 of a quoted 8-10 week project, and we are at a point where we have to call and text everyday to get any work done to complete our basement. We’ve repeatedly texted and called our project manager and the office to finally complete the project. Repeatedly hearing “it will be done this week” means absolutely nothing to us and would have much appreciated hearing the actual truth to what was going on. We went with Plan It because they seemed well organized and professional; to have this line thrown at us every week when we have been patient with them is extremely insulting. PLANiT literally has just a few easy things to finish off our basement and we can’t figure out why it has taken this long.

We did a basement development in 2014 and were sold on a "white glove experience" from the sales person and we certainly didn't get the service and quality we were expecting. The space designer that was assigned to us didn't seem too confident in making recommendations on how to properly design the space for maximum efficiency - little details were missed on the original drawing that the electrician had to ask me about when he was onsite. The job was several weeks behind and it required several calls to the site super and management to get action. Even when the job was going off track I was told by my site super that he returns calls within 2 days - by that time many of the problems would have been major work to be fixed if they weren't dealt with right away. The major trade they subcontract to (insulation, drywall, painting) were very unprofessional, left our house unsecured several times over the course of the project, had to redo work a couple of times to get it correct (ie. vapor barrier with holes, square drywall corners installed when they were to be round ones, drywall seams clearly visible on several walls, etc) and up to standards that were sold to us in the beginning (which was a fight to get and it is a good thing we checked the work at the end of every day and acted right away before issues were covered up). I actually had the site super tell me I was not supposed to talk to the trades that were working in my house and stormed out of my basement after so doing. At the "end" of the project a cleaning lady came in and did an average clean and then the site super came back to so some drywall touch ups AGAIN and was left with dry wall dust throughout that I had to clean up. The work in the end is average but certainly not the superior quality they sell themselves on. The only thing that was prompt with them was the payment they would take on my credit card. If you use them make sure you are aware you won't be getting the high end quality they sell you on and take your 10% holdback on the project to ensure the little things are done as promised.

Good quality workmanship. Not very good at follow-up appointments. Do not show up when they say they will. Have left a window leak repair sitting partially completed for over a month and have had to be continually reminded to come back and finish the job while we hope that the next rain storm does not leak into our basement.

Great service from the start. Joe and gang were great getting things going, and all other contractors were helpful when needed. The garage itself looks great as far as I am concerned. The only minor issue is that we did not get an updated Job Spec. and Contract with the minor changes to the original estimate. This was only an issue when we thought we had asked for a slight change - a change to exterior lighting - and we had not, but no document to refer to. Other than that minor issue which was partly our fault too, everything went as smooth as the weather would allow (construction late May, early June resulting in some construction delays). Would definitely recommend them, but organised yourself.

Price way to high. Garage pad rebar was not lifted when poured. (I watched them) (Lots of cracks more and more severe than normal) when I brought this up with the super I was argued with. Attic was not ventilated.(getting lots of moisture) when I said something I was argued with then a poor job was done (only 2 static vents installed in the wrong location). Garage door uprights are not plum, when I brought this up I was asked "are you really going to complain about a 1/4" over 8' (well yes I am because when one is out. 1/4" one way and the other is 1/4" the other it looks really crooked) I see this every time I pull up to my garage. The black top they used as a transition slope into the garage is now a 1/2" away from the pad and Is constantly chipping and pitting away. This winter the garage shifted and moved so much I couldn't go in though the man door. All in all I paid way to much ($19000 for a 17' by 24' shell only no electrical no drywall low quality garage) Very dissatisfied.

I had Planit build a custom garage for me at my new home. I worked with Murray and his team to get the details squared away...awesome job, worked the quote for me and answered all of my questions so that the final quote reflected what I was looking for. When time came to start, Steve and Joe were assigned to be the Supervisors on the job and did a good job too. They met with me at the home, walked through the plans, the process, and checked out my house and yard to ensure nothing glaring was an issue. These guys were really helpful in helping me understand what was going to happen. The build began and I believe I was one of the first builds of the spring, but I got the feeling a lot of the trades coming in were new, or new to Planit. I had 3 issues with the concrete, all were found before going past the "point of no return." 1) cribbing had some errors in measuring out the size of the overhead doors (custom sized), 2) there was an oversight...not sure if it was on the design, the permitting, or my actual developer regarding the grade of my yard that caused the need for taller curb walls, and as such a cost adjustment, and 3) one small part of the pour was pretty crappy. However, the part i really was happy about was that all it took was a call to Steve or Joe and the issue got corrected. If I thought there was an issue and there wasn't, Steve and Joe spent the time to explain to me. The only other issue besides the initial concrete was that framers missed a portion of framing needed for the overhead doors. Once again, Steve and Joe acknowledged the issue and fixed it the next day. Planit provides an online tracker to help monitor the build...I didn't find this particularly useful except for the initial schedule, as if anything changed (I had a delay in the pad pour after the curb walls were done), the schedule didn't get updated anyways....so near the end the communication as to what trade would be onsite when was mostly verbal. But again, I was pretty happy to deal with Steve or Joe...they took my calls and called me back...no avoiding the home owner at all.

I would totally recommend Planit to others looking for a garage build...they manage it from design to permitting to build and inspection...basically here are your keys.

Because of the number of jobs (I assume) going on at one time, the trades may do a good chunk of work in a day before the Supervisors can confirm the quality and progress...so as a homeowner, take a tape measure out each day and check. Somethings (like concrete) you don't want getting too far down the line before you find an error. Like I've said already, Steve and Joe corrected any faults found.

PlaniIT Builders built our garage and from start to finish we were pleased with every aspect of the process. Our initial meeting with the company was very professional and very well explained. They were straight forward and honest about their prices being on average $1800 more than most companies, but thoughly explained why. We were sold on the fact that they have a great 5 year warranty, and build above code in a number of areas throughout the garage. What pleased us the most was their communication with us during the building process. We were always informed where they were in the building process and what was to come next. The only hold up was pouring our concrete, but that was due to the constant rain we had here in Calgary in May. All of the workers were polite,friendly and professional. In particular, our site manager Joe went above and beyond for us. He was in contact with us on a daily basis and promt with returning calls. In fact, we respect his construction knowledge so much that we will be having our basement developed with PlanIT Building and specifically asking for him to be our site manager again. I would recommend this company to family and friends in a heartbeat and hope that their experience with PlanIT is as amazing as ours!

We definitely have to change our review. I will definitely not recommend this company. The way they sell their product is engaging but their execution is poor.
They delayed without any valid reason or proper updates for two months our construction. Afterwards, they tried to rush everything into one week.
We had to notify the site manager that weeks went by without any trade showing up to our home to work.
We were the ones that ended up following up on the project.
Also, we had initial requests made to the project manager assigned most of which did not take place at all.
We are supposed to be paying a price for someone to actually take care of the overall project and it is not worth it. Quality-wise, it may be ok. But now i have the doubt if we might have gone through less pain if we were to hire the trades separately.
Worst part is that with all the delays and lack of follow up they expect us to sign off on the project where there are still major pending items to fix and leave to our entire satisfaction.

I contacted Planit Builders after looking at a few different companies to do my basement finishing. The communication at the start of the process up to where we are now has been great at every step so far. All people taking part in the process are great to deal with and easy to approach with any questions that come up. The site co-ordinator Johnny Bennett keeps in touch with me on a regular basis and is more than willing to help out any way he can, he is a pleasure to work with. Everything is going very well so far.

Planit builders did an excellent job on constructing/ planning our garage.
But when everything was finished we noticed problems and asked to have warranty done. It has been 3 months with no response, it's like they take your money and run scenario.
