New Windows

Consumers Choice Home Improvements installed new windows at the front of my house and I couldn't have been more pleased. What a difference for such an amazing price! It looks like a new house. David Hunter was exceptional. His suggestions of style and colour were perfect. The installers had the job done in a couple of hours and the clean up was done to perfection.
A truly great experience with everyone I dealt with at Consumers Choice Home Improvements.
I would highly recommend them to anyone for their home improvement projects!

Excellent work, great people

I replaced all the windows in a beautiful old High Park home. Dave Hunter sold me the product. He was honest, easy-going, and gave me a very good price. He also checked in throughout the project. Very down to earth. He's actually the reason I have recommended him to 2 friends and gone through him for my last 3 renovations. Solid, and I highly recommend asking for him by name. Beka did the actual install. He was a pleasure to work with, and he did great work. The house looks amazing!

Window replacement

Last week I had all the house windows on the ground floor replaced by Consumers Choice Home Improvements. I have a large home with many windows including two large bay windows. I contacted five companies and received five estimates varying considerably in price. I was leaning towards the most expensive of the quotes as I was looking to get a top quality job done on the home. Consumers Choice was the last quote that we got and was very competitive to the previous quotes. The representative Joe was extremely knowledgeable and professional, he listened and made notes of all the special details that I wanted and even recommended additional changes that none of the other companies had envisioned. A few days after signing papers the installers Beka and Darit came out to make the final measurements. It was a few weeks later that they came to do the installation on one of the coldest days in February. They worked fast and skillfully taking no breaks (would not take hot coffee offered many times) did not even break for lunch. The next day was snowing all day but they worked cheerfully together as a well trained team. The clean up was brilliant, these installers were true professionals and did an amazing job which they completed in only two days. Hats off to Consumers Choice I will certainly recommend this company to all my friends.

Front door

First, they left a big mess of adhesive materials on my concrete patio and interior stairs. I took pictures of it and someone had to come and scrape it off. The door looks uneven and never closed properly. It was stiff and stuck. Someone came to "fix it" and now it's too loose. I have to always lock the door or any slight wind will open my door. I also feel quite a bit of cold air coming in. A few months ago, my husband swatted a fly with a fly swatter. Lightly touched the glass and it broke! We have done this with all of our windows that my husband installed with no issues but I suspect it's because it's installed unevenly. This company has major attitude and theu don't call you back when they say they will. You have to chase them down if you have an issue. Keep calling them! A red flag that I should have seen was when the salesperson came to my house to sell me the window, he was pushy - offering a 'deal' that I could only get if I signed right then and there. I wished I had done my research because after he left, I Googled this company and found out they had some legal issues due to some shady business practices. Another redflag: the salesperson bad-talked other local window and door companies with good reviews in this area. Stay away from them! They were not even the cheapest quote I got. Nothing but problems. UPDATE: I have had a few companies come out to give me a quote on replacing the broken glass. They have confirmed my suspicions that this was installed atrociously. First, there is bowing down the side of my door. There are cracks all over the place and it's uneven after only 3 years? You should be able to lightly swat a fly without glass breaking. If it was installed properly, this would not have happened. No company will fix my broken glass because without removing the door and completely replacing it "it will just happen again". It's shifting and there is pressure on the glass. I am now looking at getting a complete replacement of the door due to shotty installation. It was even recommended by another company that I take consumers choice to court. They keep saying that their manufacturer won't cover it but it's not the material that I am disputing it's the INSTALLATION. Take a look at the pictures I have attached. They also put in non tempered glass in the transom which is dangerous. Does this look like good work? I don't want this company back in my house.

Dear Lauren. I know you are disappointed we could not cover the broken glass in your transom under warranty at no charge. Unfortunately, we installed this door system 3 years ago. As you stated you hit the glass and it broke. This is one of the few exceptions in the manufacturer’s warranty. We cover the glass for the 1st year, but unfortunately this is way past that date. If we could get it covered under warranty for you, we would. As with all our customers, we have tried very hard to make you happy. Every time you have called with an issue, we have come out. When you called about some debris that was left after installation, we immediately responded. Several years later when you called about the transom glass breaking and the door being too tight, we responded and performed an inspection on the transom and adjusted the door. Now you have indicated that the door is too loose, we have also scheduled a service immediately to address this issue. I’m sorry we haven’t been able to meet your expectations. Should you need anything else we will continue to do our best for you.

Windows with shutters x 4, storm doors x3

Installers Dennis and his son Kyle we friendly and professional. Very hard working. Windows and doors completed in a timely fashion. Shutters are custom measured and perfectly fit the windows. Customer service by phone was great. Always spoke to a person not a recording. I recommended Consumers choice to a friend who replaced every window and door in her home. They are also very satisfied with Consumers Choice.

Approximately 10 years ago we had most of our windows in our home completed. When we decided to replace our bay window and basement windows we investigated our options of companies. It was only after we agreed to contract with Consumers Choice we realized we used Consumers Choice for our first installation. This was a perfect choice for us because we have been very happy with everything on our first installation. Installation was completed on schedule even though it was right before Christmas. We did not experience any heat loss as the installers were efficient and completed the job in such a timely manner. We have already spread their name around to the neighbours. Oh and it's fantastic we were able to pay through our Consumers Gas monthly payment. So happy to have all our windows completed and confident they will look as good ten years from now as our existing 10 year old windows look today! Grant and Denise

Their warranty is worthless

I contracted Consumers Choice to replace ALL the windows in my home back in the fall of 2009 - a little more than 7 years ago. I spent $20,000 to get top-notch product and service. For the most part, I'm happy with the windows -except one of them.
The bay window, which is just 3 windows framed together, is leaking where the windows join. I'm currently renovating the room where this window is and the only reason that I discovered it is that the wall underneath is damp and covered in black mold. Obviously it's been leaking for years, probably since day one.
When this window was being installed, I noticed that the installer had broken the existing window sill while removing the old window. He just laid it back in place and then installed the window over top of it. I didn't think much of it at the time because the windows are warrantied.
However, Consumers Choice now tells me that the warranty if for the window itself and not the installation. They offered to have one of their incompetent installers come by to see if some caulking will fix it - for $150 minimum charge! No thanks, I'll fix it myself.
I don't recommend this Company.

Company Response

Dear Mike and Ana we’re sorry to hear you are having issues with 1 of your windows. We have left messages for you at the numbers we have on file and are still waiting for a return call. Unfortunately, as indicated on our warranty, contract and Window Wise quality assurance program, caulking is a wear and tear item and is not covered under warranty outside of the 1st year. Much like brakes or oil in your car, it wears out over time. We need to come out and inspect the window to identify if the problem is due to anything other than caulking. If the problem is due to caulking, there would be a charge to recaulk as discussed. If the problem is from something with the window or installation, Consumer’s Choice will be more than happy to look after it. Please call us back to discuss the situation further.
