Avoid for larger jobs that are time sensitive

Would not recommend for a larger job. Contracted Eric and his team for a larger job (~20K) last year to install parking pad at the pack, redo pathway at the front back and side of the house and landscaping work. Was advised the job should be completed in 1 month. Took over 6 months to complete! And concrete estimate went up 4x the original quote. This delayed other part of the renovation and caused major headaches. Concrete subcontractor insisted to be paid in cash and refused to put anything in writing. Would say they would come on certain days and would go weeks without hearing from the concrete guy. Constant struggle with scheduling and timing.

3-4 months after work was finally done the concrete parking pad started crumbling (and has only gotten worse) and multiple quality issues were noticed with pathway. Contacted Eric to advise of the issues. Has been 7 months of back and forth, they are asking me to pay an additional $1,500 for work they never completed before addressing deficiencies.

They might be good for smaller jobs but do yourself a favour and hire a more reputable company that will stand behind their work for larger jobs.

Company Response

This is not a review - it’s a shakedown. We avoid subcontracting as much as possible, We had to here - when there was more work required I suggested the work outside our scope be direct with the client which everyone agreed to. When I invoiced for work completed the client said he had paid sub contractor directly. Sub contractor said he did not.
I trusted the client and adjusted invoice taking the $1,500 in question off with a note that it was to be resolved. Sub contractor was calling client to get it resolved, client was saying he hadn’t heard from him. When client said there was a problem with the work we went right away and confirmed it would be fixed at no extra charge when it was warm enough - in the meantime “please resolve the missing money”. No progress over winter - I had to ask my sub to show me his phone to prove he had called client - He had. That’s when I learned “haven’t heard from him” meant he didn’t want to talk and was ignoring the voice mails. I then said I’d facilitate a meeting at site to go over any and all concerns once sub contractor recovered from his heart attack. Client said he wanted a full refund for the parking pad or he would post negative reviews and complain at BBB. I did not cave and here we are. No answer to why he paid directly for work contracted through me. Other companies who have done work for this guy have pursued him in courts - I’m too busy and tired for that.

Bottom line - we’re much better at small and medium jobs
Don’t hire us if you want a parking pad
We stand by our work

Helped to Spruce Up my house in East York

I recently heard about Spruced Up from my neighbours, and met with Eric to discuss some ideas for a house in the East York area. He came to the property and listened to the ideas of what I wanted to do with my property and get it ready for sale. Our semi-detached was in really bad shape, so we were just making mainly cosmetic changes to improve the value of our property. He came back a few days later with several ideas and a written quote of how to landscape the front and backyard. Some of the items were outside of our budget, but his ideas were amazing. The before and after photos of some of his completed jobs looked great. He even brought several sizes of rail ties to see what it would look like for our front lawn.

Some of the items that he completed for us.
Install 12 foot chainlink fence $1,700
Scrap, sand and paint porch $1,500
Pressure washing of exterior $600
Reinforced handrail, changed downspout and changed light fixture.

Cons
Pace of work was a bit slow, took about 3 weeks to get all of the work done. In comparison, Wow1Day painted the entire first floor in 1 day. Keep in mind this was in early April and there was still snow on the ground. So the ground needed to thaw before work could be started.

Protip - If it's a vacant property, consider using a lockbox. He needs access to things like water, electricity and washrooms and I didn't want to be at the property all day.

Would definitely work with him again in the future.
