Not for air conditioning

I called BC Furnace to come and service a heat pump in a townhouse that we just bought. Unfortunately about an hour after the service was done the unit inside the house started to leak water down the wall. I was told by the dispatch that the tech would be back at 6pm to check it out. He did not come! I called and was told that he would come on Sunday at 5pm. Again he did not come! He told me he would be at my home at 9am Monday. He did come this time but not until 10am, not even bothering to call and give us the heads up. When he finally did show and got to work on the unit, he decided that the pump was shot and we would need a new one. I was quoted $600. They ordered the part and cam the following Friday to install.
After installing the pump the tech showed my a kinked hose and said this was the culprit. Then why did I need a $600 pump? I didn't bother to complain and just considered it a lesson. Then 2 days later water started down the wall again. I called again but was told that I would have to pay premium rates as it was the weekend. In normal circumstances I would understand this but this was their mistake. So I waited AGAIN! I was told that the tech would be here between 11-12. At 1145 | received a call saying he would be late. I was told he would arrive by 1240. At 1pm I finally gave up.
I would definitely not hire this company to do any air conditioning work. I cannot speak to their furnace work.

Company Response

Thank you for sharing your feedback, even though it reflects a less-than-ideal experience. We truly value your trust in choosing our company, which has been serving the Lower Mainland for over 40 years.

After reviewing your case thoroughly, we discovered that some issues may have originated with the company that originally installed your air conditioning unit. Nevertheless, we understand that when problems arise, it can be frustrating, especially when they aren't resolved on the first visit.

We regret that when our technician arrived with the repair parts, he was turned away at the door and was unable to proceed with the service.

We are committed to continually improving our repair services, and we’d love the opportunity to resolve this situation. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to our manager, who would be happy to discuss your concerns further.

Came on time but technitian lacked basic knowledge

Our furnace stopped working on Friday night and with no sign of restarting, called BC furnace on Saturday noon and as committed, the technical guy came within a couple of hours. He checked with the error code and said said the ignitor is good and seems gas valve s faulty and needs replacement. He said need to wait till the parts are ordered and left within 30 min without checking anything else. With home getting colder, I checked online and many were indicating to clean flame sensor first up for any such issues which I did on Sunday after referring to YT videos and it started working! I believe any furnace company needs to tell their technicians to do such basic things before replacing parts. Will not call them again or recommend to others.

Service call

I call to tell them my smart thermostat isn't working and that it needs to be replaced. They tell me the thermostat is warrantied, but I will need to pay for labour as its been more than a year; fine. They come for 5 minutes and tell me what I already told them: thermostat needs to be replaced. They come back a week later and replace it. Here's the kicker, they bill be TWICE. Once for the "diagnostic callout" to which they were here five minutes to tell me what I already told them, then again to program it. Sorry, but that is shady. I worked in trades for years...when the diagnostic is incredibly obvious, we would drop the charge. It's what an honest company does. Good rate on furnace install, but it ends there.

So pleased that BC Furnace could again handle my annual furnace safety check. Office staff are wonderful, and Lokman is an AWESOMELY skilled and efficient technician and such a very kind and helpful human being. He was patient with my questions and issues, too. Very reassuring for this senior citizen. *Thank you*.

Quick Water Boiler Fix on a Holiday

Gheorghe quickly diagnosed the issue with our 20 year-old boiler, and fixed it on the spot with a universal replacement part he had onboard his truck. And this was on a holiday! It was great to have heat back in the house in November!

Watch for the added costs

They will provide a reasonable quote, and give the impression of experience. Seems true enough, though they subcontract installation of at least Central AC.

Had too many extra costs come into it after though with one in particular being quite suspicious.

Can’t fault the installation as yet. Looks tidy.

Furnace/Water Heater Replacement

I wish I could say that we had a good experience with BC Furnace, but we didn’t. We felt like we had been misled to and misled right from the start of dealing with them. We purchased a new place that needed a new furnace and hot water tank, as neither were safe to use. We met with a couple of companies to get quotes. BC Furnace came in a couple of thousand dollars cheaper than the nearest quote, so we chose them. Admittedly, this was our mistake. Before signing the agreement, we asked if they used subcontractors, our representative said no they do not (they actually do). We asked that the work be started asap, as we have an infant, and being without heat or hot water wasn’t an option. We moved in on a Thursday. I was told that the work couldn’t start that day because measurements needed to be taken for the installation, and the day after that would be needed for the installer to fabricate the parts needed. Work was supposed to be scheduled for the following Monday. Our rep also said he would try to schedule 2 installers so that the work could be completed in 1 day. Okay, 3 days without heat and hot water we could handle. Monday came, and by 10am there was no sign of BC Furnace. I called and they said our rep had scheduled the install for Thursday, not Monday. So we would be a week without both before anyone even showed up. We were also told it was a 2 day job for 1 installer. They scheduled 1 installer on the Thursday before a long weekend. He removed the old furnace and hot water tank on the Thursday. He obviously couldn’t finish the whole job as he was by himself and no parts were fabricated ahead of time, they were all made on site as he needed them. He attempted to get some more work completed on Saturday but was under the weather, so he had to leave and didn’t come back until the Tuesday, after the 4 day weekend. We were 12 days with no heat or hot water. April was a very cold month. Everyone in my household got sick, including my infant. BC Furnace’s solution to our no heat or hot water was to provide 2 small space heaters (which cannot be left on at night) and to tell us to go to a rec centre or a gym to shower and use their hot water.
I sent numerous emails outlining our issues and stating our displeasure with the whole situation and job. We received no response. We were misled to so often that I started to lose count. Our rep would tell us something then backtrack when we asked more questions. Every time I called their offices and asked to speak to a manager or accounting, they transferred me back to our account rep, who was wholly unhelpful. I would never recommend BC Furnace to anyone. If you do choose them, ask who their subcontractor is, and use them instead. You’ll probably pay less. We were really pleased with our installer (a subcontractor). He was friendly, chatty, helpful, and did what he could to finish quickly.
