New Furnace and AC Unit (Ambitech & Team are AMAZING)
I need to start off by stating Ambitech Home Comfort & their guys are amazing & I do not often write glowing reviews about the companies vs. people who work for them, unless it's well earned & so obviously worth sharing with others to read or hear about & experience for themselves! -
If you wish to know why I took the time to thoughtfully compose this review, please read through its entirety & draw your own conclusions as to what clearly sets Ambitech (Jay & Erik) apart from their competition as well as why I will continue to recommend their services in the future:
No secret our spring & summer of 2019 had been much cooler from the start but when the heat/humidity did begin rise, we quickly realized our AC was no longer cooling... Called my HVAC Service/Warranty company, (name rhymes with 'Appliance Home' lol) whom I'd been signed up with for 15+yrs, to diagnose our issues & was told my AC had lost all of its coolant since the winter & wasn't covered under my service warranty guidelines - Nice!!! - All those years of monthly payments & believing I was covered for service & repairs under 'Appliance Home', I was suddenly in a situation where needed to get AC replacement quotes ASAP, ahead of a major heatwave. - Naturally, I asked ‘Appliance Home’ for a quote first. Their salesperson was very pleasant, but pricing was extremely inflated for the estimated equipment & did not demonstrate great deal of reliability-based reviews, from what I'd researched online - Next, I went on Homestars.com to begin my search for at least 3 more estimates (so 4 x written quotes in all) - Each of the companies who came to see my existing equipment, including 'Appliance', commented on our furnace and how it's 'installation was quite unique'. Specifically, inefficient in its configuration, yet no one from 'Appliance Home' had ever mentioned this to me before & they had been called to service my furnace previously at least 3-4 times over the last 10yrs. - Basically, the furnace was overworking & starving for air, which probably explains why my AC never shut off in previous years, once temps got up into 30+C because it couldn't move the colder/heavier air throughout the house, as it should have!
Therefore, all 4 x quotes I received, included AC/Furnace as well as the AC unit alone... My concern was obviously not wanting to add a brand-new AC unit & have it under-perform due to my current & inefficient 14yr old furnace setup. Nonetheless, I became somewhat of an Armchair HVAC expert over those last few days, through researching all the equipment & specs for what I was quoted on. - I even went as far as looking up my existing equipment, only to learn that my current "Trane" Furnace & failed AC unit combo, were historically lemons according to every review I’d read on them via Google.
Now that you have the context of what transpired ahead of making our decision, I will further explain why Ambitech ultimately ended up becoming our supplier and contractor of choice...
Not only were Ambitech's quotes competitive, it was their sales rep, Jason who sealed the deal. - His friendly personality & ability to explain things clearly, without being pushy in the least. Jason; aka Jay, took the time to further elaborate on my existing furnace configuration's limitations & explained exactly what the consequences could be due to poor airflow, including premature breakdown of furnace & AC components. (3-4 service calls for furnace in 10yrs & poor cooling performance) - Jay put together a quote for a furnace replacement that included a customized airflow design that would maximize the performance of the replacement AC & Furnace units. This new design concept was meant to capture a greater volume of air & thus better feed the household venting for increased efficiency as well as reduced wear on the equipment, not to mention lower energy costs!
Now that my mind was set on Ambitech seemingly becoming our contractor of choice, let me add that this important point. – Jay originally came to see my system & quote me the morning of July 17th & we were forecasted for record highs & humidity values for the upcoming weekend of July 19th. – I needed to act ASAP, as my wife was about to leave over her frustration of how long it was taking for me to make a decision fixing our AC & because I had other quotes that were within $1,000+ of Jay’s, I put him on the spot. - After some research, I called Jay back later the same day, I told Jay he would get my business for both the AC and Furnace, including the custom venting but 100% needed the AC installation to take place before the coming weekend… A very tall order considering every HVAC tech in the GTA was booked solid for over a week or more. – That being said, my lovely wife said she’d go with whoever could get here quickest, regardless of price or she would get a hotel room until I figured it out. – Ouch! (the heat was obviously affecting her normally conservative demeanor)
Jay said he’d look into & call me back within the hour. – As promised, he called me back 20min later to say ‘YES’ & that he was able to rearrange the schedule of one of Ambitech’s top technicians, Erik (an HVAC journeyman & expert metalworker), adding he (Jay himself) would also assist with our install n order to facilitate my request (Jay’s a former HVAC technician as well)
Jay returned to my house later that evening & we signed all the paperwork, with a deposit issued. – Unbelievably, the AC/Furnace were installed the following day, July 18th (less than 24hrs later) & all custom metalwork/venting was completed the following Monday, July 22nd. (see pictures of before/after)
Our new system included a ‘Smart Thermostat’, which complimented our equipment upgrade & we could not be happier with the results so far… Even over the weekend of July 19th & heatwave that came with it, our AC unit was not overworking, much quieter than the previous unit we had, with full air circulation throughout the house & shutoff intermittently based on our thermostat settings. – This is new for us, after living in our house the last 10yrs & an old AC system that ran non-stop most summers.
Jason & Erik went above & beyond to make this installation as clean & aesthetically appealing inside & out. – They ensured no mess was left behind & conscientious of not soiling our carpets/floors by laying mats, etc. - My wife could not say enough good things about these guys regarding how friendly, polite & funny they were to speak with in my absence. (she hates dealing with service technicians in general)
Jay explained my warranty, maintenance needs, as well as everything that was customized &corrected for my install. – He even pointed out how I should contact our water heater rental company because it has a seized relief valve which is a potential safety hazard. Jay further advised me on which type of heater to replace it with. (the same vs. a direct vent) – However, the cherry of top of all of this, was Jay’s recommendation to immediately cancel my ‘Appliance Home’ service warranty contract because my new warranty is with Ambitech & the equipment manufacturer now & all included in the purchase. – This alone saves us the $30+ a month we were paying out, for something that ended up being virtually worthless anyway, with zero loyalty offered towards a 15+yr Subscriber/VIP Client! (some suggest this company has grown too big to care anymore)
Once again, Jay & Erik were AMAZING to deal with & I will always recommend Ambitech Home Comfort to my friends, family, co-workers, or anyone asking about AC/Furnace service or replacement needs. –
I have worked in the automotive service industry (where reputation is also very important) for over 30+yrs & know from experience this company and their team are doing it right!!! 10/10
Thanks Jason & Erik, for all your help – We are grateful for your professional insights & exceeding our expectations & purchase experience in every way. – Cheers!
