We contracted AGM for a standard kitchen renovation in BC, drawn in by their marketing as a premium service endorsed by Mike Holmes. Unfortunately, our experience was not quite what we had hoped for. Despite the premium price tag, the quality of both materials and workmanship fell short, and the project timeline which was originally promised to be completed in 3 weeks ended up dragging on for over 5 months. Throughout the process, there were long stretches of radio silence, disorganization, and very little communication about the status of the project. It was clear that AGM was much more focused on meeting payment milestones than on actually finishing the job in a timely and professional manner.
The high turnover among project managers and general contractors also added a unique level of chaos to the renovation. Our project went through three different project managers and two general contractors, which meant restarting the scoping, design, and material selection process multiple times. We were truly impressed by how consistently the team needed to re-do work that had already been started. Tradespeople frequently seemed more like handymen than licensed professionals, which, while charming in a DIY sense, wasn't exactly what we were expecting from a so-called premium service.
Given that we were paying inflated 2023 prices for what should have been a relatively simple kitchen renovation, we certainly felt undervalued. The entire experience was far more stressful and frustrating than we ever anticipated. Based on this, we will not be pursuing future renovations with AGM, nor will we be recommending them to friends and family. But were sure theyre learning a lot from feedback like this, so theres always hope for improvement.
