Central air conditioner maintenance and repair
Enercare sent a technician to maintain a central a/c unit in a tenant apartment. The agent promised a charge of $99 for diagnosis. If there was a problem to be repaired, there would be a further charge, which I agreed to.
Enercare's technician went to the tenant's house and found no problem with the a/c aside from the fact that it is a unit nearing the end of its service life. The technician did no repair work on the unit.
The technician did change the filter, a filter that I provided. That took 15 seconds. Enercare counted that filter change as a repair and charged me a total for the "repair" and "diagnosis." No real work was done on the unit. When I confronted Enercare over this outrageous bill, the "customer care" person insisted that the filter change constituted a "repair" and was subject to the minimum labour charge of $99 per half hour of the technician's time. I would be happy to be for real service. This was bogus.
Beware of this company's evasive and tricky language. I will not deal with this company again.
