Max Appliance sent a technician for inspecting and repairing my dishwasher. As per policy, if their recommendation for fixing the problem is not financially feasible, you owe them a fixed $59+ tax for their attendance and inspection/diagnosis.
I had read a lot about fixing dishwashers before I called the technician in. I had opened the dishwasher parts, did the clean up myself all the way down to the food grinder. I had noticed broken screen/filter and replaced it with a new one. The dishwasher still did not work - there were issues with overheating at one point, and lack of water either due to insufficient water filling or water not being pumped through the propeller arms. I could not pinpoint the problem so I called the technician so he can confirm circulation problem, pump problem, water level, heating element etc.
Technician came in and provided no insight whatsoever. I am not satisfied with his services and not convinced by his inspection or diagnosis/lack of diagnosis. He did not open his tool box. Did not take anything apart. The only thing he did was turn on the dishwasher and run it a few times to confirm that water fills and drains. I already knew it did that and told him that when he entered the house.
My questions were:
1) does it fill to the right amount as it fills at least half an inch below the heating element. I did not get a satisfactory answer to that.
2) why do the circulation arms that are supposed to spray water and clean the dishes, not work? He did not take them out, look for jams or cleanliness, did not check if I assembled it correctly after the cleaning i myself did few weeks ago, even though I told him about it.
He instead told me that with the three partial runs he did he was of the opinion that two of the arms do work but not the Third.
That I know was incorrect. The dishes I left in the dishwasher specifically showed that despite running close to 6 full cycles with that load not a single dish in either upper or lower tray was clean including small food items stuck on the plates which were moist and greasy but not very wet. The water was not reaching everything and or if it was the pressure was next to nothing. I also had confirmed prior to him coming with 4 or 5 partial dishwasher cycles myself that the spray arms did not even move or pump any water after the fill cycle was complete.
3) I asked him to check the water inlet valve which i had read could be a problem. He did not.
4) I asked him to check whether the pump is working, he did not.
5) he could not narrow it down to any problem and chalked it up to "if it is the pump it's better to buy new, if it's motherboard, it's better to buy new."
There was no value or insight he provided me for his attendance and I am not convinced at his final recommendation of buy new when I don't know the problem. He did frankly lesser work and lesser inspecting than I myself had done. The only reason I wanted to call a professional was because of knowledge and tools so they could confirm what the problem was and what the solution was.
If I wanted an answer "could be this, could be that... just buy new, my search on google told me that much. Why did i need to waste $59 + tax to have someone come to my home and say the same without opening his tool box and making a legitimate effort to find the problem?
I informed this company that i expected them to either not cash my cheque or send me a more competent technician to do a proper job and correctly diagnose the problem which is what the money is for. All I got was a call back from I believe the same technician who was very defensive and unhappy with my opinion of the service or lack thereof that he provided.
I am extremely disappointed with this company, waste of my money, time and lack of answers.
