spot repair of leaky slate roof

We were referred to Victor by another roofing co that did not do slate repair in our area. We were fully satisfied with the price, quality and professionalism. We pushed hard to get a guarantee on the work (even though it was a repair) and it was provided. As a sidenote - as a woman I find many contractors condescending/patronizing, Victor is not at all...which ups the trust factor for me. Highly recommended.

Thx Nataliya.
Usually it is hard to provide customers with warranties for this type of repair. Slate is a long lasting material that stays for hundreds years. To find a small crack between the tiles you need to go through the whole side. Not every contractor will do this as far as he can make more damage on a way than he will fix.. In your case you were given 3 years warranty. Hope it is a good statement for the quality of the job I provided.
Sleep safe.

Slate Roofing

We've had a lot of trouble finding a good slate roofer for our century home... until we found Victor. He's honest, fair, and hardworking. I have a lot of confidence in Victor's work -- and he stands behind his work with a solid guarantee. I highly recommend A-Line.

As I mentioned in an above response, it is hard to warrantied a repair job with the slate material. There are lots of loose tiles along the way that has to be taking care of even before you get to the actual spot of damage. If you do not fix it now- customer will call you later and will ask for an explainations. This is a very thorough job and require lots of consideratin and time. Much easier would be to recommend customer to rip the slate roof and install shingles instead. However, we stay behind the job we perform and most of the time are pretty confident in an outcomes of our repairs.
Thx and sleep safe.

Roof reshingling

Victor is a very direct, no bull... type of guy. When he came to give me estimate he climbed the roof, explained what needed to be done, showed me video of the roof, and mentioned there could be some additional cost if plywood was damaged. A-line started the work within a week or so after we signed the contract. They removed two layers of old shingles, installed new ones, replaced most of the flashing and left the job site very clean. The shingles were laid in consistent/straight lines (looks much better then neoghbours' roofs). Also A-line installed additional flashing with larger drip edge to protect a wall that in the past had some leaks from the roof and brick damage.

$3,400.00

Thx Mike for your review. There was no much of a complications with your roof. Everything was pretty straight forward. Ice and water membrane, eave starters, whole roof in synthetic underlayment, ice and water membrane on a parapet walls and new custom bent metal flashing with locks. I am not much confident though if that extended metal with outside lips will be a long lasting solution for your brick wall at the front... However, you asked us to do that and it was done. Hope it will work good for you.
Thx.

Roof Repair

I wish all contractors were as responsive and competent as Victor of A-Line Contractors. He returned my call within an hour to discuss some missing shingles on my roof, that were now under a layer of ice. After I sent Victor some pictures before it snowed with details. He promptly sent me an estimate which was in line with what I had expected. There were other "BIG" roofing companies that clearly either tried to gouge me, or tell me they didn't want a small job by inflating the estimate. Even the company who installed my roof 3 years ago, ignored my six attempts at contact, via phone, cell, email and website. But not Victor. He even came out to repair my roof on Boxing day, at the same rate.
It was a very eye opening experience, as Victor took pictures and video's before and after the repair. It showed me where the original installer (I will review them again tonight) cut corners and didn't take the time to properly install the shingles in the first place. Many nails were not located in the proper locations, which contribute to easier shingle damage. Victor repaired what we could see, as most of the roof was still under ice. (BTW. the shingle damage occurred before the snow and ice). I called Victor in for one location repair. When Victor was done, he found a total of 4 spots that needed attention, which he repaired. While I'm not looking forward to more repairs, I will be calling in Victor to make them. A solid contractor that I would highly recommend to anyone.

As I said, contractor who is charging cheap money for the fast job not necessarily doing it good. Some contractors goes by the job volume( like in your case- few houses on the same street in one day. What do you think the quality of this job would be?). Other, shooting rediculously big prices for doing only one job. It is always a challenge to find a right choice between these roofing sharks.
A- line general contractors always looking forward to assist you with any advice or issues reguarding your roof.
Thx.

Victor, was professional and prompt. he came out on a Sunday to give me a quote and completed the work very shortly thereafter. He made recommendations regarding attic insulation and other things that needed to be done. I appreciate knowing the whole story and Victor provides that. Good job in my opinion.

You absolutely right!! No hidden stories! Everything up front!!
I know that sometimes customers think that the more you recomend or notice on a roof that has to be fixed, the more you robbing them for money. However, if you think twice and from different perspective- it is better to listen and to prioritize the repair job now and with the same contractor ( if he is knowledgable), rather than to be charged by differrent contractors twice or three times more and not knowing for what. In addition, it does not look professional if contractor did a repair job and knowingly did not accentuate the remaining problems.
The more job one contractor perform, the more is your roof warrantied.

roof repair

What a great experience! Victor contacted me within 24 hours. He came stopped by to take a look on a Saturday and the job was completed on a Tuesday. After he talked to my neighbours and I about the problem and what needs to be done, I hired him on the spot. Then I received a detailed estimate with what needed to be done. Victor took his time on a cold day to fix my leak above my fireplace as a result of a poor flashing job done by another roofer . He answered all questions and even showed me pictures and took a video of what he did. Victor is extremely hard working, friendly and smart. I’m confident that he fixed my problem.
I have no problem recommend A-Line General Contractors to my friends and co-workers.

Thx Lori for your review.
Chimney issues are the most common problems. But in your case i was honestly surprised. The last contractor did a great job with a metal flashing arround it. Not every day you can find the metal work like this. However, as you did see from the video i did, 'not all the gold that glitters.' Ice and water membrane is an essential part of the material to be installed arround the chimney and valleys. By only puting nice metal arround the chimney without inspecting and locating the reasons of the leaks can compromise the whole job. Again, it is all depends on how experienced the contractor is and on how good is his expertise.
Most of the repair jobs goes without any warranty for it. This is why it is such a profitable business for many "professionals". No reasonable contractors willing to take responsibilities for other contractors mistakes. If one spot is leaking- there can be more. In addition, contractor never know for 100% the condition of the rest of the roof. By knowing this most of the repair guys washing their hands away if something happening after their repair visits. They just claim that there is no warranty for the repair. That is why by giving the warranty for the job i did i am pretty much confident of what and how i am doing it.
Thx Lori.

Roof repair

Victor was recommended by a friend who is a contractor. He set up an appointment to come and inspect the roof to determine exactly what had to be done, arrived as arranged, checked the roof from both inside the attic and outside and then explained exactly what had to be repaired. He provided a formal written quote and arranged to come back within only a few days to get things done. The work was done quickly, professionally and on budget. We were definitely impressed and would highly recommend A-Line.

Thank you Scott for the review.
Usual problem where roof meets the wall with a siding. Especialy if the roof being already re-roofed. Nobody bother to do what i did from the first time- no time or not enough money, or simply lazy.... If you do not stipulate from the very beginning of the job to take a proper attention to these spots- contractors will not bother..
Thx.

Roof repair, new eaves, side window new shingles

I would highly recommend Victor and his crew. They are skilled, knowledgeable, well priced and very transparent on the work they perform.

We had just moved into a new place in Rosedale and started to experience a leak in the roof. Also, realized that our eaves were in bad shape.

We called a few roofers - Victor was the only one who provided a thorough inspection (took the time to get on the 3 storey roof, took pictures and explained the issue(s)). On the eaves, he suggested a solution that maintained the look of a 100 year plus rosedale house without going overboard (as others were trying to do).

The crew's execution was flawless - guys came on time, took pictures of the work they did so I could see from my office computer how things progressed and cleaned up after them. Best of all, Victor remained accessible after the job for questions/concerns.
