Moving and Storage

I thank this company for teaching not to use the small guys and read everything before you sign.. Many problems, terrible communication and inability to be flexible. Payment options should be written and calls to seniors demanding furhter funds should not be part of the policy. The men who picked up the goods wre lovely the office staff horendous. Deal with the real Canamerican or Atlas. The cost of moving a studio items from Toronto-Edmonton, was greater than the move of a 6 bedroom house from Edmonton-Toronto. No joke.
Sotarge, maybe if you put the items in yourself. Otherwise your boxes are left in the warehouse as I was told. It would have been nice to know before I signed the paperwork.
I am grateful that I do not have to deal with them anymore...

NEVER HIRE THIS COMPANY!!!
I hired CanAmerican to both pack up boxes at a house in Ottawa and move them along with furniture back to Toronto all in one day. They showed up in Ottawa over an hour late and then men who came were friendly but had no packer with them. They called one in and it took him another hour and a half to arrive. When everything was packed up and the movers were on the road ,I called the company to see when they esitmated the truck to arrive in Toronto (my father and I were leaving work early to meet the truck at my storage locker, which I had rented specifically to store the contents of this move). When I spoke to Pamela she was extremely rude and told me to expect my goods in 2-3 weeks - I had ordered them to arrive SAME DAY. She was unapologetic and said that they tell all of their customers it will take that long. Yet, when she had booked our move she had made arrangements for the movers to call me when they left Ottawa and when they got in that day. She had also told us to expect the truck around 4pm, but if they had other pickups they would arrive latest the next morning. She refused to tell me what day to expect the goods and would not give me the name nor number of a manager. I am still waiting to hear from them regarding our delivery.

IN RESPONSE TO THE COMPANY'S RESPONSE - you may have offered us one free month of storage but YOU NEVER PAID. We followed up numerous times and you made it so difficult to get anywhere that we finally gave up.

Move from one house to another in Vaughan

3 movers showed up, the team lead thru a paper in front of me saying if I don't sign it they can't start. Was in a hurry and very stressed so I just signed it. I told him my husband and my brother could wrap up the furniture to save time. He told me no, if we wrap it and something gets damaged then they are not responsable. He told me he would wrap it. I hired them because I thought they are large and reputable, I have 8 pcs of damaged furniture from this move and as it turns out the paper I signed is to say that I opted out of wrapping, which I didn't want to do that and even mentioned to him, do you want me to wrap AGAIN half way thru and he said no.

They are dishonest and train their movers to throw these sheets in front of you when on moving day, you are stressed, tired and just want to get it over with. I even ordered two rolls ahead of time and said to them, why would I order two rolls of plastic wrap if I didn't want my furniture wrapped up?

Dealing with customer services is attrocious, they kept saying they didn't get my emails with the pictures of the damaged items, I had to try and send them three times.

At the end of all that after 4 days of trying to send them pictures and speaking to three different ppl, they phoned me back saying they won't cover my damages because I signed the paper saying I would wrap it up.

It was a horrible experience, I would not recommend them to anyone, anywhere and don't be fooled, they seem all nice on the phone before your move, after your move its a totally different story.

They also go by the name Yellow Storage - Buyer Beware!!!!!!!!

Moving

I booked a move from Brampton to Montreal. The saleswoman who talked to me (Daisy), was very friendly and understanding. I tlod her I didn't have a lot of money to spend and she promised me the move would cost no more than $1,500. With billing by the hour instead of the weight, since I ham a phd student and have a lot of books. Well, when the movers finished the job, in Montreal after being 12 hours late, the total sum was $2,900!!! And I had to pay for their return trip also! This company is a total rip-off. It should be brought to court.

Moving

I contacted CanAmerican Van Lines for a quote to move my belongings from Eastern Ontario to Northern Alberta. I was given a quote for 500lbs as I was only taking the essentials and wouldn't have much to move. For every lb over 500lbs it would cost $1. After everything was packed and ready to go I only had a box spring, mattress and 2 small wooden pieces for furniture to be moved. The rest consisted of approx 10 rubbermaid containers, 2 boxes, a couple garbage bags of clothes etc, 3 wall pictures, a vacuum, a sewing machine, and a printer. I thought that I may be over 500lbs by a bit so I was prepared to pay a bit more than the price quoted for the 500lbs. I was in shock when I received a call hours after my belongings were picked up by movers. I was told that my belongings had weighed 1250 lbs. I told the lady on the phone that I didn't think it would have even come close to weighing that much but she told me that she had the weigh ticket proving that was the weight. How am I to know that they didn't pick up someone else’s belongings on the way to the weigh station or that there wasn't anyone sitting in the truck as it was being weighed? So obviously I had no voice on that one so we proceeded with payment. This was when the lady on the phone had told me that I couldn't pay with my credit card because the movers had forgotten to get an imprint of my credit card when they came to pick up my belongings. Although, they did manage to get an imprint for the $500 deposit that was charged to my credit card after booking the move. The lady wanted me to send a money order, which was out of the question because now that the move was costing me nearly $1000 more than I had anticipated I was unable to have the amount come out of my banking account. She then asked me if I could come to their office so that they could get an imprint of my card. The office was located 3 hours away from me, I would have had to take a full day off of work and pay for the cost of gas there and back. After telling her that there was no way I would be driving there and that I was told on the phone when booking with the company that credit card was an accepted method of payment she told me that they would just take my credit card # and expiry date over the phone and would get an imprint when my belongings were being delivered to me on the other end. This is now the beginning of a whole other issue. When I called CanAmerican to set up my move, we decided on a date to have my belongings picked up in Ontario so that it would arrive in Alberta the same time as I would be arriving. This meant that my belongings would be picked up 2 weeks sooner than I would be leaving. Now that I am in Alberta I do not have my belongings and they are now not intended to arrive for another 2 weeks!!! If it was going to take 4 weeks to arrive in Alberta I would have just made the arrangement to have my belongings picked up 4 weeks before I would be arriving. I have spoken with CanAmerican since arriving and have been told that all moves of this distance take at least 4 weeks. The only condition I had when booking the move was that my belongings got to Alberta within a day or two of my arrival in Alberta. We discussed the dates on the phone and CanAmerican came up with the date that was 2 weeks prior to my arrival in Alberta. The lady I have been speaking with at CanAmerican has told me that she was looking into whether or not there was another truck they could put my belongings on so that they might arrive a bit sooner...no such luck. Throughout the past couple of days talking with CanAmerican about this issue I have not been given any apologies. I have only been argued with about the time this type of a move takes even though I was told otherwise by CanAmerican when booking the move. I asked what type of compensation I would be given for this whole situation and was told that there would be none. The lady told me that there are always unforeseen circumstances that may delay a truck from reaching its destination. Now I am confused. Does it always take this long to get to its destination or is it delayed? When I asked to speak to a manager the lady told me that she was the manager. After asking the manager for her name she simply said bye to me with no info as to when and how they will be contacting me about the delivery of my belongings. I don't even know if CanAmerican has a correct phone number for me as during this whole process that have not once contacted me.

Move to a new home

When the movers arrived they were very pleasant. I was greeted by Helder then Walter and Clayton. Throughout the day they were very professional and took great care with our possessions, always asking to ensure it was okay for something to be stacked or otherwise. Helder knows how to pack well, if it weren't for so many boxes we could have moved our 4 bedroom house in one move. The key was the prep, my wife and I celophaned all the furniture and moved it all down from the second floor so all the movers required was to move it out and pack it in. That being said, the success of the move is to the planning that you do before the move and the time taken to label and direct. Treat it like a project. The other thing is that you need to get involved, I was the fourth mover. This sped things up I believe. It was a long day though and very cold. Would I recommend them. I would definitely. Price was a bit on the high side, but it also depends on the time of the month that you move. Ask about their rates well ahead of time then you may be able to close your house accordingly and get a better rate. However, in the grand scheme of things, this may not be pertinent. Overall a very enjoyable experience to which I attribute it to Helder, Walter and Clayton. A good team that deserve their bonus!!! Cheers.

Move within Toronto

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! This was the worst moving experience I've ever had. They threw out an entire wardrobe box full of my work clothes (worth $3000) and are saying that I instructed the movers to throw it out. I even purchased $1000 worth of replacement value protection and they are not compensating me. It took 2 days and 2 separate moves to move my 2 bedroom apt. because they brought a small 12 foot truck on moving day. It took 9 hours to move half of my contents and I had to sleep on boxsprings that night becasue the mattress was still at the old apartment. The company said they had to come back tomorrow at my own cost for them to get the remainder of my items. The movers offered to come back the following day, under the table, with no contract as an option. The movers were crass and rude and DID NOT SEAL THE TRUCK BETWEEN LOADS even though I pleaded with them to do so. My expensive electronics and all my contents were in the hallways, in the parking lot and in the wide open truck. I believe this is how my wardrobe box went missing. It has been 2 months of pleading with this company to re-imburse me the cost of my work clothes. They claim I instructed the movers to throw out my clothes and refuse to discuss the matter any further. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! Do your research when looking for a moving company
