A/C replacement with Heat pump

Replaced an old A/C with a heat pump, it heats the house but the first couple of days I noticed a lot of water on my walkway between houses. Joseph the salesman informed me in heat mode this is a normal operation of the unit defrosting. I am not happy that he had not informed me of this before I agreed on getting a heat pump because we use this walkway all the time and to take the garbage out. In winter there will be ice over the walkway making it dangerous to walk on so I will have to only use heat when above 0C degrees. Other HVAC companies did not inform me of this either. If I had known I would have just got a new A/C instead or had it installed in my backyard,

Company Response

Thank you for your feedback! We genuinely value your experience with our services. The water you observed is part of the heat pump’s normal operation during its defrost cycle when in heating mode. This process is essential to maintain the unit’s efficiency.

As temperatures drop further in winter, the Ecobee thermostat we installed will automatically switch to the furnace instead of the heat pump. This change will prevent water accumulation and any potential ice formation on your walkway.

We sincerely apologize for not fully clarifying this beforehand. We value your feedback and will ensure that our sales team thoroughly explains all details to avoid any misunderstandings in the future. I would also like to share that more and more consumers are choosing heat pumps for their environmental benefits and higher efficiency.

If you have any further questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We hope this explanation gives you added confidence in your new system’s functionality!
