Covered Bridge Roofing & Skylights

A year after a new roof, my living room is a symphony of leaks and it's radio silence from Jiri, the owner and his supposed 10-year guarantee.

I really liked Jiri at first. He seemed attentive, diligent and the work he did seemed of good quality. At the beginning, I would even have qualified him as responsive to calls and texts.

We had our entire roof done. In fact, we're the green-roof log house on Jiri's website. The year after Jiri did the roof, there were problems with leaks during the spring thaw. I contacted Jiri and eventually he came by to check it out. He seemed convinced he knew what the problem was (see attached email). He convinved me that it might be leaks through our dormer windows, so I paid Jiri another 4000$ to seal the dormers (see attached document).

Now, I am once again sitting in a living room popping with the sound of different leaks dropping into different pans. Have a look at the photos. I tried calling Jiri, I tried writing Jiri, my wife tried, I pretended I was a new client and used the form on his website. Nothing.

It's frustrating when someone doesn't keep their promises. Covered Bridge Roofing is one of those people. At the end of the day, I believe that Jiri probably made a mistake, perhaps even an innocent one, and doesn't want to deal with the extra work of fixing it. Now I have serious water damage, needed to call an emergency clean up crew (see photos) to deal with the humidity and the potential mold.

By writing this review, I simply want people to avoid all of the frustration I have gone through, after paying for a new roof, paying Jiri again for more work, paying 2000$ for an emergency crew and cleanup, and then having to pay 5000$ MORE to another roofing company to fix the roof because Jiri doesn't feel like answering his phone and honouring his guarantee.

Watch out, you'd hate to pay for a new roof and end up like me, watching it rain in your living room. Jiri is that guy, the guy that doesn't call back and doesn't help once you're in trouble with his work.

It started with a leak at my chimney. I asked a roofer to look at it. He gave me a cost to repair it, and a cost for a new metal roof since the shingles had another 6-9 years he said.

For the cost difference between the repair around the chimney and a metal roof, it made sense to get a new roof. But then the estimate doubled because he says he underestimated size of roof. I had him do a temporary fix until I acquired more quotes.

Quotes came in. I chose Covered Bridge and asked many questions. He did some prep work on the roof for the snow guards. In the meantime, leaks continued. Before Jiri started on the roof on the Monday, I contacted him to find out if the continuing leak was because of the prep work he did on the roof or the patch work. Patch work. He came right over and applied the correct sealant at the leak area at no charge.

He went over and beyond the work required, completed the rooves–house roof, shed rooves and wood shed roof–in a timely manner, and didn't charge me for issues he found. I am beyond happy with my new rooves. I won't have to worry about new roofing for a long time. And, the bonus is the roof will be recycled when its time comes in decades to come.

I had a leaking addition roof with skylights that required attention. However the leak was symptomatic of deeper underlying issues with the roof which had been poorly installed and insulated by a previous contractor.

In the end, we decided to remove the entire roof and replace it. Following a good deal of discussion, Covered Bridge Roofing offered me a range of options and advice tailored to my needs and budget, so that I could choose what was best for me.

I am super pleased with how the project work turned out and I will definitely be using CBR again.

Dealing with Jiri was great from start to finish. What stood out most was the palpable pride/passion with which Jiri goes about his craft. I felt as though this guy was more concerned about his finished product than even I was.
