Awful Experience

Awful experience BUYER BEWARE!!
Bought the tile with some extra just in case my contractor had messed up his take-offs.. Once the job was complete I go to return and find out they want to charge me a 40% RESTOCKING FEE!

Then when they come to grab the tile, they say "well you bought 8 pieces of this, why is there only 6?" After a short explanation that I used those tiles, and am returning the 6 leftovers, they say ONLY FULL RETURNS, NO PARTIALS!!

Worst customer service ever. The warehouse manager and owner (Gary) both were rude and off-putting, I will NEVER GO BACK and will NOT RECOMMEND this place to anyone.

Smarmy, expensive and rude...

Smarmy, expensive and rude...
Good product but that's the end of the story... don't trust what half of the staff say... I expect a lot more when I spend $10,000 on tile!

They have great knowledge and are helpful but tell you one thing when you are spending $10,000 on tile, when you come back they don't up any of what they originally told you. We specifically asked about returns on all our products and 'no problem, even partial boxes' ... when you are spending well over $100 per tile that's important. We tried to return tile and not once did anyone ever mention a huge restocking fee and for most of our product they back pedaled and said 'no' flat out on returns.

We did get our contractor rate on product but even at 30% off list their prices are much more than others with similar product.

They also didn't take back or replace any of the tile we were sold that were chipped from the warehouse. Our tile guy managed to use three of the chipped tiles but they even refused to replace the two remaining chipped products that came chipped from them out of the box.

it takes them forever to finish and pull an order, my wife and I have spent tons of time there. It took over an hour once the order was submitted by sales to get it picked and then I noticed that they pulled the wrong product because Ann entered the wrong product so they had to fix and then repick. It took me over 2 hours on a slow weekday to get the product loaded and on the road, with my contractor waiting for me billing time.

Our contractor used to send a lot of customers here and since this issue has stopped. Our tile guy said he dumped Fontile years ago because they are difficult.

As a bonus the service guys were really blunt and rude to my pregnant wife when she came in to do the return and when she went up to sales Ann was also rude and blunt, completely the opposite of who she was when we were spending all the money... it's too bad because they have some great products and during the sales process we enjoyed dealing with them but once the credit card was charged their attitudes changed.

Bathroom renovation

There is no doubt that Fontile carries a beautiful selection of tiles, but you have to be prepared to deal with the pretentious staff. Unless you are *conspicuously wealthy* they really don't have the time of day for you, and they make you aware of that. The staff is surly, disinterested, and unhelpful. I regret purchasing my tiles here and won't do it again.

Company Response

Maria, it can be overwhelming. We like to think we have a broad selection of tiles. Not only picking the right color, but the size, texture, accents like mosaics, etc. Glad to hear the staff was able to help you find the right tile for your bathroom.

Tiles/multi renovations

I am a female designer/renovator and have been dealing with Fontile for at least 10 years, as they have the best tiles as far as I'm concerned, very classy/unique. The first day I went in I met Roy who helped me in ordering some tile for a pool. The tile the owner had a sample of tile that was no longer available but Roy went and found something similar but better, right away, and my client was very pleased with the new selection. I have been dealing with Roy ever since as he is down to earth, extremely helpful and will always go above and beyond. He will totally go out of his way to help me find what I need and even makes sure I'm looked after in other ways like today, coming down to the warehouse to make sure the tiles I had bought were bubble wrapped as I had to carry them a distance and he wanted to be sure it was as comfortable to carry as possible. Being a designer and carpenter/tiler I go to a lot of differents places for the design products I require and one thing I've noticed is the way people treat you in some of these " upscale" places based on looks, which is ridiculous as they would probably get far more business from me than many of there " one time " clients. Roy has always made me feel important and gives me all of his attention ( I can look fairly scruffy when I've just come from the job site) Roy is professional, knowledgable, and always a gentleman and I would recommend anyone looking for beautiful tiles to go to Fontile and ask for Roy if you want amazing service and advise (and a very sweet guy)

Kriss, thanks for your comments. We are glad you have a great experience most recently and in the past buying your tile at Fontile. Roy does go above and beyond to make that happen.

renovation bottom floor for tiles

the hardest part of choosing tiles is choosing tiles. what colour? what size? what will it match with? So many variables. There is a Bob there that helps with all this. he will even make house calls to see the before site and help narrow down the choices. you can buy tiles etc from anywhere, but if you want guidance on picking the right product of tile for your home, go to Fontile.

Great selection, almost overwhelming - have an idea before you go to ANY tile store. If you have never bought tiles - talk to your installer before purchasing any tiles - they have really valuable advice on tile size, layout, tile material/intended usage, ...
