Studio move from Montreal to Toronto

I employed Multicity Moving Inc for my move from Montreal to Toronto following an estimation and quote done by them. I needed to move the contents of a studio apartment and the initial estimation was done online by listing out the move details and by listing out my possessions. That produced an estimation of 604$.

The online quote was followed up with an onsite estimation where a representative, who later said to have 12 years of experience in moving, was shown all the contents of my apartment and confirmed the 604$ price.

While transferring my lease, I ended up selling all my furnitures and had only boxes left to move. Removed from the initial estimation was the queen bed, a leather couch, 2 tables, a bookshelf, a papasan chair and a cabinet, effectively reducing the amount of things to be moved by 2/3. I followed up with Multicity Moving Inc and received a new quote of 418$ for what's left. I agreed and paid a deposit.

The day of the move went smoothly. The movers worked efficiently and after moving all the contents, confirmed the 418$ quote and finalized a moving contract for that amount.

On the day of receiving the delivery however, Multicity produced another document wanting 783$ for the service. After speaking with the account manager Robert for a long time about the absurdity of moving much less than the initial 604$ estimate and being charged much more, it's apparent that they have no intention of honouring the 418$ contract nor the 604$ confirmed estimate (based on more items to be moved) and that their business model was simply holding other people's possessions in hostage and extorting money, primitive and as unsophisticated as common thieves. I was forced to pay a higher price to ransom my possessions.

They allege that their entire price structure is based on weight and that their actual measurement differed from the initial estimate. If the initial estimation was 604$ with bed, couch, bookshelf, table etc etc and the final amount was 783$ without, the estimation from the representative (who had 12 years of experience) is would have been wrong by 300%, effectively beating even the Conservative government at fraud.

The weight of the move was confirmed on the day of the move when movers said it was the lightest move they had since a long time and confirmed the 418$ quote. They also followed up with a moving contract for 418$ which was later disregarded.

I later received a new couch on the day of the reception and the couch, with half the volume of all my boxes, was 150 pounds. Multicity alleged that my boxes of cloths etc was 1480 pounds while the couch had a full metal frame.

Multicity's final request of 783$ was based on supposedly 1480 pounds. But their initial estimate of 604$ (which had a bed, couch, 2 tables, bookshelf, cabinet etc etc extra) was on 1500 pounds! Multicity simply randomly extorts more money because they can while customer's possessions are in hostage

There's no way, through this experience, can Multicity be proven as a legitimate business.

Company Response

We did a visiual estimate and gave him a approximate weight and price. Customer was happy and booked the move with us. We brought the shipment and kept it in storage. (60 days free) The customer doesnt understand one point. Based on the items that we have seen on the visiual estimate, we gave an estimated price however, we cannot weight the shipment by looking at it. One box can weigh 10 lbs another can weigh 50 lbs. We dont know whats placed in it and how much they weigh. Shipment was scaled and the final balance was calculated based on the net weight of the shipment. Customer wasnt happy with the balance and the weight. We tried to keep him happy by giving him a discount of $133.00. Customer still wasnt happy asking us to give up another $50.00. However we gave back our profit and commission. The shipment has been picked up and shipped for the cost. No profit has been done. The customer did not want to pay more that what he can afford.

moving toronto->vancouver

I read some negative reviews here for this company and very surprised -
First of all it was easy to contact, all my emails were answered in minutes. Service was provided as scheduled, team was professional and estimation of mr Bonder was correct. I used all kinds of services - sending cars, packing, storage and move, car I sent prior my departure was delivered in 2 weeks. Prices for all services are very low, but price/quality proportion is very high.

I would highly recommend this company.

Additional thanks to Leslie for prompt and friendly responses. Very professional service.

The movers were Ismail and Eddy - very nice and professional guys.

Move from Oakville to Quebec

I just moved my household from Oakville to 60 km north of Mont-Tremblant, Quebec. All my contacts were done through Leslie who was very helpful, I had an in-house estimate done by Herb Bonder and the load was quite a bit heavier than what is on the standard estimate on the Internet. I had sold my house in Oakville and the Loading date was important to me as it was the day before the closing. As promised by Leslie, the packing took place two days before the closing and the loading of the furniture onto the truck was as promised by Leslie, the day before the closing. We agreed on a delivery date and the truck arrived at 8:00AM on the day that we agreed to. I was quite happy with the schedule which was the most important to me.

Moving

I would totally recommend multicity moving company to anyone who just thinks the move is going to be crazy. Leslie, my consultant was truly amazing. She was quick, accommodating and very resourceful. She gave me all my options and told me everything the company would do. The gentlemen who came to do the move were helpful, polite and did not rest through the full 4 hours. They disassembled my furniture, wrapped everything up and when we got to the new place they put everything back together. They were truly very efficient and i have to say knew exactly what to do....Thanks Leslie and my amazing movers!!!!!
