Moving out of town

The crew was on time and worked hard. They were polite and experienced. I did expect some minor scratches where an item was much larger than expected. That being said as a team overall It was what I expected.

They were efficient and we moved approximately 1 hour away and it took less time than quoted and expected.

They were honest and that it what I wanted.

Great service for business move

We hired Total Care Moving to move our office in Toronto. Everything went exceptionally well. Jenna did a great job organizing our move and communicating what we could expect on moving day. The crew they sent were efficient, careful and friendly. They took apart and wrapped all of our office and warehouse equipment. They delivered everything into our new space and put the desks back together. We really liked how they constantly updated us with what they were doing next. They always checked in to ask if there was anything else that we needed. We just had such a great experience with them. This was the first time that we moved our office and we could not have asked for a better company to help us. Thank you to everyone there that was apart of our move. We highly recommend Total Care.

'Total Damage'

If there's one thing I learned through my move with Total Care, is that everything is open to interpretation. Let's take 'total care', to start. One could think that hiring professional movers with the name 'Total Care' would mean that the company cares more than to deliver your possessions in just 'useable condition'. That they would take 'care' of your belongings while in their hands, and would ensure that they are delivered in the same condition in which they were gathered at the begining of the move. Lesson learned. According to 'Total Care' moving company, causing damage to most of your wooden furniture (and fabric furniture, too), is a completely acceptable practice by a professional moving company.

Ok, so next would be 'wrapping' your furniture. Their advertisements show images of furniture nicely 'wrapped' in blankets, with said blankets held in place by plastic wrap. Their verbal communication to clients about their service including 'wrapping' WITH blankets, would further suggest (maybe more than suggest?), that they'll actually 'wrap' your furniture in blankets, and then bind with plastic wrap. Somehow, this is not the case. Somehow, the 'we'll wrap your furniture in blankets' ended up with furniture being either A)not wrapped in anything at all, or B)being wrapped in plastic wrap only.

Moving along, we come to 'professional'. It is inadvisable to believe that a 'professional' moving company would arrive with: a clean truck; enough straps to ensure that your belongs didn't fall over while in transit (yes, that happened); that they have their own step ladder to stack items and won't be asking their client if they can climb on their (unblanketed) furniture to which the client then has to supply them with a ladder; that they have enough blankets to protect the furniture (as discussed when hiring them); that they know enough about furniture to be aware that gauged wood cannot be repaired by simply 'wiping it clean' (as was suggested); that they know enough about furniture to know that stained, soiled, and frayed fabric cannot simply be 'wiped' clean (as was suggested); that they will actually pick up the phone and talk to their clients, and not hide behind a computer.

The crew were friendly and polite, and there was no issue with paying their reasonable fee which covered the truck, transit time, and 3 workers. No issues at all, had the move been handled by 'professional' movers who took 'total care' of my personal possessions, actually 'wrapped' them in blankets, and delivered my furniture in the same condition it was picked up in.

Dirty, stained, frayed, scratched, gauged & broken: sofa, loveseat, button-tufted coffee table, antique secretary, dining table, antique table, antique desk, decor, antique storage chest, cabinet. I did receive an offer of $100, along with an apology for damage & inconvenience, as compensation. They would not provide a detailed outline of their damage policy, nor a clear outline of how they handle situations where there was clearly a gross lack of care during service. They did, however, inform me that they talked to their crew about procedures so that this didn't happen again in future.

Perhaps I should've requested the same crew that garnered all the good reviews? Errors occur in every business. This company failed to own up to their error. The level of compensation typically reflects the magnitude of the error. They made sure to collect their payment prior to unloading the contents & allowing for inspection. Their offer for compensation would have only made up for the extra (mysterious) 45 minutes they took to arrive at the delivery location. (This 45 minutes did not include the 30 minute lunch break which I was not charged for)

I was quoted for 6 hours, but the crew took 9 hours, incuding help from myself, my eldery parents, and a friend. They were visibly tired about half-way through the move. Two of the workers were unloading small/light items & boxes very slowly on delivery.

If you're looking for 'total care' of your items while moving, do yourself a favour- hire a different company or, at the very least, ask them to assign a professional crew that's equipped with the skills & equipment to protect your belongings.

Excellent communication!

We needed to move a bunch of furniture from another office over in Montreal to Toronto as that office was closing. I worked closely with a member in the transportation team coming back with a few different quotes but Total Care was always the quickest to respond and answered all of my questions. They were a great company to follow up with and their quotes was within our company budget.

After the first move of majority of the furniture, Total Care told us that the last item (pool table) could not be moved unless it was disassembled. Management still wanted it to be brought over and I knew I still wanted to use Total Care as the prices were good!

Thanks for your services!!

Moving from Montreal to Kitchener

Jenna and the Total Care Moving crew helped me out relocate my family from Montreal to Kitchener this Summer (2020)

They sent me a quote based on a 2 bedrooms Appartment that was amazingly competitive and fair! Negotiating with them felt really natural, warm and welcoming. It felt like I was talking to a friend that really wanted the best for me in this frightening attempt of moving in the middle of this covid 19 situation.

I should say that Jenna makes the process a lot easier and you can feel the whole process would be fun.

Mike and the crew in Montreal arrived on time, they notified me the time of arrival and they came with 5 people to take care of my stuff.

We finished loading at 5 pm on a Friday and the crew arrived at 9 am next day as they have said. I loved that because I really like being punctual.

The crew in Ontario was very respectful and they took care of my stuff with a absolute care.

Both crews were super welcoming with my 3 years old , joking and letting him see the truck, and I really appreciated that because he enjoyed all the process and it made the transition easier for him.

Final price was almost exact to the original quote which means they really estimate based on experience and on what it is really going to cost.

I enjoyed working with Total Care Moving since email number 1 and I appreciate and I'm very thankful with Jenna, Mike and the crew for helping me in this big step I was giving by relocating my family

Brampton to Burlington move

Brampton to Burlington

On July 24th, 2020 we moved from Brampton to Burlington. We searched via Home Stars and read the reviews and were very impressed.
Jenna was the first to contact us to quote the move and her constant communication throughout this process we knew we were in great hands. Jenna is a true professional and her follow up is impeccable; the true meaning of top-notch customer service. The reviews on Jenna being amazing are 100% accurate. Total Care Moving’s prices were so reasonable we booked right away with them to secure our move date, so happy we did!
The moving crew showed up on time at exactly when they said they would and they spoke to both my wife and I about how everything was going to work. The crew consisted of three strong men: Nico, Alban and Shawn (sorry if we mis-spelled their names) and they were an amazing crew to work with. Jenna told us they would be great and she was spot on.
The crew took care of our furniture and other belongings as if they were their own. The crew were extremely professional and courteous making sure we were comfortable every step of the way. The day we moved it was extremely hot, sunny and humid and these three guys never stopped, never complained and were beyond fast & efficient.
At the new house, they took the same amount of care when unloading the truck and bringing our belongings into our new house. As they were wrapping up they asked if we wanted anything re-moved while they were here so we wouldn’t have to. We thought this was an amazing gesture to ensure we were extremely happy.
From the very first conversation we had to the final conversation we had, Total Care Moving, Jenna and the crew were simply put...amazing! Would not hesitate to hire this company for any future moves we have and will recommend Jenna & Total Care Moving to all our family & friends.

Sincerely,

Arun & Leslie

Total Nightmare

Do not go with this company, mostly inexperienced movers they have. They have a good sales pitch, but at the end it was the opposite of what I was promised.

Keep in mind I booked a month ahead.
1) I was told that not a problem to get an early start 7am.
Reality: gave me a bunch of excuses and showed up 2:00pm in the afternoon. There is no excuse for this. my thoughts are is I agree with the other bad review for this company is that they double book.
2) Was promised they would protect my flooring with floor runners.
Reality: they didn't even bring floor runners, they absolutely didn't "care". The result hundreds of dollars in damage to the hardwood. Also hundreds of dollars damage to my walls they hit, scraped and for some reason carelessly put their dirty hands on.
3) Was promised they would protect my furniture AND if anything were to happen, they would settle it on the spot.
Reality: A lot of furniture damaged. My dining room table, my son's computer desk, my filing cabinet mysteriously crushed to the point I can't open it. There was damages to many others as well. Again hundreds of dollars in damage.
When I asked the one guy about the damage to filing cabinet I was rudely asked to "call the office" instead.
4) Was quoted at 12 hours max.
Reality, Took 16 hours in total. Because of my hassle of them arriving late they said would not charge for last 3 hours, but when asked about the damage to my furniture, floors and walls. they rudely said I am being compensated by not charging extra hours. when in reality it took what was quoted anyways and I ended up paying over 2000! I may not have minded this price if I didn't have about 1000 dollars in damages. Also, the stress and pressure that was put on our family was horrendous. The workers would be nice for awhile, then would start to complain and "threaten" to charge more.
I also think they are too slow, I did a LOT of up front work for them, taking apart all beds and wrapping them up. We moved a lot of boxes and other stuff ourselves. When they started to complain and threaten me, I was extremely worried, they would just leave and i'd be left stuck many times. so i helped there slow workers load stuff on the truck myself. I had extremely blisters and athletes foot. I was told not to worry, sit back and relax and let them do it, oh they did it alright. oh let them help you with stuff out of the van... no help...as no time.
They finished at 3am in the morning and I got two young kids. then had to come back next day to finish. they did try to finish same day for me, but truck broke down.

Overall this move was a "Total Nightmare", the stress alone i'm surprised I didn't have a heart attack at my age.
I've got lots of pictures of the damages, so I can certainly share if anyone would like to see them.
This company is new and inexperienced, likely double book, and throw contractor style excuses at you. at the end of the day its still a business and if its run like this, I don't think they'll be in business long.
I regret not going with the more experienced and reputable company now. Save yourself this hassle folks, even if you got to pay more. Please learn from my nightmare of total NOT-care.

Total Cost 2100 + 1000 at least in damages 3100!

Company Response

Dear Jeremy Maunder, almost everything that you have written in your review is extremely dishonest and you twisted a lot of things that ACTUALLY happened to try and make our company look bad.

At no point did we say that we would start your move at 7:00 AM. We did however say that we would request a morning start for you. You are absolutely correct in the sense that we arrived much later then we had anticipated on July 2nd. This was not our intention by any means and we sincerely apologize for this inconvenience. Understandably this made the experience more stressful for you however, given why we were late we hoped that you would be more understanding like you were on the day of.

For everyone else reading this to have a concept of why we were late, I will explain. Jeremy hired 3 movers (despite our recommendation of 4 movers and a extra truck, so 2 trucks altogether, we will get into that later), as the crew was preparing the trucks and going through their daily check list one of our movers received a call that his son had passed away due to a freak accident. Of course, we relieved him of work right away and for his safety had the movers drive him home in the truck while another one of our movers drove his car for him. This delayed us significantly. During this time we made it a point to keep Jeremy in the loop and let him know that we would be late and the approximate arrival time. Our head mover was in constant contact with him from the moment this happened. We also offered to reschedule for the next day if possible, since he preferred not to, the guys got there as quick as they could. We were unable to get another crew as all of our other trucks and crews were booked for that day. So we did the best we could in an awful situation and found an extra mover that we picked up from his home then headed to Jeremy as soon as we could. This is not an excuse for being delayed but the explanation as to why we were late. This is an extremely rare circumstances and not one that we could have avoided or foreseen happening. For this we apologize.

Our movers actually have years of experience when it comes to moving. When hiring this is one of our requirements. Please do not blame us for you not being properly prepared and for not listening to our original recommendation and therefore making such statements that our crews are inexperienced. To elaborate on this point, your agents strongly recommended that you go with a larger crew and a 2nd truck due to what you were moving. You seem to have forgotten to mention this in your review. After you reviewed your inventory with Jenna, she did not think that everything would fit onto the one 26 foot truck and recommended that you get another 26 foot truck and a 4th mover, not to run the risk of not being able to load everything.

In your review you are implying that our delay is the reason why we had to bring another truck to you and come back the next day. The truck that we loaded was full and they loaded it tight. They could not fit your remaining belongings onto the truck. This has nothing to do with us arriving late and would have happened either way. Not to mention that during the time before the guys did arrive, you were moving things yourself into the new home. You were aware of how much you had and you were obviously worried that it may not fit onto the one truck. So you made the conscious decision not to go with another truck and an extra guy despite our recommendation. There is a reason that we go through these details and use our expertise to ensure that your move goes smoothly. You also didn’t mention that the furniture was EXTREMEMY heavy and oversized. Having 3 movers versus 4 movers makes a world of difference when handling such items. This again, was recommended to you. Instead of overworking 3 guys (with the stairs in your home and very heavy peices), it would have made it easier for everyone with an extra mover. If you had gone with the recommended 4 movers and 2nd truck, despite our delay they would have been done at a decent time and same-day.
You also forgot to mention that we had our driver that just got back from another move much further from your address come meet the guys to try and load the remaining and get it done. Yes, it is correct that the truck battery died and we couldn’t end up using it. This did not happen to the 1st original truck but to the second truck that we brought from another move. Regardless, we agreed to come back the next day at NO EXTRA COST TO YOU to finish loading what did not fit onto the 1st truck and complete your move. We did not have to do that, but wanted to try and end things on a good note and not leave you with things left at your pick-up address. This second part of your move took 4 hours which we SHOULD have charged you for as you denied our recommendation for a second truck. So we saved you a total of $887.05 after tax.

Regarding your damages, due to them rushing to finish everything and being overworked (needed at least another mover for this job) they scuffed your walls. As compensation for this and the dented filing cabinet (which can still be used) we did not charge you for the extra 2 hours you went over. We charged you up until 1:00 AM where the movers actually finished at 3:00 AM, the first day. With taxes, this saved you another $281.13 which should more than cover the damages you have mentioned. So in total we discounted your move $1,168.18 for a delay that was out of our control and for you not going with the recommended options. We did our part and then some and yet you still write a bad review without being completely honest. The only damages you mentioned (directly to us) with regards to your furniture was to the filing cabinet. Your walls with the surface scuffs on them you sent pictures of. We more than covered these damages with what you saved. Let’s also not forget the waived processing fee for you, which saved you another $57.00.

Just to clarify we NEVER double book. All of our local moving clients have their own truck(s) and crew(s) dedicated specifically for their moves. We do not do more than one move per truck and crew. We do not appreciate you IMPLYING that this is what we do when you clearly knew the circumstances. We did not double book your move. We did not have a move before you. One of our movers lost a child that day and you knew this. Knowing this, you took this and spun it saying that we double booked you. This is very distasteful.
There is also no MAX time quote. It’s clearly written in your estimate and was said on numerous occasions that we charge you for how long your move actually takes. If you went with our recommendation it would have taken less time. And for the record we ONLY charged you for 11 hours so we don’t know what you mean by “Was quoted at 12 hours”. Your move actually took 17 hours but you only paid for 11. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

You did not pay over $2,000.00 you paid exactly $1,884.85 after taxes. When your bill should have been $3,110.03 after everything was said and done. You did all this “extra work” to save time for your move. Not for us. It was not asked or required of you by any means. You also did “extra work” because you knew that you had way more than you originally disclosed and that it would take more time. Please do not make things up just to try and make your review worse and to paint our company in a negative way. No one EVER threatened you, this is the first time you have ever mentioned such a ridiculous and serious accusation.

I think this response clears up everything that you had mentioned in your review. We ask that you revise it with the correct information or remove it completely.

Thank you –Total Care Moving
