I needed to remove a large Norway maple that was beginning to push out my boundary fence before it got too big to remove, and to prune another maple that had one bough growing too near the house, plus remove a couple of boughs of a 40 year old white pine that was shading the garden and house too much.
I emailed Steve on Tuesday afternoon for a quote, he responded almost immediately and came to the house to view the work that evening. He game some excellent advice, we agreed on the work and he gave me a very reasonable quote the next day which I accepted. He said he could do the work on Friday. This despite the unexpected snowfall on Wednesday.
He arrived with his team and they were simply amazing. Polite and fun. They did a great job, cleaned up and were done by lunchtime. My neighbour saw them working and came over to ask me about the work, I had no hesitation whatsoever in recommending Steve and Steve took a look at the job there and then.
The difference it has made to my back yard is amazing. I have wanted this work done for several years but was never able to find anyone I could trust and who had the knowledge and ability to follow through. With the help of this website I found Steve and his company. He's an exceptional young man and I wish him every success - I almost wish I had more trees he could prune for me!

Steven at McDonald forestry did a great job in handling our magnolia tree which had scale. He was on time, informative and thorough. He took his time with the pruning and spraying and is coming back next spring to inspect the tree. Great work, reliable and a reasonable price. It doesn't get better than this.

These are some of the key descriptors which come to mind tonight, after my being totally pleased and satisfied with Steve McDonald and McDonald Forestry's services, the first part of a 2-part job which was just completed this morning.

From our initial in-person meeting and Steve's very thorough property walkthrough, I knew I'd be hiring Steve, after he took his time to inform & educate me as to the tree varieties on my property, their current health etc.,.

Steve listened to & addressed my concerns and told me that later that evening he would email a quote of a Menu of potential jobs/solutions from which I could pick and choose to have McDonald Forestry undertake.

The detailed quote (PDF format) together with followup phone calls and emails that further addressed and answered my inquiries, helped me to determine which issues were a priority and how best to proceed -- and -- get the best bang for my buck -- which in my case, turned out to be a suggestion by Steve that we could make it a 2-part job, the 1st which commenced and was completed this week, and the 2nd part to be undertaken in the spring, when the ground is not frozen, and the grinding of tree stumps an the turning of the soil beds where the shrubs were removed in job 1 can be done all at once and therefore at a more reasonably priced job.

Steve even went above and beyond his duty - BEFORE I had even hired him - by contacting the Toronto Forestry Dept. to inquire as to the ownership status of a tree at the front of my property, whose limbs had grown above my tall house and over onto my roof. His facilitation came at the cost of saving me money when it was determined that the tree is the property of the City -- something Steve had been forthright about from the get go, and which ultimately meant that Steve would not be doing that particular job and receiving payment for that tree pruning. Amazing.

I am not surprised in the least that Steve and McDonald Forestry has a full 10 Rating here at HomeStars, or that so many of his customers have created and continue to create the largest volume of positive and detailed reviews about his service, honesty, fairness, pricing and total professionalism in this category.

I am very much looking forward to Steve and Ian returning in the spring for Part 2 of the job.

I have used this company on two occasions once for pruning a large tree and once for removal of a tree. The work was performed as scheduled, all debris was removed and the yard cleaned up on completion of the work. Written estimates were provided prior to the work and were adhered to. I have recommended this contractor to a number of friends.

Had a tree growing too close to the house and space was very tight in the backyard.

I had 5 quotes done. While some quoted 2x more than what Steve Charged me, to others fishing for lowest quotes that I've received and some saying certain things can't be done this way or that etc. Steve came, looked at the tree and situation for 30 seconds and quickly came up with a plan. He also shares his knowledge on the surrounding trees if they will become a problem in the near future or not as well. Overall displays his knowledge above anyone else I met up with for quotes.

Arrived on time the next morning, climbed it, cut, roped down branches, cleaned up and was off my property in under 3 hours. Fast and Courteous and reasonably priced. What more can you ask for?

I understood why some quotes were so high afterwards because the less experienced would have taken twice the amount of time to complete the job...

This company had so many great reviews online, we had to call them. We weren't disappointed! Steve is a terrific person and we would highly recommend him and his work.

We called because our tree shaded 3/4 of our backyard all of the summer and in the fall i would fill 7 bags of leaves and also my neighbor. Mcdonald came in and removed the tree and i couldn't find any debris left over except some sawdust.
My backyard now is sunny and looks huge.
