Bought the sofa in the attached image from Arrow in Scarborough a couple of weeks ago for my new basement reno. It was promised to me during the first week of July but then they called me and let me know that delivery will happen in May!
The Sofa was exactly what I was looking for. Something modular that will fit in the basement.
The Sales guy A.J. was nice. No pressure, answered all my questions. Gave me a quote and all the measurements so I could tape it out in my basement to make sure it fits the space the way I expected. I had gone in twice without buying anything to make sure I knew what I wanted. There were no harassing phone calls, nothing. This is much appreciated.
We were pretty excited on delivery day. However when the truck arrived I was told pretty adamantly that there's no way it will fit down my stairs and into the basement. Not sure why; the sectional is in four small pieces. It's designed for this purpose!
Because the driver said he does this job daily and knows for sure it's not going to fit, I let him take the sofa back. I figured maybe I have to rethink this because the professionals are telling me it's not going to fit. Disappointing for sure.
I go back to Arrow and of course I'm not getting my money back. Once you've paid you're stuck. It's not like this is a custom sofa either. Even Ashley the manufacturer would have taken it back less a restocking fee had I bought it from an Ashley store. Maybe next time.
Frustrated, I tell them to bring it back. A week later the sofa is is sitting in my family room and I'm warned by the driver that it's not going to fit.
As you can see by the image, it does fit. And it went downstairs quite easily. No damage to the walls, no special math required, easy peasy.
Remember this story when they tack on the delivery fee for your purchase. Remember that all you're going to get is a drop off of your furniture at your front door like it's garbage.
The reason they wouldn't take it downstairs is because it wouldn't fit, wrapped in the packaging. It would have taken time to unwrap the furniture and then take it down. You know, like if you actually cared about doing your job correctly. However, they're paid by the delivery, and this one was just going to take way too long.
I recommend Arrow. However only if you are buying furniture that is going on the main floor of your house. Anywhere else, be prepared to move it yourself because Arrow is either not capable or doesn't want to get your furniture where you actually want it.
I certainly will never go back.
