Basement renovation including: gutting, rebuilding floors, walls, new laundry room, new bathroom and finishing a bedroom

Bravehart brought a southern France inspired design to my previously dingy basement. The bathroom went from cramped and tired to bright, clean and inviting.
The laundry room is fresh and light. The rooms look bigger now.... The accent tiles and flooring Laura helped select made a difference to the overall look. It was a fun experience. The men were professional, dependable and always left my house clean and tidy. Bill and his team were always on top of details and easy to talk to.
Thanks Bravehart for a beautiful and functional basement that can now also double as pleasant guests' quarters.

Kitchen Renovation

We hired Bravehart to undertake our kitchen renovation after assessing several general contractors. The job entailed a complete demolition of the existing kitchen/breakfast area, framing, sprayfoam insulation, drywall, painting, flooring (heated), electrical, new windows and doors, siding on the exterior of the addition and backsplash.

We moved out of the house but would visit daily to check on how the job was coming along. We were pleased with the progress and Bill ensured that his crew stuck to the pre-determined schedule. The only delay was related to a door/window supplier delivering a day late (outside of Bravehart's control). In fact, we were very happy the work was completed a few days before the kitchen cabinet company was scheduled to install. I should mention they were ahead of the original schedule despite us adding a few smaller projects as we went along.

We are in an older 1920's house and after the ceiling was completed, we noticed that the movement from walking on the second floor caused the floor joists to move, which in turn created some damage to the ceiling's drywall. Bill immediately took down that portion of the ceiling and reinforced the joists at no charge.

The crew was courteous and clean. One of his crew named Tom was often at the house and he was very knowledgeable and great at answering any questions I had. Bill is a great resource for anyone looking to renovate as he listens and comes up with the most efficient and effective solution. He is straight to the point and let's us know if its possible and if it makes sense. Overall, the experience with Bravehart was very positive and we plan to contact them for future renovations and have already referred them to friends.

Interior Structure, Remodel, Underpinning & Addition

From the very beginning, I had a great feeling about Bill and Laura. During the tender stage, out of five contractors, they were the most prepared, knowledgeable and committed to the job. Bill took the time to actually explain the various components of the project and Laura gave us a detailed schedule that beat anything the competitors provided. That, to me, was the closer - given the pressure of a tight timeline, I was reassured that Bravehart could meet my needs. And they delivered. Bill's crew, Nick and Randy, expertly handled the construction which involved a new addition, jacking and levelling tired old floors, new bathrooms and kitchen, knocking down walls and restructuring to achieve the open concept the design called for. There were many sub trades involved in the project, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, foundation, flooring etc. and Bill and Laura managed them effectively. And, though the job grew in scope several times, they were able to schedule (and reschedule) to keep it very close to the original timelines. So, several months after project completion, we're continuing to enjoy our 'new' home and extremely happy with the results. There have been a couple of small issues after the fact and Bill has been extremely responsive - no disappearing contractors here. In fact, when he says there's a lifetime guarantee, I believe it. So at the end of it all, I would not hesitate to call on Bravehart again. They delivered what they said they would, when they would and within budget. And the company slogan "In your driveway everyday"? It's absolutely true.

In the end this project was a pleasure for my team and I to work on as Howard and his family were very upbeat and enthusiastic throughout. We look forward to continuing our relationship on future projects.

Complete Interior Renovation

Addendum November 2015: Currently putting an addition onto same home as Braveheart worked on in 2008. In addition to two flaws that revealed themselves shortly after the Braveheart work was done (improper drainage in basement causing sewage smell and improper roofing causing perpetual leaking into second floor window and subsequently into main floor powder room every time it rains) we have recently uncovered two distressing problems 1) inadequate insulation in roof R20 v R60 and 2) inadequate footing dimensions such that the concrete did not extend to the outer walls of the house except in a few places and there was an absence of grout along the outer portion of the walls. Very glad our house didn't shift or collapse! All the work of sub-trades, but all under management of Braveheart (and City inspector I might add!) Due to new revelations that impacted our comfort, energy efficiency, and safety, I can no longer highly recommend Braveheart.
Jan. 2009: Bill recently completed a full interior renovation for our 1920's North Toronto home. While my husband (a serious handyman with separate day job) poured over the construction details, my interest was more in whether I could trust the team, care of the property, consideration for the neighbours, keeping to timelines, and attention to the details and aesthetics. To ALL these points, I can truly say Bill and his team were absolute professionals. They were trustworthy and efficient, and really really nice. Bill worked with us on each detail and offered experienced recommendations as well as finding us significant cost savings (over $5000 for one room underpinning system alone).
My favourite part of the whole home reno experience was one I wasn't expecting. Laura, Bill's wife and business partner, provided us with additional support that I don't believe other contractor services offer. Laura gave us priority sequenced "to dos" so we could keep in time with the project. She sourced out materials such as flooring, countertops, etc. and was with us at the showrooms to guide us. She recommended a kitchen place that we thought would be out of our budget, but actually came in the best of all kitchen places we compared (in service, price and product). They were also outstanding. Best of all, Bill and Laura were there all the time. We always knew where to find them, who was coming in when, what was being done, and they answered even the most mundane of questions with respect. Even with the Bravehart home renovation complete, Bill and Laura continue to follow-up with us! I absolutely recommend Bill, Laura, and the Bravehart Team to anyone looking for outstanding service and an expertly constructed, beautiful home. In fact, I already have.

Whole home facelift + kitchen, bathroom, sunroom reno

I was very pleased with the design service provided by Bravehart Building and Design. In our new home, Laura worked with me to provide features that were both beautiful and unique. She has an aesthetic which is respectful of the style of the existing space and incorporates her client's end vision. Her goal is to help clients transition from a 'busy, noisy' look to a clean, simple, elegant space and she certainly accomplished that in our house. I would recommend working with Laura and Bill on Design and Construction to my friends without hesitation.

Kitchen Renovation

We did our kitchen reno this summer with Bill Wallace and primarily his workers Randy and Nick. Laura was also involved with ideas and assisting us in obtaining our granite at a good price. Like many of the others on this site we had a positive experience. The job started on the scheduled start date and due to some luck with a cancellation of someone else's granite install,it was finished before the expected completion date. They were at our place almost every day until the job was done. They were easy to deal with, worked hard and cleaned up at the end of the day. What was most impressive was that they cared about ensuring we were happy with the job. There was an issue with the floor tile and grout not taking in one spot. They came back to correct that problem after they were paid in full, without us having to chase them to do so. We are happy with our kitchen and would recommend them to anyone looking for a dependable contractor who cares about the quality of their work.

Basement underpining

We hired Bravehart to underpin and lower our basement to convert
unusable space into a whole new floor in our house. As GC, Bill managed all aspects of permits, engineering and construction, including overseeing structural engineers, geotechnical engineers, concrete team and finishing. Our project worked to schedule and was completed as promised. We were so pleased, we had Bravehart complete an additional project, to improve basement access, during the same time period. I would not hesitate to recommend Bravehart.

Basement renovations

Bravehart totally redid our basement, including gutting and rebuilding the bathroom, storage room and laundry room. They re-tiled and re-lit the hall and renovated the entertainment room. Their approach is highly professional and their work is excellent, thorough, on time and on budget.
Bill and his team consulted us and suggested worthwhile improvements to our plans in several places. They also solved problems like how to run a mass of wires behind the walls in the entertainment room in such a way that we can access them without much trouble if we need to make changes in future. They obviously genuinely cared about completing the project to a high standard and ensuring that everything was the way we wanted.
