Several years ago I found a Berger chair replica outside a house where folks had moved out. Knowing the value of these pieces, I snapped it up! I then had it restored by The Master Craftsman as I was told that what I found was a good piece with an excellent seasoned wood frame. Although the upholstery was worn out and springs in the back needed attention, it was worth restoring. I must admit I paid more than I expected but I was sold on the idea of having a top quality piece to keep for life and then pass on to my daughter. i saw it as an investment. When I got it back some 8 weeks later it was worth the wait. I did not even recongnize it! the wood had been restored, as requested, to a mahognony stain from the walnut prior....the upholstery was gorgeous because I choose the fabric and it set of the show wood beautifully - the high contract between the creamy beige upholstery and the red wood was stunning...the double piping detail was flawless, no threads or glue showing! I could find no fault with it...except the cushion...which I had initially choosen to have done in foam should have been in down! I returned the cushion and spent the extra money to do redone in down. The soft feel and warmth of down is the ultimate luxury...and on these cold winter nights I love to relax at the end of a long day on my good quality Berger reproduction....it is like sinking into a hot bath. This morning I came downstairs to find my cat curled up in it as well! Definitely worth every cent and the time it took! Thanks to all at The Master Craftsman.
