Fix a kitchen faucet leak

The Good:

The ClearView staff were prompt and friendly, they were quickly able to diagnose the problem.

The Bad:

They had to provide options to repair that ranged form $450 - $1,550 the kitchen faucet leak.

My job requires a $20 part and an hour of time. Buyer beware.

Approximate cost of services:
$1,550.00

Removal of stuck cylinder & pin. Inspection & recommendation.

I called Clearview because I had a moen shower pin and cylinder stuck in the valve. Paul said he'd try to get it out, after much yanking and pulling they both came out of the valve. Paul inspected the value and said it was in good condition and "thank goodness because it could have cost $1000+ to replace the valve and then the tile work". We all celebrated that Paul "preserved" and was able to "save the day". He installed the new shower handle, then asked me if I wanted to add on the other shower component for an additional fee of $250, which I did. I wanted this work done correctly. Paul ran downstairs into my mechanical room and turned the water back on. He placed the handle components together and we set a water temp. Paul gathered his thing and I paid about $550.

Little did I know the valve that was "in good condition" was leaking due to the damage sustained from the Cartridge and pin removal. There was absolutely no leaking prior to this work done by Clearview.

The leak went down the wall and into my basement all over my electrical panel for a WEEK!!!! Because I don't go into mechanical room this went without noticing until finally there was enough water for my electricity to short out, thank god!!!!! The electrical damage was a total mess and cost $700 to repair, not to mention damage to all my husbands tools and all of my childhood pictures and treasures that were stored there. I was absolutely heartbroken :(

A technician did come out to my house and inspected. He gave me a quote for $1200 with a possible $200 credit for the work previously done - Because he too agreed that "Paul likely didn't check the work, because the leak was very obvious and fast"....we all knew someone was at fault.

The technician came out and took apart Paul's work we could see right away the was a fast leak from the valve. He said he cylinder and pin were in new condition. He said it we still a possibility that the cinder failed so we ran out and purchased a new cylinder..still leaked.

Ultimately it was noted that the valve was badly damaged and leaking from the sides.

It was so bent I could see it with my eye and I am no plumber. I was in shock!!!

How was this missed? Simple, Paul he didn't check his work before sealing up my shower handle...and he never returned to my mechanical room to check if there was a leak.

I called Clearview hoping that they would resolve this issue with great customer service - unfortunately they suggested I call my insurance and that there was nothing they could do for me. Do yourself a favor do not hire in a Clearview - their work could fail (after all they are only human) and if it does you will be screwed and worst off than you started.

Please note that if Paul had discovered the damaged valve and would have suggested that I replace the entire valve, I would have done so! I wanted this work done correctly and right. Valve replacement was never recommend to me. "All was good" - Paul!

Lastly, when I hired a new company to repair the valve we discover that CLEARVIEW took my brand new valve that I had come with my new shower kit!!!! WTF is that crap! I had to go out and purchase and entire shower kit again to ensure everything fit! $170 down the drain!!!!!! So aggravating that my parts were taken from my home.

I asked for my valve to be returns to my house....never happened. I was never offered $ for the replacement either.

The owner dodges calls, has his secretary do his dirty work.

Not very Canadian if you ask me!

Plumbing repair

Extremely overpriced. Absolutely a rip-off. I booked a simple repair to replace a leaky faucet. On the phone I explained the problem and asked for a quote. She told me that they need to evaluate the job and they would give me options. So the day of the repair, two techs showed up. They looked at the faucet, went out to the truck, and came back with 4 options. Starting at over $1000. The low option (the one I wanted all along) was to replace the cartridge. For that they wanted over $500. The cartridge is worth maybe $40, and the job can be done in 15 minutes.

So I ended up paying for the dispatch ($70), and now have to find an honest plumber.

furnace

Purchased furnace from Clearview. Problems ever since. Installed incorrectly and they refused to correct. Paid another contractor to repair. They no longer represent this manufacturer. I can not believe they continue to stay in business.

Hot water tank repair

We had a very unfortunate experience with ClearView Plumbing and Heating. They came into our house and pressured my fiancé into an upgraded water heater when all that was needed was the heating coupling fixed on the existing unit. I let my fiancé make the decision to do what she felt was needed because I was in meetings at work. The person who came in pressured her to get a new water, which we got and then went on to try and get her to purchase a valve to control the water pressure coming in to our home. I contacted the City of Calgary Water Dept. and based on their readings our water pressure was within the normal guidelines, yet ClearView continued to argue that it was not. We did not do what ClearView suggested we should. Thankfully. After one day the water heater had a leak, which was identified by the ClearView service tech as a manufacturers issue, not an install issue. We had water leaking from the top intake pipe into the water heater. That tech then said, "your warranty with us for future issues on this tank will not be valid because your water pressure is too high into the house", even though any issue with the tank would have nothing to do with the pressure into the house. I argued this, but he put it into his iPad notes system and stated that was that. None of this is the big issue with ClearView though. I'm only getting started. During the repair of the water heater, the tech broke the water supply line to the humidifier causing water to spray throughout our utility room. I could hear him swearing from upstairs. I went down to find him using our towels without asking us to clean up the mess. He fixed the water supply line to the humidifier and then left. The next day we went downstairs and found our utility room area and surrounding carpeted area flooded. The water supply line to the humidifier was loose and spraying water everywhere. We called ClearView right away, as well as our insurance, and the same tech came out to assess the situation and stated that they were not at fault, even though it was clear to us, as well as the third party insurance rep that it was their fault. ClearView refused to take any responsibility for this issue and so we had to fix our basement. Thank you to ClearView this cost us quite a bit of money. I do not recommend ClearView to even my worst enemy. They are not a good company who stands behind their mistakes. Even during the process to get them to speak on behalf of the incident, our insurance rep was unable to reach the tech as the ClearView office did not make him available to do so (they kept putting him out in the field). Please do not use ClearView.

Two broken water ehaters

In the heart of Dec discovered that 2 of 3 hot water heaters were broken so called Clearview, but incredibly disappointed. The advertised $65 service turned into $250 proposal fee so they could give me a quote for 2.5 times what I ended up paying. They tricked my family member into "authorizing" this charge. No integrity as a service company...Don't be tricked by them!!!! Brutal!!

Air Conditioning

We had a number of companies that came to quote us for Air conditioning, but ClearView was the only company that didn't seem to mind potentially wasting over an hour to make sure we had all of questions answered and that we understood all that we should understand as home owners about air-conditioning. When the units were installed the technicians were very polite, and worked very hard on site. From the initial telephone call to the completion of the installation we have had excellent service from ClearView.

Furnace diagnosis

Extremely high pressure "sales" tactics and unreasonable pricing.

Decided to walk away after paying a unprecedented $350 diagnostic fee for 10-15 minutes worth of work. This was pushed onto a family member, who agreed to it on misplaced good faith without performing due diligence. The diagnostic fee led to an inflated quote, which was revealed by a second opinion to be double the normal cost. Not surprisingly, the second opinion did not require a price gouge for a simple diagnostic.

I feel that the high diagnosis fee pressures customers of Clearview to agree to the quoted inflated service - no one wants to walk away from that large of an outlay, and no one so trusting as to agree to it in the first place would believe that a company would quote a service so outrageously out of line from their competitors. Until they do some research.

Further, Clearview is not receptive to feedback, and I found them to be extremely defensive. Manager justified the fee based on the cost of doing business. I am amenable to paying more for good service and skilled work, but there is no question that $350 was way over the line for a trivial diagnostic. I can't think of another service which charges this much for so little. Additionally, my previous experience indicates that the skills of this company's workers are nothing to write home about - a minor plumbing job from Clearview resulted in two visits and an unsolved problem. My mistake was not warning other family members about using them again.

fitting failed on fridge - got good advice but expensive quote

I was given some bad advice on which fitting to use to connect my fridge to a water line at a large home reno store and it failed right before I had to head out for work out of town. The shut off valve was a bit leaky so we shut off the main water and my wife wanted the water back on, so she called Clearview to come in and look at our issue for a 70 dollar dispatch fee. They came within a few hours which was nice and had decent advice to replace the fixture with copper or braided hose. My issue was that they didn't come with the parts required even though we told them what the issue was and that they wanted 600 dollars for what they admitted was 20 minutes of labor and about a 30 dollar part. My wife called me and I sent them packing after the tech told me that his iPad determined pricing and not common sense. He told me that "Calgary is expensive" and to call the office to ask about pricing so I did. The office said they had to call the tech. Finally next day I got a call from the office and they said the tech provided me the correct options. I told them they were going to get a review and here it is. I had to fix the problem myself when I got back. I guess I got 70 dollar advice if anything. Beware of this company if you want quick and very easy work done since they charge you like it's a large job. I tried to recover the dispatch fee because their pricing is the equivalent of entrapment but that went nowhere either.
