Ewen was friendly, efficient and honest. Would gladly ask him to do work again. He did a lot of work with great patience and offered the best price (of the two others I asked for a quotation).

Ewen helped us with some woodwork during significant renovations we completed on our house. Fixed existing gumwood wainscoting (which was damaged/broken during renos), installed new wainscoting in a small powder room, built and installed random baseboards, door casings and window casings. Ewen had a great combination of all the traits you look for in a contractor - good response times to communication, stuck to his promised timelines, kept a clean work space, and completed quality work (good eye for detail, which was key for the repairs of our existing wainscoting). In addition to all that, a conversation with Ewen always meant some good laughs - a very pleasant, fun personality to work with!

I found Ewen on Homestars. He was one of three contractors that I recieved quotes from.I hired Ewen becasue he understood the challenges of the odd corners in the room and specific requirements that I had. Also, we discussed the exact wood that would be used, negotiated a fair price for the work, and detailed the features that would be included. I am thrilled with the end result. Further, Ewen worked efficiently in the house, cleaned up every day and completed the work on time and on budget. I have already recommended his work to friends.

I contacted Ewen based on reviews on Homestar. I met with him to discuss a custom built bedframe. I provided him with a sketch of what the bed frame looks like and we discussed about modifications that are to be made. He said he'd email me a modified sketch based on changes that we discussed.

A few days he told me that he has already purchased the materials required and start the building process soon. I asked him for the sketch and he said he'd provide that to me later.

2 weeks later, he emailed me and asked me to pick out the stain colour for the bed frame. I was surprised to learn that he has proceed with the production of the bed frame before I approve the sketch. He said he was eager to start and got carried away with the production. He assured me that the bedframe incorporate all the changes we discussed and that I'll be pleased with the final product.

When he's ready to install the bedframe, he just emailed me the day before to let me know that he'll be stopping by for the installation. I told him it's a rather short notice and we postpone the installation a day later.

The final product left a lot to be desired. The workmanship is poor, the staining of the wood was uneven and the bed frame was not built according to speficiation.

Beware. Obtain precise sketch of the product you get him to build for you before hand rather than relying on empty verbal promises.

I would hire and recommended Ewen to complete any carpenter work you may have. I have been doing reno's on my home for the past 2 years and Ewen was by far the best contractor i have hired! I only wish i could hire him to do all my other jobs!! A++++

I would highly recommend Ewen for any type of carpentry work. He replaced the wood cabinet surround of my hot tub in the fall. I was very impressed with how professional he was. He was not only quick to return phone calls and follow up, but he was also honest and down-to-earth. (It was very refreshing to not feel like you were dealing with a shady company or someone who was just plain trying to rip you off.)

Ewen took the time to quote me on three different woods/wood-composites, which also helped in guaging budget. I was impressed with his innovative, practical design for the hot tub, including a custom door to access the pump and a bonus ledge for the hot tub cover. I wouldn't hesitate to contact Ewen again for any carpentry work.

In August/September 2009, having researched carpenters on Home Stars and having seen photos of Ewen's wainscotting work, my husband and I decided, as part of a larger self-contracting renovation, to hire Ewen to do extensive wainscotting work throughout our house, and he did not disappoint. It was the added touch that gave the house the "wow" factor at a cost that was not much more than pre-fabricated panelling, which in the end would not have looked anywhere close to the "real deal" once it was done. There were a lot of contingencies to deal with in an old house and Ewen mastered them beautifully. He is a true craftsman, a gem among a sea of people who would like to call themselves tradesmen, but who truly cannot deliver the quality of work that can only come from years of training and experience. We have him returning in the new year for more work and my husband and I would never think of hiring anyone else.

We decided to build floor to ceiling bookshelves in one room of our new house and hired Ewen based on the reviews he had received on Homestars. We are so very glad that we did. He's a top notch carpenter. He came to our house, talked through all of our options (what wood to use, what construction to go with etc), responded promptly to all email queries, quoted a price (which, importantly, was the final price we paid - nothing hidden or extra was added), and once we had commissioned the work, completed and installed the shelves in very short order (about 2 weeks). The work was immaculate and we love the shelves.

More importantly, Ewen is an all around good guy. He speaks with a passion about his work and life and one cannot help but be drawn in by his limitless energy and boundless enthusiasm. We would have no qualms at all about recommending Ewen to any prospective client.

We were thrilled with the work Ewen did for us. He came up with some creative solutions to a difficult challenge, had the grace to deal with removing the incredibly poor work of a prior tradesman, showed up on time, listened to our needs, and gave us a beautifully finished result. We felt totally comfortable with him, and about having him in our home. We really appreciated that he accommodated the timeframe within which we hoped to conclude the work. We will recommend him to our friends and family, and would not hesitate to
have him return to do more work. Ewen is an honest, trustworthy,

Ewen's work (custom shelving, rad covers, new doors, baseboards, casings, trims and hardwood flooring) literally transformed our main and upper floors into a new home! He works fast and efficiently and is extremely professional. He worked within our budget and over-delivered on our expectations.
