The two men were punctual, protected our floors, and worked hard. Our house is very comfortable again thanks to their friendly attitude and professional work. We would gladly welcome them if we needed more work done in the future. Thanks guys!

One of the things we pride ourselves on, at Mackay Heating and Cooling is the way our techs leave the home after an install. They are exceptional clean, and considerate. I know from experience, I have had contractors that are not as clean, and it is frustrating having to clean dust, dirt, oil, grease, anything off our floors, or carpets. We are extremely proud that the techs make sure the mats are laid out, washed frequently, and your home is treated with complete respect. Thank you for your kind works. New Furnace and Air Conditioning

Air conditioner

We needed a new air conditioner for a B&B we're starting up outside Niagara-on-the-Lake. The initial consultation at our place was informative and thorough, and the installation went smoothly. The technicians were friendly, laid down floor coverings through the house and cleaned up after the job. The new unit is very quiet.

We all take the work that is done very seriously. The cleaning, that is great!! Our techs clean afterwards , and I am surprised when I have contractors in our home, or in the office, they leave after the work, no cleaning?? our techs will request new matts to ensure clean work. Furnace Maintenance

Andrew came to fix a small gas leak. He dismantled and applied compound to all joints leading to the furnace. He then checked over the entire furnace and detected a noise in the ventor motor which was subsequently repaired under warranty. I was impressed with the timeliness and quality of his work.

Wow!!! How did I miss this and not respond a bit quicker. So , sorry for that. I cannot understand, but straight to a sorry for the delay is called for. WE are so proud of them and happy they are our installers and not another companies!!!! Pete is dedicated and lives his work and wears his heart on his sleeve. Again, as I have stated before in other reviews....it makes a big difference to have an actual talented tech do sales, as he knows the work that needs to be done to get the job done right. I would not want to have someone that does not know the " tools" side of things, quoting in my home. There is a vast difference. Thank you from everyone at Mackay Heating and Cooling. Installed water pump, furnace and water heater

I was extremely impressed with Peter Hillman and his crew. Peter is a very honest guy who wants the best for his customers. He was able to provide me with a great quote and followed up with obtaining the dates we required at short notice for installation. The crew came out and did an amazing job with installation, they even swept my house after and were so respectful. I will definitely be recommending Mackay heating! Great job!

We find that Pete Hillman is one incredible person, not only because of his honest sales....but because he is an ethical, caring, loyal, transparent person. He is very educated. He is a technician by trade, so when he comes to your home, he knows exactly what the job should look like, what the outcome should be, versus a sales person, not understanding the actual work himself from other companies. WE know the job will be done to the best of what the home needs, and you need as well. He knows what he is doing. He is an incredible person as I stated. The entire team is equally impressive. Installation of Furnace and Air Conditioner American Standard

I was very satisfied with the pre conference with Peter Hillman. He looked at the piping and fittings and told me how to save on energy by duct taping leaky areas. He gave me his best quote compared to other well known companies. He promised the work done on a specific day and the men came on time. The men were excellent. They put down drop clothes and were very neat and careful. We had to leave early and they locked up. We returned later in the evening and there was no mess. Everything was put back in place. Firstly, sorry for the later response. We like to get back to people right away!!!!! We realize this is no small decision to make , to trust, who be called to work on this valuable equipment , and/or choose new equipment and the company behind it.
I am thanking you for taking the time to write such a great testimony for the Mackay Heating and Cooling work family. Peter Hillman, is one of the most incredible people I have had the pleasure to meet. He is a man of his word, and he is highly ethical , not to mention , already a great tech himself as well as soft spoken , no hard sales, kind of man. The techs and the support team in the Mackay Heating and Cooling office, take the biggest pride and have the highest standards that make it a pleasure to see them in action daily.
The cleaning up afterwards, is the words we hear a good bit, but we are never bored of hearing it , and being reminded it is important and it is being done all the time. Also, for the record, the mats are washed frequently, by the owner himself!!!!! It is just the kind of down to earth, humble, but prideful type of people that we are .

Air Conditioner Installation

All the staff were a pleasure to deal with and install techs were on time and got my air conditioner installed and operational. Peter was able to work with our schedule and provide us with the information that we needed to purchase the right unit for our home. I would also really like to thank Andrew, and Josh (?) for their hard work and making sure that everything was up and running.

HVAC Service

Initial call (beginning of January) was met with prompt response but failed to identify the failure (heat pump with electric backup failing). I was told that the current draw for the backup electrical unit was too high for unknown reason and that the contactors were good - the problem couldn't be found. He tried changing a capacitor on the heat pump he thought was bad, then told me he thought it was the compressor. I was told that I should keep resetting the breaker and that they would arrange to have a more experienced tech return to look at it further. I basically wanted at least the backup electrical system working at this point and I think this was an unsafe state to leave it in. I was charged a service call for this, and learned I had to pay a 'transfer' fee to move the warranty that existed on the unit into my name (I was not aware of this when I purchased the house - my bad, definitely look into this if purchasing a house). They did NOT arrange to have a more experienced tech visit the house as promised, I had to call them to get someone back (after sleeping on the couch and resetting the breaker many times) 2 days later. Once again they were prompt once I called them. This service tech (very good) informed me the current draws WERE correct for the unit and that the contactors were bad. He replaced them and the backup electrical system worked fine after that - charged for parts and service call (and upon my request the charges for the first service call that failed to resolve the issue were waived). Additional problems had been noted on the main heat pump system on the first visit, no further action was taken on the heat pump system then and I was informed they would arrange another tech visit once they received confirmation of transfer of warranty. It took a couple of months to obtain this. At the end of February, I once again had to arrange them to send someone back out. The heat pump was worked on again and did get working, but I was informed that the system was not charged correctly and that they would arrange a return visit once the temperature was above 15C. The service tech spilled or dumped fluid beside the unit and all grass in a 1.5 square foot area was killed, it is barren of all grass/weeds as of the end of June. I had to pay shipping for all parts (but the parts and service were now covered under warranty). I was called the following week to have a rep come and finish the job - I indicated that I didn't think it met the temperature requirements yet and the clerk calling said she hadn't looked at the details of the work order and that indeed it was too early for this return service call - I was told they call back to arrange it once it warmed up enough. It is now the end of June and they have not returned to finish the job. Held on to the request to review card to see how they finished up - now I guess I have to either call them again to try to get them to finish, or hire someone different to finish their work...
Positives: They are prompt and friendly to deal with WHEN YOU CALL THEM.
Negative experiences: Technicians seem to have inconsistent knowledge/skill levels (from very good to poor in my experience). Poor communication amongst staff. Unreliable to complete the job or call back to schedule for completion when they say they will.

Thank you very much , Jim , for pointing this out and bringing it to our attention. As you know we have contacted you since these issues came to light. Just so everyone understands, we have worked very hard to correct the problem Jim had by this system. The owner, of Mackay Heating and Cooling, himself, went to your home more than once to aid in insuring that the diagnosis of the problem was correct. WE have also worked internally to correct any communication issues we may have had, in this instance. We located the failed part, had it shipped across the country overnight, and had it installed the very next day.Andrew Blom, the owner, had to go to four stores, before he located the sod for the small patch of grass that was damaged by an oil spill...Jim, you had said it was okay to not worry about the repair of the grass, but we wanted to ensure you did not see that patch every time you went by that spot. As you know , I have called you over the weekend to follow up and ensure everything is working properly. It is. You sounded very happy and therefore, we at Mackay Heating and Cooling, feel confident that we took this information, shared it, and it was taken extremely seriously....and we made sure we did whatever was needed to make you happy with us. We felt that a company should not try to cover an error. It should say sorry immediately, and do anything and everything to ensure this customer got what he paid for and the company stood behind their promise....exceeding what would have been expected to correct this situation. We value all relationships here at Mackay Heating and Cooling.
