Replacement of Furnace and Hot Water Tank
My wife and I interviewed 4 heating companies and chose Coretemp to install a high efficiency furnace (Lennox SLP98UH070XV36B) and a tankless water heater (Rinnai RU98i). We are extremely glad we did as we are very satisfied with both products. The installation of both took place last April. At that time we were extremely impressed with the service and workmanship of Coretemp. We are writing this review now, as the new furnace was not used much last spring. We wanted to give Richard and his staff a truthful and superlative review which is only possible after having run the furnace for a couple of months in some really cold weather.
Our house is 100 years old. It has three stories plus a basement. Anyone living in such a house knows how hard it is to get even heat distribution throughout the home and how hot the third floor can be when trying to heat the other floors appropriately. We don’t have this problem anymore. Richard suggested an upgrade from our mid-efficiency furnace to a high-efficiency one with variable-capacity. He sized the new unit correctly – the older one was oversized. Whereas the old furnace noisily and continuously cycled on/off thus blowing huge and noticeable gusts out the vents, the Lennox is extremely quiet and warms our rooms without gale force. We don’t have a problem with the third floor. Our house is amazingly comfortable. Concerning the installation of the Lennox, Richard is second to none. Richard made very little mess in the basement despite the finished ceiling – no mean feat as he ran 15 ft of air pipes to an outside wall and snaked condensate piping 20 ft to another utility room which had a drain. Lastly, we appreciated that Coretemp submitted the Ontario energy rebate forms on our behalf.
Concerning the Rinnai which replaced a traditional hot water tank, we couldn’t be more satisfied. Richard assured us that the unit would provide ample water for our needs and that it would be very quiet (a consideration as it is beside a basement bedroom). This is so on both counts. He sized it correctly and hot water is more plentiful and continuous, and actually much quicker to obtain on the second floor than with the conventional tank. My wife was a bit dubious about going tankless but she is a believer now. Richard hired Tom at TMAC Heating and Air Conditioning to run the new gas line to the Rinnai. Again, another professional who is expert at his job. Tom ran the line outside the house, re-jigging the gas unit/meter to fit the pipe. The unit with additional pipe as well as the pipe running along the house in a mutual laneway are extremely unobtrusive and neat looking. We would hire Tom again if the need arose.
It was a pleasure dealing with Coretemp, a family company which delivers what it promises and then some. The job was done when scheduled, on time, and at the quoted price. Richard himself did the installation with 2 assistants who were hard-working and polite and clearly respected and liked their employer. Any mess was cleaned up at the end of each day of our two day install. Richard could be reached by cell before and after the install to answer any questions or concerns. His wife, Janice, was a pleasure to deal with by email as she manages the office. We highly recommend Coretemp and wish everyone connected with it continued success.
