Samuel and team did an awesome job. All other contractors told me they would only use 6 to 8 inches of base. Looks good in the beginning and then looks terrible after the first winter. Canaan used 14 inches and had me come out to inspect depth after excavation but before it was filled. The team then filled the hole in stages tamping it using a vibratory compactor at each stage. The result is that my stones did not move at all after the winter. The same could not be said for neighbours who used other contractors who charged even more but only went 6 to 8 inches deep and did not tamp using a vibratory tamper for every 2 to 3 inches of aggregate. Some contractors even used a hand tamper. Bottom line is that this contractor takes pride in their work and is not out to make a quick buck. With this type of installation, this driveway will be a pleasure to look at for decades to come.
