We were looking for a company to trust with our project; replace the disintegrating gazebo installed by the previous owners, build a deck off the ground-floor master bedroom, and connect the deck with a walkway to the patio area off the kitchen that we had put in about five years earlier. We had gotten rid of the gazebo ourselves in the fall, and this had left the rotting hexagon floor footprint in an odd placement within the brick pavers in the pool area. The original gazebo was a hexagon wedged in against the metal pool fencing leaving a lot of wasted and unusable space. I reached out to Michael and was immediately impressed with his knowledge and willingness to consider a custom design that I had roughed out that also included a pergola. Our love of traditonal timber design meant a lot of extra work to make the design work and Michael worked with me to bring my vision for the space to life. His keen attention to detail and pride in his work was evident throughout our entire project. His solution to address the hexagon-shaped hole left by the old gazebo meant that the two distinct patio areas had a cohesive element because he incorporated the large pavers that we had installed years ago into the new area under the pavilion. The new structure is a contemporary and a visual centrepiece. But most importantly, it is the place where we spend the majority of our time in the summer months (and fall and spring with blankets). The structure is substantial and provides a shaded and breezy place to sit and enjoy the garden. It is beautifully built and the quality of workmanship is evident. In addition to the new pavilion and outdoor living area, we also wanted a medium-sized deck built off the main floor bedroom. We needed something that was low maintenance but still looked natural and fit into the surroundings. Michael worked with us to select colours and a style that was complimentary to our home. As a result, we ended up with another outside space that we enjoy, especially for those early morning coffees. Communication was prompt and crews showed up on time on the days they were scheduled. They did a great job cleaning up each each day. We have recommended M.J.L. Woodworking to a number of friends looking for a contractor. In fact, we were so pleased with our project that we recommended Michael and his crew to my sister who had them rebuild a significant outdoor structure and patio that another contractor had made a mess of.

After my great experience with goldwell on the basement floors of our old home, I contacted Goldwell to do major work on our new home which required extensive upgrades. The entire main floor oak hardwood needed to be sanded down and restained (had been stained a garish mahogany colour) and the old dusty rose carpet on the stairs and loft area had to be ripped out and raw oak laid down, sanded and stained to match main floor. The crew did an amazing job and the floor is now a timeless custom stain colour that will never go out of style. The stair treads and loft look like they were installed at the same time as the downstairs. There were a lot of dated oak accents and large beams that needed a boost. Kris and the crew worked with us to find the best colour and did an amazing job staining them to modernize the while look of the house. There was a lot of patching and drywalling where we moved walls, removed closets, and tidied up the areas around the other reno's. The crew also did an excellent job painting the very high walls and patching the ceilings to cover where repairs and reno's had been done. I highly recommend goldwell for drywall, painting, staining and floor refinishing needs.

After reading some of the reviews on Homestars for concrete repair and finishing/coatings, I contacted Goldwell Restoration. Kris not only responded promptly before the end of the day, he also suggested I stop in the showroom to see the options available. He was professional and knowledgable. After discussing options over the next two days, we went with Goldwell; best choice we made. The work was scheduled promptly and both Hubert and Kris communicated regularly. The crew showed up the first day and were professional, polite and helpful. While my husband and I had emptied the majority of the items from the basement, there were a few large items my husband needed a hand with (air hockey table, large metal cabinet, fridge, chest freezer). The crew jumped in and helped get it all upstairs. They laid down drop cloths and picked up all garbage and scraps when they left. The first day they worked until nearly 9pm on preparing the floors; we were impressed at how hard they worked. When they were starting or finishing for the day, Kris or Hubert would either text or phone to provide a status update on the work as well as arrival times or anticipated start times the following day. The last (third) day, Hubert had originally advised the crew was going to start around noon. Around 1210pm, he texted to apologize and advise that the crew were enroute and would be arriving in about an hour. I have a crazy schedule and a million things going on. Despite knowing that I was home for the day working in the house, taking the time to update me was huge. The floors look fantastic and I truly wish we didn't wait until we were getting ready to sell to do them. I would not hesitate to recommend Goldwell to anyone. I would utilize their services again in a heartbeat.

First of all, Gary responded promptly to my queries (majority did not even bother to respond). He was professional, punctual and knew what he was talking about. The workmen showed up as scheduled and cleaned up the area they worked. There was one area that needed re-doing and Gary was super about getting hold of me, arranging a convenient time and ensuring it was done to our satisfaction.
