Emergency Residential deadbolt unlock
My family returned after some grocery shopping, when my dad forgot to grab the house keys from the car and closed the garage door, we were left with only one option, to call a Locksmith.
I did a quick google search for locksmith and came across one on the very first page who offered 24*7 service across GTA.
I called them and was told the service call costs $29 plus to open the lock costs $45 and up. I did a quick calculation, with cost around $100, I went ahead and provided my name, address and phone number.
Technician called at around 5:39 PM, confirmed the address and mentioned that he will show up in 25 to 30 minutes. I called back at 6:15 PM to confirm if he is coming, he said he should be there in another 10 minutes.
At around 6:25 PM the technician shows up, I take him to the door (typical door with deadbolt). He said it would cost $300 to drill it. My dad and I looked at each other in disbelief. He said he will look to see if he had a lock to replace the one being drilled. That cost an additional $195. We asked him to proceed, at this point we had no option. We were more shocked when it literally took him a minute (at most two) to open the door.
My question to the owner, how can you justify a charge of $592.12 for a total of 5 minutes works (drilling/changing lock)? I really wish you set reasonable prices or set realistic expectations on your charges when on the phone. Don’t you feel such high prices is just taking advantage of someone’s unfortunate situation? I am not asking for free service, I understand you have to pay employees and cover other costs, but really $592.12?
