New home purchase

Girlfriend and I recently purchased through Trico homes. Service was outstanding and made the home buying experience very easy. Move in went off without any issues, and workmanship was too notch. Issues were resolved at walk-through (paint touch ups mostly)

BUYER BEWARE!!! (Brand New Townhome)

My wife and I have built 5 brand new homes in the last 22 years here in Calgary. All different builders. We never had an issue that wasn't repaired immediately and without hassle until we bought this townhouse in Wentworth Pointe from Trico. Trico has the worst after possession service we have ever seen in this industry. They absolutely refuse to fix some items even though there is a definate problem with it. It seems like once they have your hard earned money they don't want anything to do with you even though there are abvious problems. Their exterior landscaping abilities are a complete joke. The redo walkways three times now that are still to low elevation wise which causes major flooding in the rainy season to the point where you can't even use the walkway. They take two complete summers to complete a small portion of a total project. Some trees and bushes are dead as well as some of the grass, the sprinkler system hasn't been on all year the grass is now brown where it did grow. Bottom line DON'T EVER BUY A TRICO PRODUCT, EVER!!!
***In response to Trico's responese below here is my response. First of all they didn't even speak of the interior major plumbing problem that they refuse to fix. Secondly the elevation of the walkway is way to low, all the down spouts drain onto it, it's not rocket science but Trico seems to think it is, this walkway will continue to flood until Trico raises the entire walkway above the grade level of the grass around it. There are areas by the garbage garage, mail boxes and parking stalls that should have been completed last year and still haven't been repaired to date. Lastly Trico's statement that says they take all feedback very seriously is a total joke! You have to fight to the point of going to the City of Calgary for them to do repairs inside the home that should be a warranty issue. We still have a major knocking noise when you flush the toilets that they refuse to repair, we have had an indepenent home inspection on this and they have stated this installation definetely has not been done correctly.
As I said before once Trico has your money, they don't want to hear from you ever again.

Trico takes all feedback very seriously. I've looked into your concerns and spoke with the construction team in Wentworth. This year has seen record amounts of rainfall in the months of May, June & July which have created a delay for concrete and landscaping companies. In reference to the walkway in Wentworth it has been replaced one time and that was recent. The grass around this area will be repaired and we hope to have that completed by the end of the month. With town home projects and winter builds the completion of landscaping can only happen during the spring and summer months. The landscaping has a one year warranty and the following summer 1 year post installation, Trico will inspect those areas and replace any shrubs or trees that may have died. We are working diligently with the landscaping company to clean up these areas. Wentworth is s beautiful community and I want to assure that once the construction and landscaping is complete the common areas will look very nice. Please do not hesitate to contact the warranty department at any time if you have further question or concerns regarding your home or the exterior areas. Nicole Walker, Customer Relations Manager

The absolute worst experience

We have had the worst experience and it has given us total anxiety for a few years now. If you plan on purchasing a home in the higher range - do not go with this builder. We have dealt with the worst kind of people that will smile in your face knowing you are getting screwed, all while they are making money for what feels just like a money hungry corporation. We upgraded our home a lot, which is our fault, because now we are dealing with poor workmanship and after our 1 year warranty, it all falls on us. Even during the 1 year warranty, it was a total fight for every little thing. When they are in the wrong, they won't admit it and still blame you. A lot people that are happy with their homes either have no idea what to look for regarding the workmanship or they just haven't discovered yet all the issues they are going to have. These homes will last 10 years tops before needing major repairs, if you are lucky. We have had ever kind of issue you can imagine. The houses are put up fast, they have a system and that works for them due to this dumb warranty and they walk away winning. The warranty only works for the builders, not the home owners, no matter how much they say it's fair - It's not. We have lived in this home under 3 years and are already having to look for land to build a forever home (which this was supposed to be) and do it right and get out of this house that's literally falling apart. Save yourself the headaches and disappointment.

Trico Homes takes all feedback very seriously. I can assure you that Trico is a very reputable building and we strive very hard to provide our customers with a home that has high quality and standards. The warranty is set by the Government of Alberta and all builders must adhere to those warranty guidelines. At no time do we want to blame our customers for anything that falls under the warranty. I would be happy to speak with you regarding your concerns, please contact me at 403-287-9300. Nicole Walker, Customer Relations Manager

Do not buy a Trico home unless you are looking to fight for everything

My experience with Trico started out very well during the sale process. I honestly thought that this would be an amazing experience based on the reviews I have seen and my experience with sales but, everything changed when I took possession. I learned that a lot of the "promises" or more expectations that were set during the sales process were really just telling me what I wanted to hear which, was strange given I had already completed paperwork. Many of the things I was promised would be done when I moved from out of province took over a year to complete.

My experience with Trico since then is that they have garbage after sale and service and either look to blame you for everything or try to find ways out of honouring their warranty. Every answer is that the issue is standard. Totally normal that your floors all squeak and bounce after less than a year. Completely normal to completely miss the floor joists when installing subfloor, all concrete cracks and unless you have the grand canyon, it's normal. Kitchen cabinets, garbage. Guess I have to live with that though since the cabinet company went bankrupt. It's totally normal for your windows to only stay closed when they are locked. In case my sarcasm is lost, none of this is normal.

To add insult to injury, I very nearly ended up in court with this company because they screwed up with their drafting and didn't want to take ownership of their mistake.

As a future buyer, I would be VERY skeptical about all the positive reviews you are reading since every neighbour in this area (save for 1) that I have spoken to who bought Trico has had issues, poor service and has regretted the decision.

If you want to know what your service with Trico will be like, just read their response to their negative reviews. Remember, this is what they are willing to write publically. Imagine what it is like to deal with them when what they say is not memorialized in writing.

Final comment. I am two years into my new home and I would give anything to go back and make a different builder decision.

Incompetent Warranty Dept.

We had a great relationship until my first experience with warranty. There was a temporary 2x6 column poured into the basement floor. Warranty insisted it was structural even though it was 22" from steel column. 2nd experience was with grading. Work was great but material supplied was garbage. Removed 4" thick asphalt, a no excavating sign & rocks as big as your head. Zero organics in the rubble. Warranty insists its loam even though field staff contradict this.
Update: an email was sent to Trico’s president 16Oct2020 & 1 of the issues noted was that 3 customers within a 1-block radius refused to deal with 1 of their warranty staff. The response was that the case gave them the opportunity to learn & improve. Time will tell. I wouldn't deal with them again though.

Trico takes all feedback very seriously. I looked into each and every concern you brought forward. The warranty department did their very best to address your concerns even going as far as changing service coordinators and service technicians to try and provide customer satisfaction. It is unfortunate that we could not meet your expectations. The President took the time to review your concerns which fairly resulted in his response. I understand the grading and loam provided by the developer was not sufficient for some homeowners and we did do our best to rectify the problem. Nicole Walker, Customer Relations Manager
