Edmonton- Ottawa

Our recent move from Edmonton to Ottawa was overall a very good experience. Troy's costumer service was excellent, both Alice and Naomi were great, always responded promptly to our emails. The only slightly negative comments I have to make is that a different company came to pick up our stuff in Edmonton (since Troy doesn't have an Edmonton location) and we had to pay an extra charge for stairs (not a huge deal, but we would've liked to know in advance). On the other hand, once in Ottawa we were not charged for stairs which was great. The other thing was that some pieces of furniture were slightly damaged. Overall, I would recommend Troy to anyone!

Kitchener - Montreal

I was very pleased with the staff and overall services provided by Troy transportation. Alice had alleviated my stress by taking care of my move from Kitchener to Montreal. I was very pleased with her prompt responses to my emails and phone calls. The movers were very professional and efficient. I had no damages to any of my item. I highly recommend Troy transportation. I have chosen them again for my parents' move from Milton, ON to Calgary, AB.

Household move from Cambridge On. to Canmore AB.

We consider our recent move from Cambridge to Canmore an overall good experience. If in the future we needed to do another move we would definately be in contact with Troy Transportation. We considered many options for this move prior to committing to Troy and we are glad that we went with a full service provider. The only damage we had to our goods was caused by improper packing which we did ourselves, so no fault on Tory's behalf. The only area in which we could suggest an improvement in their service is in communication with us after the shipment had departed. Due to unforseen circumstances this shipment did not move on the dates as originally planned and these changes where not relayed to us in a timely manner. Other than this minor issue we found all the staff at both ends of move and in the Toronto office very professional and pleasant to deal with. Overall, a job well done :)

What could this company do to improve their services?
Communication after the contract has been signed could be improved. Due to the unforseen circumstances in this move the details of the original contract did not flow thru to your delivery team in AB. This caused some delay and frustration to them on arrival in Canmore.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
If you are going to do your own packing, pack like you have never packed before. When packing consider that all of your packages (fragile ones included) will turned upside down, stood on end or on it's side and be stuffed into any opening that is available to create a tight load on the truck. Pack all the contents in the containers really tight and expect any rectangular container to be stood on end.

Relocation: Montreal to Saskatoon, SK

I used the services of Troy Transportation Moving and Storage for my relocation from Montreal To Saskatoon. Naomi was great at promptly replying to all my messages and keeping me informed as to the process and time required to deliver my things to Saskatchewan. On the day of my relocation the movers where a little late but Troy had the deciency to notfiy of the delay, problem and advise a new arrival time which they kept.

The movers were polite and professional. All my things where catalogued into inventory and loaded in the truck. Tibor was extremely friendly and patient and the whole process took just over an hour to load a 2 bedroom apartment full of stuff. My things arrived in Sasktoon a day or two later than was estimated. As mentioned I was notified 24 hours in advance and the delivery process went as smoothly as the initial pick up. All of my things where accounted for and in good condition. I wish to thank everyone at Troy Moving & Storage for making a stressful process hassle free. I really appreciated the great service and care taken by all.

Great Move!

My husband and I had just used Troy MOving as our moving company from Victoria, BC to Pickering, ON. This company was actually a little bit more expensive but when i took the time to actually look into their company they seemed pretty legit. They have good ratings and when speaking to the staff they answered all our questions and always got back to us. I spoke to a woman named Alice and she was super helpful and great to deal with. She gave me all the right information and told me there were not going to be any hidden fees in the price of my move. I looked into a few other companies and afetr reviewing the reviews and rating again my husband and I ended up bookign with them and they came on time for my pick up and the movers they had coming were very fast and took care in taking our LIFE with them. We were told that it would take i think around 10 days to get our stuff into Pickering and when it came down to the like 7th day we got a phone call. The truck was delayed! So now in a panic, im starting a new job and calling every day then 6 days later I had gotten the call that my stuff was going to be delivered the next day! I must admit i probably wasnt the greatest to deal with but when your doing a long distant move and your HOME is delayed you start to panic. I had my stuff delivered and there were no hidden fees and it was a little bit over what my estimate was but I was just happy to have my stuff. I was also informed I was given a discount because of the inconvenience of my delay and I didnt even ask or mention anything. We were unpackign and noticed a few things were damaged and broken. We followed up with Alice and were told to send in a claim form.Once we had sent in with all our information we received a calla few weeks later from Sofia and she wanted more details and she was very apologetic and seemed genuinely concerned about our damages. She had sent us a very reasonable claim settlement and it was actually more than we had expected in the first place. If I were to move again I would use Troy. Very good service and very friendly staff. Thanks for the great first move and I would highly recommend you!

Moving

Would not recommend this company. Staff in the office are nice but the moving services were very poor. They gave me a small discount off my move but it was not worth the stress. Only one mover showed up to pack and load my stuff - took 12 hours. The employees delivering my things were rude and weren't careful. I had many damaged items and they used packing tape to label my things that weren't in boxes which left sticky residue or removed finish from many of my items. They were late on the pick up and the drop off. I really wanted it to work out but I am still upset with how it turned out! After everything that had happened no one from the office even called to follow up and I had to contact them for a receipt!

Move from Lethbridge, Alberta to Cambridge, Ontario

It is with regret that I write this review regarding my experience with Troy Moving. I am writing this review in the hopes that many others looking to move might be spared cost and grief. I have learned a very valuable and expensive lesson in dealing with Troy Moving. I had so hoped to have a good experience with my son’s move. I have come to the conclusion that your move will either go very, very well or very, very bad! Seems to be no in between with Troy Moving. I too had done my research. Received multiple quotes and read multiple reviews. I decided to go with Troy Moving Company based on the majority of their reviews. They were by far not the cheapest in the quote that I was given. However, as my son was moving back home from Lethbridge, Alberta to Cambridge, Ontario with myself not being able to be there to help him, it was important that I have a “trustworthy” company handle the move. I was given a quote for $1030.00 pre tax based on the information that I had given Troy Moving and their assessment of a 1 bedroom apartment. This move was planned and booked well in advance. The movers came to my son’s apartment a day early, March 28 2012. They had called to ask if they could come and he explained to them that he was not ready as they were not scheduled to come until the next day. The movers told him that they just wanted to come and take a look at what all needed to be moved. They showed up several hours later at approximately 6:30 p.m. and started moving the large items out of my son’s apartment. My son called me frantic that the movers were moving his belongings. I spoke to the movers multiple times on my sons cell phone, asking them to at least give him 2 hours to pack some items and then come back. The movers told me over and over that if they couldn’t move him NOW, they would leave and he would have to find someone else. I contacted Troy Moving and left several messages with no one returning my call. The movers left at 9 p.m. that night and came back to my son’s apartment at 10 p.m. that same evening. The movers then stayed until 3 a.m. and returned to resume packing at 6 :30 a.m. The movers kept telling me that they would help pack my sons belongings and this would be free of charge as they had come a day early. My son had a very expensive custom made glass fish tank which the movers would not allow him to finish emptying, thus moving it with live rock and sand. Upon lifting the fish tank off the stand in my sons apartment, the movers promptly dropped the tank on the floor, breaking the tank. I called Troy Moving to voice my concern regarding the movers dropping and breaking the tank. To this day, Sofia insists the tank was not broken. The tank is indeed broken. As a result of the movers coming a day earlier my son had to pack his exotic fish overnight to be sent the next morning by courier to Ontario, rather than pack them the morning of the date the move was booked for. Thousands of dollars worth of fish arrived dead. We were now having to pay for moving a broken fish tank along with all the paraphernalia for the fish that no longer were!! The final cost of the move was now $4387.79. We also found out after the move, that the move in Lethbridge had been done by Vega Line Moving, which was not made known to us during our communication with Troy Moving. Upon reading the previous reviews from Troy Moving, I see that this is not the first time that there have been issues with Troy Moving delegating the move to Vega Moving with very poor results. I had spoken multiple times to Sofia, as has my eldest son who is a police officer. The conversations quickly took on a “he said, she said” communication style. After several emails and phone calls to Sophia from both myself and my son, Sofia gave my eldest son a verbal quote of the new cost of the move, $3768.55. This was what she was willing to do to satisfy our multiple concerns, although not once has Sofia addressed or acknowledged any of our concerns or issues with the move or the delay. In the end, the move did not take 5 – 7 days as promised, but instead took 8 weeks and delivery was made May 22. I believe the items were in storage in Toronto for a week to a week and a half. Upon telling Sophia that I would be writing a detailed review, she immediately informed me that the cost of the move would be $4243.15 if I wrote a review. Sofia told my son that if I would agree not to write a review that she would agree to the lower quote that she had previously given him. My son told Sophia that she was dealing with some of the most honest people that she could hope to deal with. I will let Sophia's email to me speak for themselves, “If you would like to rectify this situation and offer a discount as a final claim discount without taking this any further I would be happy to see what I can do about offering further discount to the move above and beyond the discount that was offered today.”
“If you are willing to accept a discount on the move as a final claim and settlement offer and are willing to sing to that respect, I would be happy to offer you further discount. We are an honest company that takes care of our customers. Therefore, I would like to settle on an amount in exchange for your agreement. Please consider this and email me back so that I can prepare everything before delivery takes place tomorrow.”
These emails from Sophia to myself concern me greatly. I would even question if this is legal. I explained to Sophia that it was important for me to remain honest and therefore it would go against my conscience to do as she suggested. Sophia’s emails lead me to question the credibility and the integrity of Troy Moving Company. If I had been aware beforehand that this is how Troy Moving operates it would definitely have deterred me from doing business with such an unscrupulous company. As I told Sophia, we too have our own business and honesty is as honesty does. One chooses how one wishes to run their business. We choose to remain honest. We are people of our word. Our clients can trust us. We treat others as we ourselves wish to be treated. As a result, we have the same expectations of others whom we deal with.
I fully expect some follow up “company response” in regards to my review, as is to be noted in the previous reviews of Troy Moving. To be sure, I had shared the fact that I at least had expected an acknowledgement of our concerns, perhaps an apology. Not so. No accountability was acknowledged on the part of Troy Moving Company for any of our concerns. I am very disappointed in the communication with Sofia and I feel that the threat and follow up change in the cost of the move does not do Troy Moving justice. In the end I chose to pay the final amount given to me by Sophia of $4243.15 and write an honest review, rather than save myself $619.24 and have others go through the stress and heartache that we went through. I wish with all my heart that I had read a review such as this before I decided to hire Troy Moving Company.

Company Response

Dear Karen,

Thank you for your recent moving with Troy Moving. We appreciate your business and your feedback. As a family owned business we believe in good customer service and we know that customers is what keeps us in business. However, sometimes we cant satisfy everyone.
Without going much into details online, we would like to point out a few points here so that it would help any future customers.

The pick-up was indeed scheduled for March 29th, 2012. Troy Moving staff called your son and asked if we could come in the afternoon of March 28th, 2012 to start the pick-up as the driver was nearby. It was confirmed that the drivers could arrive earlier, however upon arrival as agreed the drivers were sent back.
The movers did what they could and packed as much as possible on the day of the move. We also held out truck back for an extra day to wait for your family to finish up packing, at no extra charges. We also provided free packing materials and packing services to help - again none of this was an extra fee.

Please note that the fish tank was not dropped, as there is no evidence of it. Upon arrival and delivery of your shipment in Ontario, the tank was confirmed to be intact and in good shape, as no one has reported otherwise, and our staff have clear pictures at delivery destination confirming that the tank is in good shape.

Troy Moving addressed all of this customers concerns, and although the customer was not happy with our service and there were disagreements, Troy Moving has always addressed any concerns with the consumer both in writing and via telephone conversations.

Troy Moving did not charge this customer for almost 2 months of storage, provided free packing services and packing materials, and has offered a discount on the move unlike the customer has stated.
This consumer accepted the discount and accepted delivery without any damages.

Thank you again for your business with Troy Moving and Storage, and we wish you all the best!
