Above Grade Basements

We hired Above Grade Basements to renovate our bungalow's basement. It is a 1964 home and the existing basement was in such rough shape, it needed to be completely gutted and redone. I have to admit it was a larger project than I expected due to the age of the home. There were a few unforeseen issues with the house but Above Grade was outstanding in how they tackled these issues. Derek has such a relaxed 'we will figure it out' attitude and the problem solving skills to back it up. In the end we were still on time and on budget.

Part of what we loved about working with Above Grade is that you don’t have to worry about a thing. I've done several large renovations, and never had one go so smoothly. Derek is extremely organized, and a clear communicator. He keeps everything on schedule.

My husband and I are artists and designers which translates to detail oriented, opinionated and kind of pain-in-the-butt clients. Despite that, we were impressed with the workmanship and found that the crew was even more concerned with perfection than we were.

Our hope for the space was to do something a bit different. To insert our personal style and make it a fun area where we'd want to spend time. We added quite a few custom elements such as a games table with built-in bench, custom shelves, a sliding track door and a large exposed beam. Derek, Mike and Matt all had amazing ideas and were willing to discuss creative decisions extensively. They helped us clarify the ideas and make them reality.

I am a person who likes to be a part of the process and never felt for a moment like that was a burden to them. All members of the Above Grade team were super attentive to our project and professional at all times. We are extremely happy with the results and love having a basement that is practical and beautiful. I have never felt compelled to recommend a company as I do with Above Grade.

I was looking for a company to develop my unfinished basement, and Above Grade Basements was highly recommended to us by a friend who used Above Grade Basements for their basement development. I received five quotes, and Above Grade Basements estimate was one of the lowest, and contained a large about of detail which I felt comfortable selecting them.

Derek was great to work with and always took time to respond and address all my questions I had throughout the process. They are very knowledgeable and had great ideas for the project. Above Grade Basements always put in the extra effort to ensure we were happy with the design and layout of every detail. The workers were all very nice and always made sure they kept a clean job site.

The entire project went very smooth. If we ever had a concern, Derek made sure it was addressed. Our project included structural work to remove a telepost, create a new stair closure on the main floor, family room, bathroom, bedroom, wet bar, fire place, and a custom craft table.

We are extremely happy with our basement and would recommend using Above Grade Basements.

When we began the process of developing our unfinished basement, we sought multiple estimates just so that we had a variety of options to choose from in terms of contractor knowledge, personality and of course, price point. We felt the majority of the companies that we engaged were priced excessively high. Above Grade was reasonably priced. When you combined the price point with the comfort we felt with Derek (the owner), we were confident in selecting his company. Derek is extremely personable and accommodating--just the kind of company you feel comfortable having in your home daily for two months.

Derek's team has extensive knowledge and experience and they were able to suggest some things that have proven to be wise decisions. The guys were all very polite and did their best to keep dust and dirt from tracking into the home.

As with any project, there were very minor hiccups but Derek's team ensured that everything was done to our satisfaction. Nothing was left outstanding and most importantly, Derek sticks to his estimate both in cost and time. There were no surprises which is extremely comforting to homeowners entering into such a large project.
