Ali was our technician. He arrived when he said he would. He was very friendly and polite. He put overlays on the floor from the door to the furnace room. Then he covered the base of the old tank with plastic before he removed it from the house. He was quick and efficient in installing the new tank. He gave us a complete description of the operation of the unit. We were very satisfied with his work and his clean work habits.

Phil Sands was very helpful in resolving the built-up calcium that seems to be throughout my plumbing system. He gave me tips about getting the calcium removed. He installed a saltless water softner - the install was efficient and informative.

Phil is very accomodating, informative and helpful about all the household plumbing needs - including continuous maintenance.

Got lined up with A1 Chesney through Costco. I was very pleased with the quoting and installation process. Sales representative, Richard, was professional and honest. Discounted rate through Costco beat the other competitors. Installation of the unit was smooth and easy. We are very happy with a nice cool home.

Let me start by saying this could have easily been 0 stars, but A1 did what needed to be done to honour their customer satisfaction guarantee. Long story short: the AC unit they recommended wasn't cooling down our house. After several technician visits to ensure it was running properly, they suggested the unit be upsized (including the electrical, etc.) and did this at no additional cost to me. Overall, there were some issues with the work performed, but they stood behind it and made it right. Only reason for a lower than 5 satisfaction rating is that ideally they would have gotten it right the first time to save them a lot of time and money, and me some time, but I would recommend them based on my experience.

Phil arrived on time with a new water tank in his van. He got straight to work dismantling the old unit while explaining why these tanks rust out and leak.
He was very knowledgable, easy to talk to, installed the new tank and piping in a very professional manner, pressure tested everything, cleaned up and explained the operation leaving us feeling very satisfied with a good job done properly.

On May 10 a service technician called Jamil came to my house to look at one (of two) York AC units I own. One of the units was not working and the technician diagnosed the problem to be a seized compressor. He wrote in the Customer Receipt, “AC not running due to the compressor seized up.” He provided an estimate to replace and repair the compressor of $1,437.00. He also charged me $124.95 for the service call.

On June 12, I had another company come to my house to replace the compressor. However, they quickly realized that the problem was not a seized compressor, but the AC unit simply needed a “hard-start” to be installed at a price of $29.00 each. They installed one in each unit for a total of $235 (including the service call)

A1 Chesney misdiagnosed the repairs needed and almost cost me $1,200 MORE than was required. Luckily the mistake was caught by a technician from another company.

I called the manager Tony at A1 Chesney (twice) to ask for reimbursement of the $124.95 service call, however, both times I got his voicemail and both times I left messages. He did not return my call. I also emailed A1 Chesney from a web form on their website and got an automated response to say they had received my message. They did not reach out to contact me. I also emailed Customer Service at Service Experts, but they have not contacted me.

Update (June 14) - I am out of the country today but I received a voicemail message to say they will reimburse me.

Update (June 22) - I just returned and still no reimbursement. Since last week I have left 2 more voicemail's on the Manager (Tony) voicemail and still been unable to speak with him. So far I have sent 2 email/web messages and left 4 voicemail's and had one voicemail in return - but still no refund.

One of my tenants had an issue with her furnace out in Strathmore. A1 was quick, prompt and polite. They even waived a fee! Excellent company, will do business with them in the future.

To start my review is not about the technician or the sales representative who took my phone call and made my appointment but rather the overall customer service I received. My AC unit would not start and it's the beginning of the season. I had this problem last year and it ended up being the high pressure switch that tripped. I know I should have paid more attention last year but I didn't see the technician reset the the button. Before calling A1 I attempted to troubleshoot the problem myself using you tube videos with no success. I couldn't locate the reset button and called A1. I explained I had this problem last year and paid someone to come out for 5 minutes at a total cost of $125 to push a button. I was hoping that I could get some advice where to find the button prior to making an appointment and paying the hourly rate for 5 minutes of work again. The sales representative who took my appointment was very professional and polite but was unable to direct me to someone who could help troubleshoot the problem saying that I could not speak to a technician but would have to make an appointment at the rate of $125. I felt I was out of options and made the appointment. A technician was able to come by the same day and was also very professional and polite. I explained the situation and what I thought the problem was. The technician showed me where the button was and after 5 minutes of work again I was again paying the hourly rate. I know that this is a business and the company needs to make money but I feel I was taken advantage of. I think there is a right way of doing business and that the company could do a better job in regards to there customer service and not care about just the dollar they will be receiving. I was a previous customer and again felt taken advantage of. Next time I will probably not use A1 service or recommend it to people.
