Ground Up Renovations

This company did inside work for us recently. It was a constant battle to get them to show up (several no shows), and when they did, it was late morning. That resulted in the main guy staying late into the evening some times, disrupting our family's dinner plans (mostly with his wanting to chat, not with his work!). He's a really nice guy, and we did not want to give him a bad review, but as he got behind schedule, he rushed the finishing touches, resulting in a less than stellar-looking final product.

We had Jason L. (from Port Perry, not the other company from Wasaga with the same name) do a lot of work for us. Several large projects over several months. At first, we found him to be such a nice guy and we really loved him, but once he had our deposit, we felt he started being evasive and he delayed our project several times (MONTHS), always having "good reasons" (though I found out later that these same reasons were used with others he worked with).

I will not go into details, but I would not recommend working with him, as I felt he was dishonest on numerous occasions, and it seemed he rarely recalled our conversations the same way we did, even playing me and my spouse off of each other when we weren't together.
Even when we had things in writing, he would CLAIM we (or he and my spouse) had had a conversation that had changed the details, when we had not. We had changed our minds on some things, so we figured these were mis-understandings/lack of recall on his part, so we let a lot of these go. But eventually, this happened so frequently that Jason went from a nice lovable guy, to a guy I would sadly NEVER recommend, no matter how simple and straightforward the project was.

I contacted Jason at Ground Up Renovations after reading an outstanding review of his services at HomeStars. I was looking for a contractor to work with us through a very extensive renovation and addition of our home. Jason was professional and supportive from our first meeting, providing ideas and guidance as we worked through the initial stages of the project.

Though our build was delayed by factors outside of Ground Up's control and we were forced to start in December of the coldest winter in 20 years, Jason and his crew were ready and enthusiastic. They worked tirelessly in difficult conditions and by April we had a newly and beautifully finished second storey on our home and a completely renovated main floor. Ground Up's work is meticulous - Jason and his crew take great pride in the quality of their work and it shows in the wonderful finishes in our home.

Ground Up was also very supportive and understanding of our desire to stay in our home through the build. However, despite the additional challenges of having us living in their work site, Jason's crew were always positive and helpful. They are a wonderful group of people and we couldn't have asked for a better atmosphere in our home. They have made what could have been a stressful situation, very easy.

Everything about our experience with Ground Up has been extremely positive and the outcome is outstanding. We are beyond pleased with our new home and would recommend Ground Up for any renovation project.

I am a first time home owner & my new (old) house needed a back deck badly. I called numerous deck contractors from Toronto for quotes. Most didn't bother to return my calls.
Of the few that did get back 2 made appointments to do an estimate & never showed & 2 actually made it for a quote. After hearing the astoundingly high prices I started looking outside of Toronto. I found Jason's web site & loved his work so I gave him a call. Well he came down from Durham region & gave me a quote that was at least 1/2 of the Toronto quotes & that included travel time & gas!. He was great to work with. We tweaked the design of the deck & pergola a few times till I had exactly what I wanted. The job was done quickly & efficiently. Jason is a perfectionist & is shows in every inch of this deck.
He even helped me install a new kitchen faucet while he was here. I'm thinking of doing an extension on my little house next year & will be contacting Jason for the job.
