Extremely satisfied customer

From the first time My husband and I contacted Todd, he was eager to hear about our project and responded quickly to come see our house in order to give us a detailed quote. After speaking with many contractors, Todd was the first one who seemed to get our vision and really listen to us. Throughout the project, Todd answered everything single phone call and text and if by chance he was busy with something, he called me back within minutes. Todd and his crew are extremely professional and hardworking. They showed up every single day for work and put in a full day each time. Todd and his crew take a lot of pride in the work they do. Every part of my house that was renovated was finished to a T. My kitchen floors, countertops and backsplash were done as well as the removal of a wall. He also created a new master bedroom for me and gutted the main washroom.
Todd kept me updated everyday with details of the renovation and contacted me with any unforeseen hiccups along the way with different solutions and their costs. Todd understood my budget and respected it the entire time. He understood my priorities and made sure everything was finished to my satisfaction. He even came back to finish up the last 2% of things I wanted done, which is more than I could say for any other contractor I have used before. Todd takes pride in his work and I would use him again in a heartbeat. I highly recommend him.

Great company

Todd is an honest guy who will do the best for you If you stay on his a**. Haha just kidding but really- I was 9 months pregnant and desperate to get our flooring replaced before the baby got here and Todd and his guys really hauled a** to get everything done for us in time. We also used him for our kitchen Reno and fireplace Reno and plan to use him when we get our bathroom redone next year. Just watch out because he’s a talker so try to not have him around if you have anywhere to be or need to get anything done. Just kidding Todd! We love you!

Basement finish / other

Todd and crew finished my basement - appreciated all the dialogue ahead of time on pre-planning whoch pays off. The team was always on time to work and made progress at a good pace...no delays. Also good colaboration during project as change-points i wanted came up. They were receptive to changes, provided their experienced pov, and costing was in line.

Todd also has done a number of smaller projects for me (ie: deck stairs, hvac run in kids room, previously leaking sunroom ceiling replacement) and neighbours since and same treatment - solid.

Sorry if there are spelling mistakes in this review...site is hard to edit.

Quality Workmanship & Trust Worthy

Todd and his individual contractors transformed a duplex for us out of a bungalow in Whitby in 2014. While the cost was more than originally anticipated, he addressed all the issues that were important to us to create two quality apartments we are proud of. He has since been on call to help us maintain the property with whatever issues arise. For example he has recommended excellent contractors to us to replace windows; a new roof; and plumbing issues. We have found Todd to be a valuable resource that we can count on.

bathroom reno catastrophe

Never, I repeat, never pay the money up front. A lesson learned. Another victim of the Todd (TDC) Contracting company. Took our $7000 and abandoned the job before it was finished. He didn't pay several of the subs. Tried to deflect responsibility. BEWARE, this guy showed up maybe once or twice a week, and some of his guys do scary work. What was promised to be 5 days, turned into a month, but still not finished. Not to mention the damage done to our basement. Wouldn't recommend him to build a dog house.

You really have twisted the story 100%. I am only going to respond this one time and try to make it short. We have done several jobs for you over the years including two other complete washrooms and your basement and all went perfect. This time you and Cathy were a complete different couple to deal with. I am aware of alot of personal issues going on between you and your wife which are your business. Unfortunately, your wife had approved alot of additional plumbing and changes to be done while you were away for work, and apparently did not discuss with you this info. As for the plumbing back up issue in the basement washroom, you had your chosen plumber come in and scope the drains. He found a scrubby sponge pad in your drain approx 15' into the drain and also that you have some major issues with your existing drains below the basement floor. You also paid him for his services as this was absolutely no issue of mine due to the reno we were doing. We just happened to be there while this occurred is all. You were absolutely completely ignorant to all workers and sub trades on site throughout the reno. You were constantly talking smack of all workers, trades and myself, behind their's and my backs. We asked you to please stop this and calling them "morons". They are well known trades people and very good at what they do. Again, I believe you have alot of personal issues going on right now in your two lives and need to address them. As for the deposit of $7000 (in two payments), I did receive. You fail to mention that there is still approximately $4000 outstanding and all that is really left is a $700 piece of tempered glass left to install, which was ordered already, and have informed the glass guy to deal with you directly for installation and payment. I told you to keep the balance and pay for the glass and additional plumbing that your wife had approved, and feel fit to do whatever you wish with the balance, as my workers and trades no longer wanted to go to your project due to the constant bashing and negativity from you and your wife. We also did additional work including storage cubby closets, as per Cathy, and other small changes. There was an additional $1400 for hidden and faulty existing plumbing in your walls. I could go on for lots longer but will leave it here at this point. Also, I welcome any customers or possible customers to call me directly to get the true story. It really is too bad that it has come to this as we had a professional relationship for several years until now. We simply could not go on with your project any further due to your personal issues. Best for all parties involved at this time. All the best Tim and Cathy.

bathroom

Todd does have a great crew , that's the only
glue that keeps his business from completely collapsing !

workmen show up : wrong or missing parts / mixed up addresses /parts were for another job/ never calls or updates you on progress

gives you a bill significantly higher then estimates when done
also took 3 times as long as original quote ( not issues ....just workers showing up 1-2 days a week

He probably was once a great contractor but to many jobs and no organizational skills have killed his reputation ...stay away unless you like drama and major cost over runs....and can live with a reno that will run way longer then he tells you .....

Company Response

I am responding abit late but thought I would finally respond. We have completed probably close to 25-30 washrooms over the past 5 years or so and had no issues ever except for a Whitby washroom. In response to the missing parts and not coming back daily, this was due to YOU supplying the vanity and faucet, tub and faucet, and toilet. The only issue we had was for your supplied shower faucet that had 3-4 boxes that were already open and missing parts. You informed me that you purchased from Rona in North Oshawa at a discounted cost. Yes, after we got to the tub faucet installation there was some delays as you were trying to track down the several missing parts as needed for this particular faucet being that it was an odd name brand and not a well known reputable faucet company. Finally after a week or more I got involved as you were getting nowhere with it and had furthermore brought us more wrong parts that simply would not work. We then had to order missing parts and the store manager even approved to finally take parts off of display faucets to finally finish your project. Unfortunately this was out of my control and therefore will hold no responsibility at all for the tardiness of the washroom completion due to the faucet you personally supplied. Other than the faucet issues, the washroom was great and turned out very beautiful (in your own words). Not sure where the issue came after we left. Only reason I can think of is that you had an issue with a very small EXISTING scratch on the first step of the stairs leading to the upper level. Although we are certain that it was already present upon starting as we often take pictures on day one of the project, for this reason. I had also had a guy in to look at the scratch for you and he said he could fix it to blend in but you insisted on wanting the entire stairs sanded and re-stained. I simply would not do this especially when not caused by us, but would have swallowed a small fee to simply repair the scratch issue. I am not happy that you felt this way in the end after working together on the project as we did to have the finished results we did. All the best

Bathroom renovation

In the IKEA ad, people close doors on unsightly rooms.
I had been considering installing a crocodile filled moat outside my bathroom door.
With the ancient tile surround, malfunctioning toilet and drooping vanity, it was an eyesore.
Todd Chrysler’s team transformed it in 10 working days into a bathroom worthy of an expensive hotel suite.
Everyone arrived on time and put in a full day’s labour. To a man, the crew knew what they were doing and, just as importantly, applied common sense. As an example, there was a hole in a section of the floor overnight, something to do with the plumbing, and one of the guys inserted a small vacuum cleaner so that I would not be crawling through the woodwork at 2:00 a.m. trying to coax out my cat.
Special kudos to the tiling and painting jobs. They are absolutely gorgeous!
The budget was adhered to but for the new plywood I requested as well as a few doodads that were not in the original quote. Todd and I discussed additional costs beforehand.
Thank you Rodney, Dave,
Matt-the-Tile-Guy and Tom. This crew de-stressed the renovation as much as humanly possible.
And thanks to Todd for saving me a small fortune in crocodile feed.

Basement

BEWARE!!!!! Todd took 115.000$ from us and ran! We got a text from him one morning that our basement is to much for him and he will not continue with it. So we were left with framing, drywall and a subfloor for 115.000$ .... even signed a contract!

Hello Yvonne. It has been awhile. Just checked the Homestars site and thought I would respond. I will try to make short and sweet ad possible but still tell the true story. You have failed to mention about the nearly $20k in electrical that was completed, the $12k in completed plumbing, the broken out floors and underground plumbing and then repairs to concrete floors, central vacuum supplied and installed, the marble tiles throughout the laundry room and bar area ($8k), framing (you mentioned), drywall installed and finished throughout ready for paint (with arched walls and several bulkheads and even the recessed walls for the custom built 8' fish tank at bottom of stairwell and also the theatre room bulkheads with a huge amount of wiring rough-in done for custom strip lighting and also the several speakers installed in bulkheads), gas for the $10k new fireplace installed, new garden door, custom walk-in floor level trough shower with niches and custom trough style shower head, and the list goes on and on and on. Your project was something right out of a magazine. Would have been a beautiful finished piece of art. Unfortunately, you fail to mention that I gave you and your husband an up-dated invoice that had nearly $60k outstanding and owing to current date. He gave me $10k and said he was trying to come up with some more and would let me know asap. We contined working for another 10-12 days and then asked how the monies were coming along. He said he would let me know asap. Personally, I was worried as I am not a huge company that can finance projects for a long time. I simply told Jeff that I would need to hold off on any further work being done until we straightened out some money issues. Again, we are not talking pennies and Jeff was also being laid off his job at the time and was starting a new job with substantially less pay (his words). Also, I pay all my workers and sub-trades on a weekly base so I collect funds as we proceed so to pay them. All trades and workers were paid 100% in full, even though I am still at a loss of nearly $25k out of pocket on your project. Hopefully things got better for you and Jeff and were able to complete your dream basement.

Bathroom Fan Installation

Todd was helpful and knowledgeable regarding the bathroom fan installation, and his staff installed the product efficiently and was very friendly. He provided tips for maintenance and when the fan stopped working a few weeks later (due to manufacturer defect) he returned promptly to install a new motor. Overall, I have no hesitation recommending Todd, and will call him again in the future. Thanks so much!

Bathroom Shower Renovation

The fixture in my old shower konked out so I decided to get the complete shower replaced instead of trying to find tile to match up where old tile would have to be removed in order to replace fixture. From the first time I spoke to Todd, the owner of the company, I knew he had the experience I needed. He gave me a quote over the phone, based on me telling him what the problem was. He then came out to see the problem to confirm what needed to be done & the quote amount was the same. He met my husband who was born with Juvenile Rhematoid Arthritis & has had both ankles, knees, hips & shoulders replaced. When I told him that my husband has difficult getting his leg over the current bathtub, he advised we could replace the tub with a shower unit/floor instead & if we are tearing out old anyway, that he could get a price on this & will call me back. When he called me the next day he said the shower floor/unit & extra tiles/grouting needed would cost $320 more, which was his cost, not including labour. I told him due to being on a tight budget, we will just go with the tub & the original quote. Later that evening, I spoke with Todd on the phone & he said based on meeting my husband, he could see that the shower instead of tub, would be the best option for him; however, he understands my budget requirements so he would like to split the cost (of $320) with me so I would only have to pay $160 to get the shower unit & extra tiling needed. I was so shocked that Todd would notice my husband's needs, & that he would be willing to cover 1/2 of the cost of the tiling & shower unit. I was very impressed by his thoughtfulness. I decided to take him up on the offer & have him do the shower instead of tub. He was always very pleasant to deal with & really knows his "stuff". I am very happy with the job he did; the staff made sure to clean up & take away all debris from the reno & based on research I did, I feel the price he charged for the work done was resonable. He tore out old tub, tiles, drywall, fixture & replaced it with mold resistant drywall, new tile from floor to ceiling, new MOEN fixture, 2 ceramic shelves, repared bathroom wall & securely put back safety bar for my husband to hold onto in shower, All of this was done for $1850.00. He did the job on time & with good quality. I am happy to recommend T.D.C Contracting for bathroom/shower renovation & will definetely call Todd for future renovation projects as he doesn't just do bathrooms. I know I will need work of some kind done in my home in the future so will be giving Todd a call again.
