Car Audio: Head Unit & Subwoofer

Head unit and subwoofer installation: Get a quote from the owner (Ray) and place my deposit. 4 weeks after my deposit I wake up early with a family member to drop my car off at the shop. They call a few hours later letting me know the car can't be worked on as they don't have staff to do it so they need to keep my car overnight... The next day I retrieve my car I notice they wired the speakers in reverse so we had to return it to be fixed. A week later I check the website for the subwoofer they put in and realize the bass control knob that is supposed to come with the subwoofer was not installed. I call back and Ray says that it's not something people usually want so they don't bother doing it...how about deliver the full paid product to the customer rather than hope they don't notice? This made no sense, anyone with a subwoofer knows bass knobs are vital in controlling the subwoofer. I return my car for a fourth full day due to shop error. The installation of the sub into my system is a whole issue in itself. First, they gave me a subwoofer where I could see glue keeping the subwoofer together (pictures attached). I never got a box or manual either. I had to request a new sub at the same time I got them to fix the errors as it was clearly used, even Ray agreed the subwoofer was bad when I pointed it out to him. They did not bother to understand my current speaker system to tune it with this subwoofer (that they chose) even though I explained to them what system I had during consultation, they just took this powered subwoofer and plugged it into my system and hoped messing with the head unit settings would be enough. When I used the crossovers to tune the car speakers it effected the whole system and cancelled the subwoofer entirely.

Once the problems started to arise, Ray was getting flustered with the errors I kept finding and surprised with information I was telling him regarding car audio. Keep in mind if I was a customer that did not have some knowledge of car audio I would've walked off and thought this shoddy install was normal, I WAS finding all the errors, not Ray. The main reason I went with a shop was to receive professional work for my vehicle that had an advanced factory system, not receive worse service than the garage mechanic down the road. Now the sound is distorted and worse than before. Here's the information I get regarding an exchange. Since Ray is pushing the narrative of it being me just wanting more bass, I ask about a 15" subwoofer and he says "dont entertain a 15 inch sub. Please and thanks." without any further explanation, what kind of audio business is this where you receive that response to a speaker question? The real kicker of all this, I was not able to get a subwoofer suitable for my car and price range as Ray only works with Rockford Fosgate product. I found an alternative and Ray reveals to me I am restricted to the more expensive Rockford equipment, I looked at the website he linked me and the products would bring me to about a thousand more than the products I was choosing. At NO point of the quote process was I told they work with Rockford only, I assumed they chose the subwoofer because it would be suitable for the vehicle. I got a unsuitable subwoofer due to Ray's undisclosed conflict of interest and he did not take any responsibility for it. Near the end of the process, he just avoided my calls and handed off the problem to a co-worker. I fought tooth and nail and had to keep following up with them and finally got them to refund the incompatible subwoofer. The head unit is good but I have an expensive mess to clean up and lost a lot of money for other things I planned for my vehicle. For a shop that has audio in their name at the bare minimum they should inform me on the product they push and the possible outcomes rather than take the money and then state issues afterwards. This is a condensed review, there was other issues I cannot fit into the review limit. Don't go here.
