I discovered what I thought could be a serious mold issue in back bedrooms of my home. The hatch door to my attic was covered in mold, and cIondensation. I had already wiped down the walls in the bedroom that had mold. As I always do now, I check Homestars for any work I need to contract out, as I've had nothing but good experiences with the contractors I've used. Aristides, from Cda Restoration, came out assessed the situation, and much to my surprise the immediate fix was to replace the attic door, add insulation in the attic, and install some fans in both bedrooms. The issue causing the mold was condensation, and the attic door was not sufficient to seal out airflow between bedroom and attic. Arisitede's said the mold situation should resolve itself with these few fixes. There was no need for his company to come in and do a mold removal job. He added, if the mold persisted after I have fixed what he recommended then, and only then the next steps would be to tear down bedroom exterior walls, and clean up, put new insulation, and new drywall. What i appreciated was his honesty, and integrity. It would have been too easy for him to tell me we have to come in do the mold removal and tear down work in bedrooms, and i would have been none the wiser whether that was required or not. I feel much better taking these initial steps, and as last resort doing an reconstructive work if required. The mold situation in my instance was exterior mold, and hadn't progressed to serious health levels. A good wall scrubbing with a mold removal product was all that was required.
