Complete electrical rewiring + added outlets
This is loooong overdue - 2 years in fact! Two years ago, we had Mueller Electric rewire our entire 100 yr old house and were COMPLETELY satisfied with them. This was/is our 1st home and we were planning to blow in insulation, so we wanted to rewire the house first. This was our 1st renovation project. We did a LOT of research as to what to ask, what qualifications were required, etc - we had a spreadsheet of the different companies to record the answers! We had 5 different quotes, including one from a company recommended by Mike Holmes (which was most expensive and didn't provide anything extra) and others through Homestars. We found out about Mueller Electric from a neighbour. Their price was mid-range, but most important, Mike was very very thorough in his assessment prior to giving us a quote and describing the work. He was the ONLY contractor (out of 5) whose walk-through included using instruments/tools and looking in great detail at our wiring. Every other contractor just did a general walk-through. In fact, before he stepped into our house he had looked at the outside wire connections and suspected it was 60 amp connecting to the city - not the 100 amp we believed we had. Mike was the ONLY contractor to notice this. We thought we might be wrong and asked a few other contractors, even had an ESA inspection done. Well, after we told Mike that the ESA said it was 100amp, he arranged for the inspector to come by and he stripped a piece of wire to show the inspector that it was not 100amp. The ESA inspector agreed and subsequently changed the report. All of this was before we signed up with Mike and gave him a single penny.
So, we signed up with Mueller Electric. Mike's crew was great. They worked hard each day. We were very inquisitive and liked to know what was going on - they answered questions throughout the process, pointed out wonky wiring stuff, gave us no attitude and were easygoing (but hardworking). Most days, there were the same 2 or 3 workers, with an occasional additional hand (including 2 coop students learning the ropes). They wired in dimmers, a bathroom fan, 3-way switches, GFI-receptacles, and other new outlets. We had bought ceiling fans (with remotes) for the 3 bdrms and they even assembled them from the boxes and installed them; ditto for all our other new light fixtures. In our kitchen, they rewired so we could run the microwave, toaster, and kettle at once.
We can't say enough about them and would and have recommended them without any hesitation. Mike was easy to deal with and answered and returned calls promptly. He is high energy and might be a bit intense for some, but nothing bad. I am surprised by the other person's experience. Mueller Electric's services were very well-priced, especially with the knowledge and expertise that Mike brings. No additional costs, no hassles. Written detailed contract provided. Thanks Mike and crew!
