His & Hers Tree Service

We called Steve to have a look at raising the canopy of our overgrown trees in the backyard. While looking, he gave us sound advice and information about maintaining and caring for all of our other trees, and even alerted us to a very bad beetle problem we had with our birch tree which was beyond recovery. Steve did more than we asked without hesitation, and went above and beyond our expectations. Steve answered all of our questions when asked, and took care to ensure that the site was always clean and left safe for our young children. We could not be happier with the work that was done. Steve is simply the best!

Steve and his partner responded quickly to my enquiry and arrived as scheduled. Steve was not only knowledgeable about the kind of trees we had but also advised us on what to watch out for, given some leaking sap in the mulberry tree. The trees had not been attended to for some time, so they were in need of trimming over the roof of the house, the garage and the neighbour's house. When done they cleaned up, leaving no mess.

I needed a large American Elm (a rare tree in Toronto) pruned back from my house and a neighbours house as it was growing over both our chimmneys. I contacted several tree service firms and the quotes varied dramatically. Steve's quote was the lowest (which actually had my scared when I picked him!), but he by far exceed my expectations (and those of my neighbours!). He was quick, efficent, cleaned up better than was required. I know I'll use the team again and I've already sent their details to a number of friends and neighbours.

My husband and I received numerous quotes and McDonald Forestry was not just the most competitive but it was SIGNIFICANTLY less than the others. We found Steve to be very responsive to any requests for information and he provided support above and beyond our expectations. Our situation was somewhat unique and we experienced some "hiccups" regarding our permit... Steve provided us with all of the reports (arborist report, replanting plan, site photos) we required in order to expedite our application - it was a great relief to have someone familiar with the process help us understand what our next steps were going to be. We were pleasantly surprised by his follow-up and customer service - he consistently provided us with updates and communicated any potential issues so that we were in the loop throughout the process.

McDonald Foresetry completed the job during the holidays - while also not being disruptive to our neighbours (which was greatly appreciated by all!). Overall... a pleasant experience... the site was clean and exactly what was promised... fantastic customer service. We would definitely recommend McDonald Forestry and would call Steve again if we ever needed their services.

I highly recommend Steve and McDonald Forestry. A fair estimate for a job well done. They came on the day I requested and on time and worked tirelessly to prune the 3 trees on the property. The cleanup was exceptional and I am very happy with the results. The trees were pruned to allow more sun on the property in the summer and I can't wait til next summer to see the results. We required a 30' locust tree removed. Steve came over to take a look and quoted electronically within minutes of leaving. The price was great and we set a time. He came over by himself, took the whole tree down by himself (within 2 hours) and the place was spotless! He even went to the neighbours to see if he could clean up their yard. I had a tree in my backyard requiring removal. The limited space and overhead wires meant I needed someone who knew what they were doing. After reading many positive reviews of McDonald forestry on Homestars I called and spoke directly to the owner Steve McDonald who came out that same day to assess the job and provide a quote. I was impressed with Steve’s response and arranged a time for him to start the job the following week.

Steve arrived when he said he would with equipment in tow at which time I left him to go to work. When I arrived home later that evening the job was complete -- the tree gone, the yard tidy, everything in order. No complaints.

In summary, I have nothing but good things to say about Steve McDonald and McDonald Forestry. I recommend him to anyone needing the services of an arborist.

About 1/3rd of a very large Silver Maple fell in a windstorm across my backyard and 2 of my neighbours' backyards. I had a few companies come out to take a look and was instantly impressed with Steve's calm demeanor, honest advice and obvious expertise. You can tell that Steve and his people work from integrity and I felt like I was in very good hands from the first minute we met.
