I called Dennis to install my Starlink internet dish in April 2023. I asked him for a quote over the phone. He said it would cost $400, and despite taking my email, did not send me a quote. The $400 sounded reasonable to me so I booked an appointment for my cottage for May 2023.

I told Dennis that we had an Xplornet dish and that would need to come down. He agreed. I asked him to leave me the dish, which he did not. He ended up taking it and only leaving me the mount for the dish.

Following the installation I was surprised to get an invoice for almost $800 despite the quote. There was no indication ever given by Dennis that the amount would be double what was quoted, until the invoice was received.

Mind you, I also confirmed the amount with Dennis over the phone the day he went to my cottage on May 9, 2023. I asked him again for the price, after he had completed the job and he said $400.

Getting an invoice for $800 was therefore very surprising and shocking.

In addition to charging me an outrageous fee, Dennis and his team left a long wound up wire for the Starlink dish on the inside of my home. They did not bother to cut the wire to specification. They simply expect me to keep a large wound up wire on the inside of my home forever. I brought this up to Dennis after and I was met by excuses. Many other professionals would have been able to cut the wire to specification.

While removing the Xplornet dish, Dennis and his team did not properly repair my roof. When I raised this issue, he claimed that he did not even remove my Xplornet dish and that he would have remembered. He did in fact remove the dish, take the dish with him, and not patch up the roof.

As such, I paid him what he quoted (400) plus tax. To date, he has refused to come out to my cottage and fix any of the outstanding issues. Our home is a 2022 new build and we had installed 40 year shingles which we now have to pay out of pocket for someone else to repair.

We hired Dennis because he is from Haliburton and we wanted to foster a sense of community and hire a local individual. In retrospect this was a mistake. Not only did he botch the job, he has poor customer service skills, and he over charged us double without any indication that this would be the case, and without fixing any of the above-mentioned issues.

He has also made allegations about me trying to stiff him instead of trying to fix the problems mentioned, have better communication skills, provide a proper quote etc. He has also threatened to sue me, and take me to collections.

This is all very unprofessional behaviour.

Please think twice before you call this company.

The 4 that came out to install my system were courteous and very quick in doing the installation. There were some hiccups along the way with computer issues, but not the company's fault. Everything is up and running and I am very satisfied with the job that was done.

Home security system for doors, windows, motion, fire and temperature. Monitored for all issues and OPP are called out when needed.

Battery life could be an issue beyond a year with replacement cost being about $100. Must have land phone line connected so at the cottage you have to add that cost.
