Garnet is, without exaggeration, an inspirational guy. It seems odd to be inspired by having a refrigerator repaired but he's a rare breed of person that enjoys what he does so much, and enjoys doing it well, that he made the experience enjoyable.
I called him third when I was looking for a refrigerator repair man and he instantly stood out as the best choice.
He personally answered my call and very quickly assessed the situation, successfully predicting the problem with the fridge right then over the phone. Notably, he was busy at another job and asked if he could call me back "in five minutes" — and he did, in five minutes.
The first two guys said they couldn't "service my area", which I thought was odd since "my area" is downtown Toronto. One of them mentioned something about not having anywhere to park when he came downtown and the other simply didn't give any reason why. Garnet asked if I wanted him to come by later that afternoon. It wasn't an urgent repair so we decided on 10 the next morning.
He called at 9:30 to inform me that his current job was running a little late and that he wanted to make sure that he called me to let me know that he was going to be there ASAP. That was impressive and I appreciated being informed.
When he arrived shortly after the 10 o'clock time he was prepared and thorough. He had all the tools and parts he needed, not even needing to go out to his truck for anything, and worked quickly to fix the problem.
It was very interesting to watch him work. It's obvious that he loves to find out how things work and fix problems. He explained the problem step-by-step in a way that I could fully understand what had gone wrong with my fridge and how he was fixing it (even providing a short history of the manufacture of the part that needed to be replaced). And he kept working until everything was fixed and put back together exactly as he'd found it, even though I kept telling him not to worry about putting the shelves back in and such. He said: "I put everything back exactly how it was. It's a habit I've had for twenty years and I'm not going to break it now."
When he was done and the fridge was up and running again he gave me a quick recap of the problem, a receipt for the warranty on the new part, and a price that was more than reasonable.
I can't recommend Garnet enough and I think if you're reading this then you should call him and find out for yourself.
