Laundry Room Tiling Project

Our experience has been very similar to the customer below with the Bathroom Tile Renovation Project; unfortunately we did not see this review before we hired John/Alpha & Omega for our Laundry Room Tile Project.

John was absolutely unreliable, had no respect for our time and DID NOT complete the job.

Here was our experience.
- We found John’s ad on Kijiji and scheduled a time for him to come by the property to provide a quote for 2 separate projects.
- Right off the start, he was not able to meet at the agreed time and day for “traffic” reasons (should have been a tell tale at this point); however once we did meet him, seemed like a nice guy and rates were good so we decided to go with him for the Laundry Room Tiling Project.
- No contract was signed, we agreed to a price (to be paid in cash) and timeline of 2 days for work completion over text message.
- Job was to start on Sept 21 at 8am, John texted me at 10:30am that day to let me know that he “got an emergency at one of his other projects and have to stay there to finish, and will come tomorrow morning to start and finish everything”.
- After various delays, he finally starts the job, and came at random times over the course of the next few days, to eventually “finish” the job on Sept 26.
- When he was “done”, he showed me the floors, however I couldn’t go into the laundry room to inspect the work as the grout was still wet and I couldn’t step on the floors. He had also left a few extra tiles and a bucket of water on 2 separate spots “to put some weight on the tiles to help them settle and stay in place”.
- A few hours after he left, I removed the extra tiles and bucket to clean/wipe the floors with water as he instructed.
- Upon doing this, I notice a number of things that was wrong with our floor:
o There were 2 tiles that were completely cracked
o 1 tile with no grout at all
o When I stepped on the floor, another tile cracked (there is clearly an issue with the subflooring that John put in)
o The tiles are not lined up at all
o Spaces between tiles are uneven
o An extra tile hanging off the side (should have been cut off)
- I contacted John immediately to advise him of the situation and he said “I will be there tomorrow to fix it tomorrow”
- It’s now been over 2 weeks, and John has not come back to fix the issues and complete the job; he continues to provide a date and time “I will be there tomorrow at noon” and then not show up and provide a number of different excuses:
o “I have to find the same tile”
o “I got a cold yesterday, I will come tomorrow evening”
o “I just got up, was in a coma from the cold, will come tomorrow”
o “Sorry, I have another really bad cold, will come for sure tomorrow”
o “I’m trying to call my worker to have him go there because I am at the hospital”
o “I can’t come today I’m going for a small operation right now, call my office and they will send one guy right away” (no one ever answers this so-called office line and it’s just a voicemail service)
o “I’m still at the doctors waiting, my hand is not good”
o “I’m busy with my wife today, I promise, I promise I will be there this evening”
o “I can’t come anymore, family emergency, my wife labour pains came” (apparently his wife is pregnant)
o “I’m going to the hospital my wife water broken and probably the baby is coming, I’ll call one of my guys to come to you”

We’ve also tried to give John one last chance to resolve this issue with us before we wrote this honest but negative review, and his response was that he didn’t care too much to resolve or about the review.

It has been an absolutely horrendous experience with John from Alpha & Omega, now due to his poor workmanship we need to hire someone else to re-do the entire job!!!

DO NOT HIRE JOHN AND/OR ALPHA & OMEGA, save your time and money.

Patio deck

Our old deck was crumbling down and we were looking for a good contractor to revive it. We had several deck contractors come in and provide us quotes. We were very impressed with Alpha & Omega because of their commitment and honesty from the beginning. The crew had very unique ideas, and were very professional and helpful. Now we have the perfect deck. They completed the job as promised and it looks great! A great company you won’t regret working with!

Bathroom Tile Renovation

DO NOT waste your time and money with this "contractor". In summary, John, the "contractor" is unreliable, does not respect your time, does not respect your property and does not complete the job as agreed to.

Story
- Found this "contractor" on Kijiji and scheduled a free quote in a couple days for 1) Bathroom Retiling and 2) Porch Sanding/Staining, no issues. Rates were good, for the quick job I was trying to have done, was willing to give it a shot, regrettably.
- No contract was drawn up, no insurance/license documents were presented at all. Work was promised to be completed within one week. (It has now been three weeks, and not completed, nor will he return to complete).
- Porch sanding/staining was done in one day as agreed, however, there were various missed spots where no stain was applied and inconsistent application of staining, but nothing I can complain about too much. Satisfactory.
- Bathroom retiling was and still is an absolute failure. It is clear from the workmanship that John has never done this before. The walls/tiles are not level, there are massive gaps where grout/silicon was not applied properly which will lead to water damage, there is a one inch gap between some tiles which was filled in with copious amounts of silicon - maybe another tile would have been a good idea John?, faucets/levers were not properly reinstalled with screws - they were instead GLUED on. In fact, I had to specifically request he reinstall these back to their proper position after the tiling was done. When I asked why they weren't reinstalled - I was responded with "that is easy to put back on, you can do it yourself easily". If I known he would glue it back on, I would have "easily" done it myself.
- Garbage and cigarette butts were left everywhere upon job "completion". John texted me to let me know that the job was done and that payment was due. When I arrived on site, there was garbage (coffee, leftover grout, dust, cigarette butts) everywhere. I specifically had to ask him to come clean up his own mess - which he did, thankfully.
- The worst part of this experience was not the poor workmanship, nor general mess and utter disrespect for my property, but the extreme disrespect for me and my time. On 3 separate occasions I asked John to complete his job by ungluing the faucet and properly installing it. On 3 separate occasions I was told a general time he would arrive to do the work and I would wait for his arrival. On all 3 occasions, John did not show up to complete the work and he did not respond to my messages asking if he was coming. I was provided that he had caught pneumonia and was in the hospital and could not do the work. In his defense, he has offered to come by and fix this now that I have complained to him and let him know that he has wasted my time on 3 separate occasions - I have declined and cannot waste my time any longer. I have unfortunately paid him the full agreed upon amount for the job, hoping that there are decent human beings in this world, but clearly John is not one of them.
- Aside from this nightmare experience, I asked John to take out some extra garbage for me along with the construction garbage. He did this, but I had to ask him multiple times to this as he had agreed to as a favour to me. This favour, was returned by promising him $50 if he actually did what he said for once. Which he promptly did knowing that money was now on the line.

This is merely my experience, but doesn't have to be yours. Maybe he has changed his ways and maybe he no longer has pneumonia. But what won't change is this horrible bathroom tiling job that I will have to fix myself because of incompetent and disrespectful work done by John of Alpha Omega Creations.
