Moving from Toronto to Calgary

We hired "Multicity Moving Inc" located in Mississauga Ontario to move our
house hold to Calgary-Alberta from Brampton-Ontario.
They came for the inspection of the household to be moved, signed the
contract/agreement and took our household in July 2012.
On Wednesday 18th August 2012 we got a call from the company informing us
that the delivery would be made on 18th Aug 2012 between 3 PM and 7 PM
Calgary time. The tractor trailer came to our apartment parking lot by 7PM,
and the driver asked us to contact the head office the following day as he
cannot unload the stuff due to a fireworks taking place in the communtity and
Police wanted them to move the truck.
We called the head office the next day 19th Aug 2012 by 8AM Calgary time,
spoke to a person who identified himself as ROBERT who was in the Missisauga
office, he said that the truck has gone to Edmonton and had to talk to the
driver to arrange another time to deliver.
To our shock, the sales manager Mr.HERBERT BONDER called my wife in
the morning of 24th Aug 2012 from their Mississauga office and told my
wife, that they cannot bring the tractor trailer inside the apartment parking
lot as its too big, therefore he wanted us to rent a UHAUL truck and transfer
the goods into it from their tractor trailer by the street and we are
responsible for the rental/labor of the UHAUL and he further said that they
will NOT deliver the goods by their transportation. He was very rude with my
wife over the phone and he did not let my wife talk also.
I again called the Mississauga office this evening from Calgary spoke to
ROBERT, he said we have to get hold of the driver and arrange a time and they
will NOT contact the driver and he has no time to talk about this matter over
the phone and he kept the phone, not a pleasant talk at all.
We made calls to the driver couple of times and left messages, no reply so
far. And we clearly told the sales manager HERBERT BONDER and the other
person ROBERT that the contract is between "MULTICITY MOVING INC" and "US"
and they took the responsibility of moving the household items from Brampton
to Calgary and therefore they themselves have to contact the driver, and
deliver the goods as promised at the time we made the contract and they did
not mention in any of their contract agreement that we have to hire a UHAUL
truck to transfer the goods.

We had a very hard time with Multi City movers and NEVER again in our life would call this people for the service.

I want to mention here, that if they are having the business for long periods of time, they should know that the big tractor trailers are meant for industrial areas and how can they bring such a long truck to the residential apartment areas ?

Approximate cost of services:
$1,200.00

Company Response

After careful investigation of the customer's claims we concluded the following: our long distance driver made an attempt wih a 53" ft van to deliver the shipment but was not notified by client that there was a street festival going on at that time. The entire street area was closed and we had no excess to the apartment driveway. We tried to explain to the client that a shuttle would be necessary at his expense. He refused any additional charges so our Dispatcher suggested in order to save money that the client should rent an U-Haul truck so we could off load the shipment a block away. Again, the customer refused. Every effort was made to satisfy this client but he refused any additional expenses.
