Worst Company EVER!

Worst company I have ever dealt with. From day one of having the systems installed we have had billing issues!!! Once the billing issue was fixed they sent me to collections for an amount that was not even due yet. I demanded they take their systems back and they came back at me with a $23,000 bill which is triple what the systems are worth!!! Or we can buyout the systems and keep them for $16,000. This is now in the hands of the BBB. I have quoted systems with other companies and for a furnace, ac and tankless water heater. Quotes have been around the $8000 range. Stay away from this company!!!!!

Furnace and Thermostat

A couple weeks ago, our furnace started having a problem. The furnace only runs for a couple minutes every time it’s on and turns off automatically and temperature does not reach the preset temperature in the thermostat. The house was cold during the mid-night (3AM). At the beginning, I thought it was the thermostat, so I tried to knock it and accidental broke it. Since I joint a special program a couple years ago, the thermostat was installed by their contractor. I call the program they sent a technician from Sandpiper Energy Solutions to my house to check it up. The technician quickly figured out the issue was the furnace, not the thermostat. He fixed the furnace and said he needed to replace the thermostat too, but he didn’t have it with him. He would be back in an hour with the new one. I checked the price for the same model online, it was about $130 in homedepot and I can simply pulled out the broken one and clip on the new one. But since the contractor would bring a new one and they are with the special program, it would save me a trip to the store. One hour later, he came back and replaced the broken thermostat and told me the thermostat costed $550, but he got me a deal of $208 plus tax. I was shocked by the price but paid the price anyway together with the price for fixing the furnace since I thought this contractor was with the special program. I thought I have to order this “specical” thermostat not some random ones I can buy from the market. Later, I called the program and they said the fair market price was $130. They were also surprised by the contractor’s price for thermostat. But there was nothing they can do about it. This experience with this contractor was extremely uncomfortable. I can't believe this contractor told me the thermostat would cost $550 when the market price is only $130 and offered a “good deal” at $80 above market price. I am sure wouldn’t recommend this company to anyone.

Furnace, AC & Hot Water Replacement

05/02/2016 - So just edited my review and increased my score to 8. I had to call the company to get the humidity issue fixed, and one of their contractors came out and tweaked some settings. Less than a minute after he left, a manager called to see how everything was going and if there was anything else. Seriously good people. Cant give a higher rating because some of the problems should never have happened, but their after-sales service is 1st class.

Original review:
The sales guy from Sandpiper did an awesome job. I had Kyle from Sandpiper out to my place to quote the replacement for a 30yo Furnace, Aircon and Hot Water service. I had some ambitious plans to relocate the HVAC, and Kyle gave me the straight facts about the prohibitive cost of what I wanted to do. I really appreciated the honest approach and advice, instead of selling me something I didn't need.

Eventually, I settled for a straight replacement of my old things, and they were able to install the same week. Offered me 0% financing and 10 year parts and labour warranty.

It seems that they have some good and bad installers (who are subcontractors and not employees of Sandpiper)
The plumber did a great job with the hot water service (a tankless model on the wall) and kept the piping, vents and wiring out the way. Saved me a heap of space in the laundry and everything looks really neat.

The Furnace and Aircon guys did some good and some bad work. The new furnace and AC was installed in a very 'tight' way, making a huge improvement to the floorspace. My general contractor who was doing a renovation upstairs commented on how good the install was.

A few weeks later however, we noticed some problems with the moisture levels in the house, which had dropped so much our brand new (and very expensive!) hardwood was shrinking. After taking a closer look at the whole-home humidifier, it was obvious that this was poorly installed. There was a huge tear in the plastic bypass duct. The connection to the supply vent was unsealed (see attached picture) and the alignment of the water tray spout meant half the humidifier pad was dry.

Generally, these guys were pretty good and I would recommend them. They just need to up the quality on some parts of their install!

Hot Water Heater

When looking to upgrade our old water heater, we turned to Sand Piper Energy. They offered competitive pricing (under 15$ a month) and were able to provide installation services and warranty. They were able to install the unit within a couple days and were very pleasant.
