After saving money for a few years, I finally had enough for a new garage. As I was researching companies, I came across the Gecko Projects reviews on the HomeStars website. I contacted Derrick and he got back to me right away which was followed by a site visit. After talking for 20 minutes, I knew that Gecko was the company that I wanted to build the garage. We ironed out all the details and as I was preparing for the garage, I realized that the fence needed replacement. So Derrick and his crew installed a great new fence and a garage at the same time. The projects were completed on time and on budget and there were no hidden costs involved. I couldn't be happier with the final products and I am very impressed with the quality and the workmanship and their attention to detail. If any other projects come up in the future I know that I don't need to shop around.

A neighbor a few doors down was getting a brand new garage. We happened to need siding, so I walked over and chatted with the guys to see what their pricing was like and weather they would even do JUST the siding.
I got Derrick's contact info and let him know we had been needing to FINALLY finish our garage. Not only was he professional and kind but he was also understanding and very accommodating.
Within 1 week of contacting him, we were able to get a quote and have the siding completed. The team was fast, efficient, and friendly! Great quality work.

We hired Derrick from Gecko Project to build our garage. We built a 24x24 garage with insulation and forced air heating and couldn’t be happier. Derrick was great to work with from the beginning, was very personable and always quick to respond. He was able to give us a quote with a breakdown of everything we were getting and went above and beyond to help us with building a gate, extra steps in and outside the garage and a few other extras for us as well. He is definitely proud of his work and it shows as he thinks about what he likes in his garage and just adds it to his packages such as extra lights and such which is much appreciated. His prices are fair and the workmanship is top notch. Once the work started, the garage was up in only week or so. Always provided updates and never tried to nickel and dime us. Very knowledgeable with any questions we had and he was willing to provide assistance whenever needed. We are so happy with our garage and we strongly recommend Derrick and his crew if you need a new garage or to replace an old one, you will be getting the best.

I contacted Derrick in the summer to get a quote and he called me back within 2 days and arranged to come out to do an estimate. I had called another company as well but didn't get a good first impression. I had the quote from Derrick emailed to me within a couple days. I think the quote was reasonable and the nice thing was that in his email Derrick stated that "the cost to build your garage WILL NOT change during the build unless you request a change in the scope of the project that differs from the agreed upon terms". Now, with that being said, I did make some changes. Some of them last minute which Derrick had no problems accommodating! But, he was correct, the price of the quote didn't change. For example, I wanted to add a light fixture above the garage door so I could install a motion detector. He instead offered a better solution of installing a timer switch in the garage that I could program. Very nice suggestion and it didn't change the price of the quote. Another nice thing was that I had an old 4ft x 10ft shed that needed to be demolished or moved. He offered( at no additional charge) to have his guys come over and tear it down and remove it for me! Also, I had to remove a portion of my fence(which again, his guys helped me tear down and remove)so he installed some temporary fencing during construction to keep anyone from coming into my yard. It was just the little things that he did to accommodate me and it was also nice to hear when I asked " how much extra money will it be to do that" that his response was "nothing, no extra"!!
He was extremely quick to respond either by phone, email or text. His crew is great. They did an excellent job constructing the garage and cleanup of the site was also well done! And fast!! After the concrete set they had the garage built in 2 days minus the garage door(which his guys came over the next the day and installed) and the eavestrough( which his guys came over 2 days after it was built and completed eavestrough). Derrick was great with giving me suggestions as to what to add or things that weren't necessarily worth the added cost( having a gas line installed for a gas heater) for my particular situation. The components they used definitely seem top quality( garage door motor, switches, etc.).
My only problem is that I'll probably only build one garage in my life so I won't be able to use them again!!!! I highly recommend Derrick and Gecko Projects!

Derrick was very responsive, made sure everything was clear in the quote, committed to the price with no changes and then met our very aggressive schedule.  
It was remarkable how quickly the garage was built once the concrete had cured.
Derrick was very easy to work with and always quick to respond to our questions or requests. For example, when we were out of  town he sent photos regularly of the progress and when we wanted to make sure the walkway would be safe for kids on Halloween, he quickly had the forms removed, brought in soil and contoured it to make it safe.
It was a pleasure working with Derrick and Gecko and we highly recommend them.

I'm not usually one to write reviews, but our decision to contact Gecko was initially based on the reviews I read, and the information on their website. I decided to write this, in the hope that if someone is on the fence with their decision, their garage build will be as pleasant an experience as ours was.

We did talk to a couple of other contractors, and while it's true, as stated above, that I was already leaning towards Gecko, I found talking to Derrick just confirmed my initial feelings. I had a couple of ideas that were a little out of the norm, and at least one contractor tried to talk me out of them. Derrick listened to what I had in mind, and why, and said it was doable, made sense with our yard layout, and what I wanted to do in the garage. I suppose one could think that agreeing to everything might be a way to get the job, but it became apparent this wasn't the case. Later, I was talking to Derrick about something I was planning on doing myself. He took the time to explain why it might not be a good idea. Saved me time, money, and some possible headaches down the road. A garage and an education.

We procrastinated on our decision to shop for a contractor and get started, until I realized we were getting towards the end of the building season. Derrick was able to fit us in, before the snow should have started falling. Unfortunately, we did get some early snow and cold weather, and it affected the concrete pour schedule by a few days, but the garage was still completed well within the promised time. And, I was comfortable with the fact that they waited for the right temperature to pour the concrete, so it wouldn't be adversely affected.

Our garage is 22'X24', placed width wise on an approximately 25' yard. It required a reverse gable roof for clearance, as well as fire rated side walls. There was a fence across the back that had to be removed, as well as an older shed. As well, there were a large and medium tree that had to go. Derrick also had his arborist grind and remove a stump from a tree that had blown over previously. All this was completed very quickly, making room for the concrete contractors.

The day Derrick's crew were scheduled to begin construction, my initial thought was "I sure hope this goes as smoothly and quickly as promised." At 8:00 am we had a bare concrete floor. I spent the rest of the day thinking "Holy crap, we've got walls." "Holy crap. the rafters are up." etc.etc. By 5:00 pm, the garage was up, shingled, and sided. Part of the crew was back the next morning to insulate and drywall the two fire rated walls as required, and the electrician hooked up the electrical panel. Everyone was gone by noon. The work site was clean, the garage swept, and the only way you could tell they had been there was the fact there was a garage today, where there wasn't one yesterday.

It was a few days before the garage door and opener were installed, but that was no problem, as we couldn't park inside yet as the concrete had not yet had time to complete curing, as required.

I chatted with the building and electrical inspectors when they performed their inspections, and they had no concerns, whatsoever. I said to one of them "That was quick." and his reply was "It's pretty simple when it's done by a reputable contractor."

All in all, we couldn't have been happier. Great communication, from start to finish. Constant updates, if there were any scheduling changes due to weather, etc., and everything still completed well within the promised time frame. Our #1 wish, besides a quality garage, obviously, was a minimum amount of time and disruption, and we were pleasantly surprised that it was even less than we'd expected or hoped for.

The crew was actually a pleasure to watch work, if you're into that kind of thing. (I didn't spend the WHOLE day watching, as I didn't want anyone feeling like I was looking over their shoulder.) Before I was injured, I spent over 30 years as a firefighter, and always felt that a crew that worked together for a long time was much more efficient. And that's what Derrick's team reminded me of. No muss, no fuss. Everyone doing their thing without getting in each others way, working together when required, no sense of urgency, but efficient and rapid progress. The truth is, when I was younger (and before I was hurt) I probably would have endeavored to build the garage myself, but I'm sure I'd still be working on it, and would have had way more hassles than doing it with Gecko.

If you got this far, I'm sorry, I didn't plan on it being this long. We couldn't have been happier with the whole process, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Derrick and Gecko to family or friends, or use them again if we needed to build another garage.

P.S. - I've attached a few pictures. I wish I had taken pics every hour or two. At 8:00 am there was a bare concrete floor. The first picture was taken at noon. The next at around 4:00 pm. The last 2 at around 5:00 pm, after everyone had left for the day. This was all the same day, the first day. As I said above, they were back the next morning to finish up and tidy up.

Derrick and his team did a fantastic job for us on our garage project this summer. It was not an easy build as it was on a sloped location and the services had to be trenched a long way from the house to the garage. The weather this spring was terrible and added to the difficulty and pushed out the timing. Throughout the project, Derrick did a great job of keeping us up to date as to what was going on. He was always accessible via phone or email when he wasn’t on site. His team was very organized, professional, and tidy. Derek was fair with the original quote and any adjustments that we made to the build. Overall, we are extremely pleased with our garage and get compliments frequently. I got several quotes to have a double garage built and a fence replaced. The prices were all within the same range so my decision to go with Gecko came down to:
1. Derrick’s friendly personality
2. Derrick’s honesty and breadth of knowledge
3. The inclusion of details that some of the other contractors left out
4. Derrick promised me I would have a garage built by winter. Other contractors weren’t sure about the timing because the concrete companies get so busy towards the end of the season that it is hard to know when anyone would be able to come. Some contractors said I might not be able to have it done until the spring.

The concrete part of the job did take the longest but it was for the standard reasons (build, pour, wait, build, pour, wait). Once the concrete was done the garage structure was almost fully built in one day, and then the fence was done the following day. Super fast.

The team was very courteous and friendly. My daughter had a tiny tree sapling given to her, which we had planted in the ground in the summer. That little tree went undisturbed through the entire process. There were machines and shovels and work boots in the yard but nothing trampled the tree. (Now we just have to hope it survives the winter.)

Excellent, uncompromising, quality work. I recommend Gecko Projects without hesitation.

We came across Gecko projects and Derek at the home show in Calgary in while getting quotes we got back in touch with Derek as various other quotes were through the roof, or too cheap to make you wonder...

Derek came by personally and was very pleasant and honest, pointing some flaws with other quotes and giving the truth about requirements in Mahogany. Along with that, his pricing was ideal and unlike other builders (as he pointed out) everything was "extra" which meant more cost. Gecko projects however just includes most "extra" as a base item.

Communication was always great, even if things could be off by a day or 2. The Gecko team managed to squeeze in pouring our pad with off weather and as soon as they could start to build they were all there. I think within a day, we had walls, a roof and half of the siding up and the shingles down...

literally, if you blink you might miss your garage getting built!
