Window/door Replacement

The group at HSHI are very professional, clean, and efficient. We replaced 16 windows and the front door. From the time they came out to quote to the completion of the job, everything was handled very well and we are very pleased with the outcome. I would highly recommend them to anyone and feel very confident in doing so.

Window replacements

We have used House Smart twice over in getting all our windows replaced. Out of 4 quotes, the H.S. sales rep gave the best, most informative presentation and no waiting for the prices. The installers were very professional and proficient. Our new windows not only look great but are much more energy efficient. We would highly recommend House Smart to anyone.

living room windows

The initial visit for a quote was a bit nerve-wracking as the company agent was speaking to me in a condescending way. However the window technician who came to replace our leaky windows was polite, professional and committed to providing the best products & service. So I would highly recommend this company to my family & friends.

Replaced 15 windows and a patio door with VinylTek

Scheduled appointment in 1 week to get a quote. Initially we wanted to go with one product, but after doing our research we changed our mind to VinylTech with 3E glass. (BTW, we had quotes from 5 companies and House Smart price was very competitive). Greg was kind enough to explain over and over again the difference in quality of the products chose and the difference in glass ratings. He always reassured that no matter what product we were going to chose - it will be backed by Home Smart lifetime warranty.
It took about 8-9 weeks to have our windows manufactured and only 1 day to have them installed in our house. Installers were quick, professional and polite. I have not heard a single swear word from them!
At the end of the day we made a walkthrough with Jason and he showed us how to operate the windows properly, checked the windows' quality, etc. The next day we received our instructions / final statement by email. So, overall it was quick, hassle-free, easy project for us.

Why did I put 4 stars and not 5 for my satisfaction with the company? For 2 reasons:
1) I found 2 nails in the grass (one might thing - not a big deal, but my children run barefoot in the backyard, so it was kind of important to us)
2) they removed and put back the existing vertical blinds for our patio door . When the next day I tried to open the blinds they did not work properly. I called the office and they could send somebody only in 3-4 weeks to check on the issue. I managed the fix the problem myself (it was an easy fix). Again, not a big deal, but you might need to know.

Overall: I would highly recommend this company and the product (VinylTek windows) as both are great!

UPDATE: 6 months later. VinylTek windows installed by HouseSmart is an amazing product! They keep heat inside when it is cold and keep house cool when it is hot outside. I turned down all our thermostats as house is really, really warm now, during the winter time.

Replace 13 windows, 2 doors

We bought a house built in 1988 that had already had 6 windows replaced by House Smart. They looked so much nicer than the remaining old windows that we decided to do the rest of the windows. The quote appointment happened fairly quickly, and we got the quote on the spot. We wanted one window cut down and one door cut up and one door changed from a slider to French doors in addition the windows that were just straight replacements. The quote was reasonable for the amount of work. The windows are nice, but the frames are quite large compared to metal framed windows, so that takes a little getting used to. We got the "Atrium" vinyl windows. Also, it took 8 weeks after the quote to get the windows installed. It wasn't a problem for our timeline, just noting the wait period. The work was done all in one day with a team of 7 men. They tried very hard to keep the house clean and safe as they worked. The clean up wasn't perfect, but was quite good considering the mess of replacing windows and doors.

It's only been one day since the install, without any rain. So, I'll come back and update the review if any leaks appear. So far, they look great and work well.

Maybe ok if nothing goes wrong (on-going issue)

We replaced windows for the entire house (all 29 windows), and new windows and patio door cut in.

The windows were replaced during the winter, and we were assured by Greg (sales person) and Jason (installer) that there would be no problems installing the window then and they told us about how experienced they were and they great warranty.

Now the window is leaking, and from the initial complaint (June 17 2016), they never phoned back, and postponed and cancelled two appointments last week. We are told we need to paint the house to stop the window from leaking.

I never thought a new window would leak, and "painting the house" is the solution for a window to stop leaking.

My house never had any problems with leak regardless of whether it had a new coat of paint or not. One would think that the seal, board, windows, waterproofing would have more to do with a leak caused by new set of windows. It took them a very long time to get back to us before, I really hope that I hear back soon, and a more plausible answer than "paint your walls".

Update Jan 12 2017
We ended up painting our whole house in the summer using a professional painter, and finally got them to come and straighten out the twisted trim boards in the fall. I was told that a bad receptionist lost all the phone calls and emails. Window leaked again, and heard nothing back for another month - the bad receptionist was gone, but still unanswered emails.

We had two visits, and the dining room window issue is not resolved. I have been getting very regular and insistent phone calls to update the review.

At this point, based on the fact that the trim boards are eventually dealt with, and except for the dining room window, other windows do not leak, and it works, I am increasing the rating to 3 stars, from 1 star.
- positives: most windows work, except for 1, and trim boards eventually dealt with, months later and me spending money on unscheduled painting of the house
- negatives: very slow response/lost email/forgotten correspondence (verbal agreement on dropping by next week type things), dining room window issue still not fixed. I am told it is a mystery, but a lot of silicon should hold it up. As this area did not leak before the window renovation, I would like a proper investigation.

Greg has promised to look into the issue.

I like the crew, Jason and the guys.
Found owner Brian very difficult to deal with - I wish he actually pick up the phone and fix the problems as
Greg has been a lot more reasonable, and better at communicating. Too bad he has been away when the installation actually happened

If considering this company:
- simple window replacement might be the best - we were going to do work in two stages (little bit in the winter, and rest in the spring) but changed our minds and decided to get then all done in the winter while the other renovation was going on. There was a lot of miscommunication
- make sure primed trim boards are properly primed (we had exposed wood where the cut was made)
- if anything goes wrong, the service call may get lost or take forever, so hope for the best. If nothing went wrong, I would have given a lot higher rating.

House Smart installed this customer’s windows with 1x4 trim in January 2016. The trim was pine wood, primed white and ready to paint. We discussed with the customer if they would like the trim dropped off before their installation date, so that they may paint it before it is installed. This customer did not want to paint in advance. After we installed the windows and trim, we informed the customer that the trim needs to be painted ASAP. House Smart also advised that not painting the trim may alter the performance of the new windows. Due to not painting the trim in a timely manner (painted in the summer, 6-8 months later), the trim was exposed to the elements, causing some to warp. The head flashing was also pulled away from the windows.
The customer again about called House Smart with the issue of the same “leaky window”. Our crew was sent to fix the window. Upon closer inspection, they found that the customer’s wood siding above the window in question is in very poor shape. The wood siding is cracked and pulling away from the house. The crew used 4 tubes of caulking to seal the cracks in the siding, at no cost to the customer. The old, cracking siding is the cause of the leaky window. We really tried to help her out.

window installation & french door (YES!)

Very friendly helpful staff. The installers worked quickly and were courteous. They took all the old windows away and advised that everything possible would be recycled. One young installer was being trained at the time and I was very impressed with patience and constant explanations during the installation to this newer person.

cut two new windows and installed

My two bedrooms were not bright enough. House was built in 80's. I called a few companies to get quotations and ideas in cutting new windows. Housesmart came with reasonable price and the sales was professional. I'm quite happy with the installation team's work. Perfectly done! Totally became part of the house, both indoors and outdoors. Most importantly, now the two bedrooms are very bright. I believe this is a good idea to renovate old houses.
