I am not exaggerating when I say this was the WORST shopping experience of my life. Let me start by saying that this was about 3-4 months ago, so I am not just blinded by rage right now. I have had lots of time to calm down and be logical about the situation, yet I cant even drive by the store without my blood boiling. I think that says a lot. Why, you ask? Let me tell you that I went into Parks looking at couches and bedroom sets. We didn't find any couches but we did purchase whole bedroom set (dresser, mirror, chest, bed frame, 2 night stands, box spring and mattress.) We had the family discount card, so we received the 40% off. For a total of just under $1900.00. Which was great! I was pleased, my experience had been great up until that point. No complaints from me. The problem with Parks come when you go to return something. Whether it is being returned by fault of your own, OR by fault of the store. Which is mind boggling on its own. SOO, we pick up all our furniture, (we had a moving truck so we were able to, as we just bought a house and it was moving day!) we get all the furniture unloaded and begin to go at assembling it. This is where we came to find that the quality and workmanship was really not there at all (in this particular collection anyway), but fine, i got a good deal, i will live with it. Then we discover that the bed rails could not be latched on to the headboard, which was due to faulty workmanship on their end. We couldn't even rig it to make it work. It needed to be replaced. I called them and filled them in, I was informed that the did not have the pieces needed to fix the bed and that I could pick out another set and return that one. I told them I was more than okay with that, as I wasn't very impressed with the quality of the furniture anyways, I would be happy to return it! Then, they inform me that they could take the rails from a king size bed they had in stock (I had a queen), and problem solved. I said "No. I want to return this set. Its poorly made, its not built properly, there are scratches and dents on one of the dressers, so no. I will return it, and pick out a new set." So now this is where it gets really fun! I was informed that since i was returning it, I would be charged a 10% restocking fee. Which equalled out to be over $200. First of all, I didn't even spend $2000, so how does 10% of $1886 end up being $224? Well, it seems they don't base they're %10 fee on what you paid (I had the family discount card, remember?) They base off of the FULL PRICE! Not only that, but they are charging me this fee for returning a faulty bedroom set they sold to me! How dare they!? Needless to say, I was not impressed. I kept calling and trying to speak to supervisors, who were all incredibly rude. I finally go on the phone with who I was told was the owner, and I have never felt so disrespected in my life. He was the rudest, more arrogant person I have ever spoken to. He was patronizing, spoke down to me, rude, and this was the owner! We ended up in literally a screaming match with him telling me "DO NOT EVER CALL HERE AGAIN!" and he hung up on me. I was in tears... I had this huge bedroom set sitting in my garage that was unusable. I calmed down and called back, i had no choice, i was stuck. We both apologized but he was still snarky with me and did not budge. I had to pay this $224 AND he charged me a delivery fee to pick it up. It was suppose to be $80, but he was nice enough to cut in half to $40. What a great guy! (note sarcasm please!). Soo, long story short. It cost me $264 to return a bedroom set that was sold to me broken. Wow! Can I just add that just a week prior we had purchased a couch from another store (not allowed to name store) for our basement. The delivery guys came with the couch but it would not fit downstairs, so they packed it back up, took it back to the store, and i was fully refunded, no hassle at all! It boggles my mind because technically this store could have gave me a hard time considering it could've been said that it was my fault it didn't fit, maybe I shouldve measured.. but no, they took it back without even a question. Then you have Parks Furniture, who sold me faulty product, and then charged me almost $300 to return it! There is something very wrong with this picture! I wish I could do something about it, but I can't. I can only warn others to be cautious. They seem like a great store... nice selections, fair prices, but remember, the problems arise when you need to return something! My boyfriend and I are a young couple that just bought a house, we will and have been furnishing our whole house, but we will NEVER shop at Parks Furniture again! We also have lots of friends who are at the home buying point in their life, and we make sure they all know not to go there as well. I may as well have just flushed $300 down the toilet... and I'm sure most of us can agree, that's not pennies! That is a significant amount of money!
