Buyer Beware

Stone on the Go in Hamilton - buyer beware!

Recently had a counter purchased and installed from Stone on the Go. The pricing was very reasonable and the owner came highly recommended by our contractor.

The counter we received was not at all the counter top that was promised.

It came damaged with an obvious chip missing from the corner. It was installed crooked, and we were informed by the installer that it had not been cut properly at the factory. They cut into two of our walls to try to accommodate this and failed. They damaged our newly installed cabinets and also damaged one of the handles to our cabinets. They left a mess with wet glue, cardboard, styrofoam, and wood debris in our drawers and cabinets. Last but not least, they left a large gap between the counter at the end and the wall.

We notified the owner, Heather, who was seemingly unsympathetic to our situation. She tried to offer us $100 off the final price, which we found a bit insulting. She then advised the installers would be back the following Monday to fix their mistakes.

The installers fixed their mistakes by bumping their hip against our cabinets to try to shimmy the counter top back against the wall. They were unable to fix the crooked install of the counter tops, unfortunately. They are entirely uneven and off on each side between 1/4 to 1/2 or more.

We advised Heather her we were still unhappy with the fix they offered and she remained unsympathetic and advised that the issues with the install were to be expected as industry standard. She refused to take accountability for the poor installation and did not even apologize to us.

She did offer to pay for the damage to the handle on one of our cupboards, so she did that much. She also increased her refund to $200, and we settled on $300.

The counter itself is beautiful, but were really disappointed with our customer service experience with the owner. Unfortunately, the mistakes are something we just have to live with at this point. I do not recommend this place for any counter tops, and strongly suggest going with Stone X!

Cheaper does not always mean better lesson learned.

Vicostone Kitchen Quartz Countertop

Please everyone boycott Stone on the Go and Vicostone. Ive had the worst experience with them from start to finish with our quartz countertop. Installed in December and already has a huge crack. My daughter pulled up with her hands in the corner over the lazy Suzanne to see what was on top of the counter (did not get on top). I reached out to both companies and neither will take accountability since they claim the fault is pressure. Even after the Vicostone rep came out and stated several issues with how it was fabricated and installed (no seam in the corner, big gap under requiring support and issues with the overhang lip). They are offering 50% off the cost of replacement quartz and install. So now Id have to pay for half the cost of a new slab of quartz and risk damage to my completed kitchen and backsplash all because my child was curious. I could apply more pressure by leaning on the counter than she did pulling up. Families deserve better, companies need to be accountable for poor products and installation.

Company Response

Hi Lauren
As we have already discussed with you a number of times we were willing to come out and do a no charge repair on the crack. And also offered you a remake at our cost plus 50% discount on the material. At no time did the Vicostone rep state that the issues were a fabrication or installation issue. (And we have that writing) The issue was causes by excessive weight from your child climbing on it. Vicostone is a very reputable company and their offer and ours for resolution has been more than generous. It is sad that you have used this forum to damage our business name as we have gone out of our way assist you with this matter.

Bathroom renovation

Stone on the Go was subcontracted to fabricate and install stone slab walls in a recent bathroom renovation in our home.

Their installers were ignorant and disrespectful of us and our property.

Their workmanship was inexcusably poor leaving a filthy work area and significant damage caused to the surrounding area and the bottom edge of the largest of the stone slabs. The toiletries nook had already been refabricated as it initially did not fit into the opening at all. So, when after the slabs were up, leaving the piping showing behind the tap spout and a 3/4 gap between the back wall and the floor, we challenged the accuracy of their fabrication as well.

Heather, from Stone on the Go, refused to address any of our concerns, telling us, stone cant be cut on a curve. This is absurd, of course, when the exact same stone in our kitchen is cut with some lovely curves! The only compensation Heather would offer was a monetary discount that was nothing less than offensive. There was not even an apology offered for the rudeness and disrespect of her installation team.

Company Response

I think your review reflects your lack of knowledge of the construction process and stone fabrication. I would hardly consider a $500 discount for something that was installed properly to be insulting. We returned to your job site on numerous occasions to address your concerns at which time you would not let us make any adjustments or accept any resolution. I highly doubt our team was ever "rude or disrespectful" to anyone. I have heard this is more of an issue with making payments on time to your contractor on your end then an actual issue.

Not a fan

This company has poor follow-up service. Spent about $2k on a small kitchen counter about 8 months ago. Nothing great, but ok until I noticed a small chip in the counter around the sink. Was quoted $280.00 to fix, what a joke! Don't expect any customer loyalty and/or service from this company.

Hi Andre
We do not cover chips. These are caused by misuse of your product. I'm not sure why you would expect the guys to work for free?

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!

If I could give them 0 stars, I would.

They state they level the cabinets to get them "as close as possible" by using shims during installation and laser leveling. They state they will tell you of discrepancies with walls and levelness of cabinets before install so they can be corrected. We were told nothing. Only asked where we want the seam.

It is all a farce. They simple come in and glue the countertop on top of the cabinets. No shimming or checking to see if it's "as level as possible". They didn't even bring a level when installing. They installed my countertops in less than an hour.

The bubble is on the one end of the level and it's "within tolerance". However, over a length that spans more than 4', that's a 1/4" discrepancy across the length.

The grout lines slope downward (see photo with blue arrow). There is a gap between the drawers (drawers are level) and countertop on one side of my cabinets.

Spilled water runs off the counter and onto the floor. Countertops were installed high at the back and low at the front.

If I knew this would happen, I would have kept my old kitchen that did all these things for me already.

I should have listened to my gut feeling related to the negative reviews and went with an alternate company.

Email from Heather:

Yes we use a laser to check to see if walls are straight and cabinets are level. He can point out any areas that need adjusted before the installation. Our installers can shim and adjust to a certain extent but cannot correct really unlevel cabinets. Same goes for the walls. But using the laser is the most accurate way of getting as close as possible.

Company Response

Hi Aileen
Glad you left a review of this nature. It gives us a chance to set out clear expectations for anyone who plans to work with us and what they can expect.
-We do not install or level cabinets.
-We do not install backsplash tile.
-We do not do full renovation or install walls.
Any of the above we have no control over. What we do is have a certified technician laser measure your space. We have professional installers with 15+ years experience working with stone. We can shim your countertops to a certain extent but anything more than 1/8" needs to corrected prior to installation. From the pictures you posted it looks like your countertop is within normal tolerance. I would assume whoever installed your backsplash tile agreed with that before they went ahead with tile instead of contacting us. Should any issue arise after installation normal procedure would be to email us as at stoneonthego@gmail.com
If you would like to discuss further please feel free to reach out at the above email address.

Product and responsiveness

Quartz counter top installed less than 1 year ago. Had to call within a couple of months as small chips found around the sink cut out. They responded and repaired. 6 months later more chips around same area. One year warranty on product but they want hundreds now to respond. I should have gone to another company.
I would not recommend quartz nor Stone On The Go to friends.

Company Response

We will respond again the same way have to your emails and all other posts. This is not a warranty issue. We are not responsible for damages caused. We offered a free repair. When you declined we offered a discounted replacement. Instead you have decided (as threatened) that attempting to ruin our reputation is a better route to take. We offer the highest level of customer service and fully repair or replace on any jobs that are a result of faulty installation or product quality. Your job is not.
