Meehan Plastering & Drywall

I was referred to Meehan Plastering and Drywall by my friend who just had his drywall finished.

Gavin showed up promptly within 48 hours of contact him and did an initial on site inspection where he was able to provide me a quote the day of. He estimated it would take a week to finish the job and he said he would have his partner help out to ensure that it was done swiftly.

By the end of the job he ended up giving me a small discount of a few hundred dollars because the job was less work than he initially estimated!

A few years ago I noticed long cracks forming in our ceiling. There were about 8 substantial cracks, due to the warped dry wall in the ceiling. Gavin came to have a look and give us a quote. He worked on the ceiling while we were away on vacation. He did a wonderful repair job. The ceiling is now perfect. Gavin is a meticulous and trustworthy man. We are more than pleased.

A substantial hole in the ceiling of one of the bedrooms suddenly appeared as the result of water condensation accumulated over a long period of time. This was the result of a disconnected ventilation tubing in the attic. This causative problem was first corrected by a roofing company. Then, this company undertook the repair of the extensive damage in the ceiling and wall. This was done very professionally and efficiently, producing quite an amazing result. This was done so meticulously that now, it is impossible to determine where the repair took place, as the ceiling and wall were returned to their original condition.

We had a roof leak that damaged the second floor ceiling over the stairwell and in a bedroom. Our house was built in the seventies and all the walls and ceilings are drywall covered in a layer of plaster. This has proved to be a challenge to repair in the past. That is why we choose Meehan Plastering & Drywall. Well, that and their Homestars reviews.

Gavin and Barry removed and replaced the damaged section of ceiling as well as the insulation and vapour barrier while protecting the existing crown molding and ceiling rose. They followed that work with mesh and a plaster skim coat. Finally they painted.

The results are beautiful! Our 50 year old ceilings look perfect. And they did all this within the estimate provided by our insurance company.

Gavin and Barry arrived exactly on time and finished on schedule. They took extraordinary care to protect our floors and control dust. Gavin documented the work with pictures and reported on what was accomplished each day. They gave us every opportunity to inspect their work for flaws. There were none.

We have rarely had such a positive experience with the trades. Gavin and Barry were a pleasure to work with.

After a lot of research and in-person interviews at my house I hired Gavin and his team to drywall, tape and mud my recently underpinned basement.

My requirements were not straightforward as the basement structure was heavily modified to be soundproofed (i.e. soundclips/furring channel, duct silencers, roxul safe'n'sound, etc.).

All the drywall contractors I interviewed either did not have the skills or interest to address my requirements. It was only until I met Gavin did I have the confidence to hire a drywall contractor as immediately he put me at ease on his approach, willingness to work around finicky requirements and moving timelines all at a more than fair price.

Gavin and his team carefully measured the space, prepped the floors to protect them and then installed the various types of drywall in the myriad of configurations that my soundproofing engineer had requested the sheets to be situated (i.e. double 5/8" drywall, green glue, soundproof caulking, soundproof drywall, moisture drywall, 1/2" drywall, waterfalled overlapped edges, etc.).

The drywall install was efficiently done over a few days and equally efficiently done was the taping and mudding.

Gavin throughout the process consulted with me when choices were to be made as he wanted to make sure I was happy with the outcome throughout.

I couldn't be happier with the final product as all the walls, bulkheads, ceiling, and corners are smooth and have crisp lines.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Meehan Plaster & Drywall to anyone. He is one of those contractors that is a pleasure to work with (which is quite rare these days having gutted my 1920s 3000 square foot home in 2018 and having worked with all trades...the majority of which do not take any pride in their workmanship and do a job that is of poor quality).

Gavin completed a full ceiling replacement in my dining room after the original lathe and plaster ceiling became unstable and unsafe. He was the right man for the job! We are so happy with the quality of work and him and his team were utmost professionals throughout the process. This is the second time I've used Meehan Plastering and Drywall (the first time around was for a complete basement drywall/mud/tape job) and they did not disappoint!
